My choir teacher's wife brought in their infant daughter in a carriage and placed her tenderly on the piano. She looked stressed and worn out and the baby looked fussy. We were all hanging out and they asked us to be quiet enough to let the baby sleep. They went into the office to talk. The baby grew fussy and started to whimper. Our choir very softly sang "Sleep" to her and by the end, we noticed the teachers standing behind us, teary eyed. The baby had fallen asleep. I will remember it forever

It will surely happen one day. If you look at the progression of human civilization it has been a slow and long process of unification. We started with families, then went to tribes, and then nations, and now we're in the process of continental unification and even intercontinental. I think this will keep happening but at a quicker rate in the next few decades and into the next century.

The evening hangs beneath the moon A silver thread on darkened dune With closing eyes and resting head I know that sleep is coming soon Upon my pillow, safe in bed A thousand pictures fill my head I cannot sleep my minds a flight And yet my limbs seem made of lead If there are noises in the night A frighting shadow, flickering light Then I surrender unto sleep Where clouds of dreams give second sight What dreams may come both dark and deep Of flying wings and soaring leap As I surrender unto sleep As I surrender unto sleep

I just learned today that the original words to this song were supposed to be Robert Frost's poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening". But due to copyrights being extended by 20 years, it was not actually in public domain for Eric to use. He got shut down by the Frost Estate, and the words were replaced with the current words written by Poet Charles Anthony Silvestri. I know it's not true, but to me I like to think that happened so that the current words to this composition could be there to sing my mother to sleep. www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/first-time-20-years-copyrighted-works-enter-public-domain-180971016/?fbclid=IwAR2FmU6njCPQzsZa-QdU9dxVRUe_sQ4GA2QVZBXtoegOMtMVVy2VDzeZZfY

"After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying: “Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. That is how it sounds when Angel's sing praise to God!. I know because I have heard Angel's singing to the Lord. I was a singer with a contemporary Christian band. I sat in church one night and it was silent with everyone praying. I was thinking that I was going to stop singing because I wasn't holy enough to witness to the people. Suddenly from above me a sound started which was very much like the chiron this video. It was thousands of voices in perfect harmony. I was startled and opened my eyes and looked around to find that everyone still had their heads bowed in silent prayer except the pastor who was walking back and forth at the pulpit. The sound continued from above me and I got chills as I realized what I was hearing was the Angel's singing praise to the Lord. Then the sound faded out and I recieved a message from the Lord Jesus, "I made you worthy to sing for me when I died on the cross and you excepted me as your saviour, sing unto me as my Angel's do." At that moment I truely knew that He loves us ALL and is real. I haven't heard a choir come close to that sound until now. Thank you Eric Whitacre and the Virtual Choir.

I had the privilege of learning this song with my high school group. A merger of two schools created a school 2500 kids strong so as you can imagine, our choir was quite strong. I will remember the feeling of singing this forever. When the b6/11 at 3:42 resonated out, I legit thought my life was ending. This song reminds me of everything leading up to my current state of life and makes me hope to experience music in ways like this for the rest of my life. I never want to forget how impactful this was.

I just discovered Eric Whitacre last week while listening to Morten Lauridsen. I am beyond words after listening to this. He is incredibly gifted at capturing emotion through voice and lyrics. I was so moved to tears the first time I listened to this that I searched for more of his work. His projects with virtual choirs are not only amazing technically, but more so for bringing thousands of voices together from around the world in peace and harmony...literally. His talents are part of our national heritage and a gift to anyone who listens.

Our All State Choir in Colorado sang this in 2004. Oh my word! We had so much fun with it. One of my FAVORITE songs we did that year.

I listened to this for the first time in sophomore or junior year of high school because my select choir group was having problems focusing that day. My teacher put this song on and had us all sit with our eyes closed. Then he brought out the sheet music and had us start learning it. We were instantly more calm and focused. I was in love with this song. I listened to it all the time. I'm now a sophomore in college, and I hadn't listened to it in a while. Someone on Facebook was doing a 24 styles of Shape of You. As soon as Eric Whitacre popped up I came here to listen again to this song. It calms my soul.

I feel here some influence of Maurice Durufle, particularly from his Tantum Ergo.

I was just thinking I want to be able to listen to this during my final moments.... Kinda sad to be associating such a beautiful song with death though, LOL

haolihfaioefh Especially the last few bars are reminicient of death, the sheet music that we used said "decrescendo poco a poco al niente" which means to get quieter little by little until nothing.

To those who dislike or complain, Eric and all the editors have done such a miraculous job putting all this together and making this fantastic piece of art. I don't think anyone should complain or "nitpick" about details that really have no significance in the long run. Same goes to those involved in VC 3 and Future VC 4.

He is just amazing. My band teacher was talking about adagio and andante, so he showed the band this. He said that he did not like choir until one of his friend told him that a choir was going to Mexico at the end of the year, and the choir had some good looking girls. So he joined the choir and became passionate about singing ever since.
