I had to go back and replay the video to catch that, you're absolutely right! I missed it the first time because I was watching the video at 2x speed and the melody was pitched differently than I was used to hearing because of the Mario instruments, but it's indeed from the game we used to rent when I was a kid. :)

DKC is literally the half-competent Western developer trying to make a Nintendo-quality platformer... and was the perfect example that Westeran audiences like graphics more than quality.

Don't you diss DKC like that... it's not all graphics no gameplay quality. Not only does that apply so much more to most AAA games today, in DKC's case the graphics were revolutionary for their time and the gameplay was great too!
