This was my music teacher at Philadelphia University of the Arts. I did not know he had passed. Our choir sounded as beautiful as this one did! A wonderful teacher who will be missed.

Dear Joanne, this concert was conducted by Matthew Gladnorf, who has been Choral Arts' artistic director since 2007. You must be thinking of our beloved Sean Deibler who did pass in 2009. We'll never forget him.

May these vows and this marriage be blessed. May it be sweet milk, like wine and halvah. May this marriage offer fruit and shade like the date palm. May this marriage be full of laughter, our every day a day in paradise. May this marriage be a sign of compassion, a seal of happiness here and hereafter. May this marriage have a fair face and a good name, an omen as welcomes the moon in a clear blue sky. I am out of words to describe how spirit mingles in this marriage. (oooooooo)

My high school's concert choir sang this two years ago... I adore it. It is one of my favorites by Whitacre. This group sounds very clean and full. Wonderful.

Oh I just realized they are using the music too! I have never heard anyone do such an excellent job (dynamically and expressively) without memorizing the music beforehand! That's cool! Good job!

Listening to this as part of my morning reading, it is like the pealing of clear and pure bells, and yes, a wonderful choir. It is deeply moving.

very nice. could have had more dynamic contrast in the phrases, but I can tell the group is very relaxed vocally. Good job!

I agree with mramireziowa. For one, I don't understand what they are saying so I can't follow the story that's being told. Just from the sound, it doesn't sound like a happy marriage. This just doesn't measure up to his other beautiful pieces.

I would look up the lyrics and you'll probably change your mind. "May this marriage be full of laughter, our every day a day in paradise." He arranged this for his wife on their 7th anniversary, so one would hope its about a happy marriage.

ncharisma7 Yeah, I'd definitely suggest looking up the full lyrics, it's an incredibly romantic poem. I'm partial to this piece cause my high school choir performed it : )

AineHawkins Full lyrics, written out from my memory, so I hope my punctuation is accurate: May these vows and this marriage be blessed. May it be sweet milk, like wine and halva. May this marriage offer fruit and shade like the date palm. May this marriage be full of laughter, Our every day a day in paradise. May this marriage be a sign of compassion. A seal of happiness, here and hereafter. May this marriage have a fair face and a good name, An omen as welcomes the moon in a clear blue sky. I am out of words to describe how spirit mingles in this marriage. By Rumi, one of the greatest poets in the Persian language and a Sufi mystic.

I will undoubtedly be blasted for this... But the pure homophony in this is a little bland. I love Eric's stuff and I love his harmonies, but I revel in his ability to present homophonics and this is just too "straight-forward" to me... Okay--attack me now...
