As for the nova. You've got a few irons in the fire now with Kenny powers, Tommy and Allison, the Malibu, etc. So it's up to you if you want to stick another iron in the fire with the nova or not. You know what a commitment it will be to get the car where you want it, and with it sitting so long, you may never get it there. But... then again, if you never do anything with it, then you know you'll never get anywhere with it. You've got to take the first step on it, and the rest will fall in line if it's meant to be.

I say take it ti ya podnah that did the seat fir Miss Vicki.. Let him restore it to whatever degree you would like. That way at the least, it will be like ya dads 55, and be drivable. Even if it is to a cruise in or to go chase the kiddos at the test spot. The car is in great condition and we know how hard it is to NOT want to cut it up, but sittin... THATS THE WORST of all. Just an idea

@@theoldmansgarage I say try to find another Nova similar to the Big Block Nova he is building now and buy it as a roller and build a big cubic inch SBC like a 434cid and put a set of MBE billet symmetrical port 18* heads with shaft rockers and their matching billet intake on it and start with a Dart aluminum block with billet main caps and CP/Carrillo aluminum rods and pistons and an ISKY solid roller camshaft with a Jesel belt drive and for the crankshaft get a Bryant or Scat billet crankshaft and put a F1X or F2 crank driven Procharger on it so you don't have to worry about a bump box and all that and for the car get one with a 4link rear suspension and a strut front suspension with a Strange stiletto style rack and pinion steering rack and TBM brakes and atleast mini tub it so you can fit a 10.5W and a 29x12.5 if you decide to get into a class that you can run a tire that big and put Optic Armor lexan windows in the car as well

Absolutely take the time to spend with your dad. I'm 45, and I lost my dad when I was 43, he was 77. He lived in a different state, so I didn't get to see him nearly as much as I should have, and didn't talk to him nearly enough either, and now he's gone, forever. At our age, and at your dad's age, you're blessed that he's still here, and you need to take advantage, because he's not going to be here forever. If you have the time, you should spend it with your dad, you'll both be better for it.

I just left my career and moved back "home" to spend whatever time I have left with my grandmother. I buried both my parents, a brother and grandfather. All with that regret afterwards of not spending more time together while I had the chance. Now all we have is each other. So it was time for me to look in the mirror and decide what my real priorities are.... so I moved home to spend EvERYDAY with my grandmother. I can work all day everyday and make more money later. For now... family time ONLY

Bill, I'm 73 and for the last 15 years have been in Africa as a missionary, which can be physically, emotionally, and even spiritually taxing. You are still a young man and you are coming up on some of your best years, especially if God blesses you with grandchildren. My advice is to guard your time for those that mean the most for you. A friend told me years ago that you can be happy as long as you are working your job, business, or hobby for that matter, but when your job, business or hobby starts working you, then you lose what brings you joy. That's when health issues have a way of slowing you down and even putting you under. Racing has been the glue that has given you a little glue to bond you and your boys. Be careful that you don't "work" yourself out of those relationships. Doing what we love doing adds joy to our lives as long as it doesn't own us. That thing that we love doing can enslave us and then all joy is lost. I pray for your family. I had to give up on car projects and moooved on to people projects and at 73 feel like I'm in the adventure of my life. If I have back pain I'm in a position that I can lay down for an hour and feel great. I'm not a slave to activity of any kind. Loving life as never before. My prayer has always been, "Lord, let me die with my boots on." Here in Ghana I don't have tv but I love all three channels of your family and that is my primary entertainment. Bless you.

Thank you brother Jim for sharing with Bill. I know there is a lot of excitement for Bill to run the Nova but getting chained to that level of racing program as we age becomes more work than fun. I'm 64 now, and like you am responding to a Higher call. My back and hip are worse than most folks but I still like to tinker, which is what Bill has been doing and his channel and the views have responded. Between content like Vicki's truck project, mark at A1, the AMX, and what he has been teaching new young racers with the Mally, it even has encouraged old racers like me that you can have a little fun with your daily ride. I hope he will keep pushing promoters. The stress in the last two years and what we were listening too almost made me leave.....but, Bill has come to a better place in recent months and I would hate to see a new stress avenue bring that back and he loose time with precious family. We'll I'm done now. Ya'll come back to SC this winter and remember, don't put anything higher than worshipping the Lord.

I am glad that Bill was honest about his diet in this video, I look at all that young man fast food crap he eats and think, "that doesn't help out". As for his pursuing the Nova, I too know that after earning income in physical labor, we all can feel beat up, and watching time go by, we wonder whether it's best to be around family or be around our hobby. all I can advise for those reading is, access your goals. trying to be that guy everyone hates to see coming thru the gate takes a ton of investment. Luckily working on a Chevy, there's no need to re--invent the wheel--see what works for other people, get the recipe and build that. Then focus on having your #$@ together in the pits (none of this, "the kids ran off with the....") and being an assassin at the 'light, and you're nearly there...with some "Extra" time to spare to enjoy being there with everyone else. Of course, drag racing lost that in the 1960's but that's a story for another time. Build an engine once, build it right, spend time with Dad and don't worry about being the best, worry about being there.

Bill I’m 53 and I was bracket racing back in the 90’s also. Kinda like you, life got in the way of my dreams and I supported my kids in their dreams. I would love to build a small tire no prep car also. But I know what that would take. I now have the money, but I don’t think I have the health and energy a lot like yourself. But because of you I’m building another Bracket car. If I can make my 82 G-body run in the low 11’s I will be happy. I want it to be fun and not seem like work. So far I’m really enjoying getting the car ready. Hope to have the engine together and race at Edgewater by June.. Thanks for giving this old man the inspiration…

I'm older then you and it because of channels like you and your boys that I jumped back into the game. I raced back in the mid 90s and only now getting back into it with a full build. Your never to old to start. Don't compare yourself to a younger man. Build it and go and enjoy it win lose or draw. You beable to say I'm glad I did at least try. As for financial. Rome wasn't built in a day. Get the nova in and go threw it and just pic at it. I say you have alot of the main items to start putting a car togeather. There are alot older guys out there then you still doing all this. Don't be so hard on yourself. Love the Malibu build and cool to see its progress weather it be backwards or forwards. Lol. Enjoying your videos since the start..

It's a wise man who knows what he can and can't do and picks his battles, you bring up some very honest points Sir. We ALL want to see that Nova moving under it's own power again, and it would be great to see you begin a build with bringing it back to life but don't get too carried away. Sort out the suspension and the brakes, the steering, the safety, all the OTHER parts about the world of racecar stuff before worrying about the $20,000 you'll have to put under the hood. Little bites Sir, little bites. You've got nearly 100,000 people behind you applauding what you've done and the direction you are going don't think for a second that you will have to be doing all this alone. Glad you all had a great weekend at KD, we LOVE seeing that smile on Miss Vicki's face as she enjoys her new truck. One of the best BAD Decisions you've made in life!

If you want a turbo small in your Nova go for it if you can come up with the funds. Those boys are strong. You don't always have to be the rock lean on them. With your family/team anything is possible. Just need to suck it up and lean on them for a change..

Hey, you're not alone with those thoughts. I have a 1967 Shelby GT 500 IMSA, SCCA, Trans Am car, 427 Tunnel Port Holman Moody motor, Dan Williams 4 spd., tires on it older than your boys, out back, I used to campaign myself, my own pocket, back in the day. It's an addiction. I had a gas station then and it was common to see me at 3AM working on the car, sometimes by myself for some races on the next day, transporting the car myself. I was a poor man's racer, wrenched it all myself. I know now I was crazy, lol. But, I've gotta tell you, those days were some of the most fun I have ever had, winning or losing, it didn't matter, it was the journey. Whether you're restoring a truck or fixing the Nova or some other classic, I feel your channel , your friends and homestead are going to do just fine.

Bill the financial side alone is enough to make us 40 and up crowd say no way. I'm to the point where I'm ready to just settle in and be happy having a 9 sec (1/4 mile) street car. Yesterday was beautiful out and I worked 11p-11a. I went and Visited my Dad after work to see what he was up to. When I got there he had his Nova out in the driveway. 575hp 406, Th350 full blown street car doesn't even have traction bars. I took it for a ride and life got better and it made me rethink why my Nova has been sitting for years as I try to save up to go fast .Dads car isnt a rocket ship by no means , the 3.42 gear and 2800 stall keep it in check but dang is it fun! Turns 11.50's @ 117 through full exhaust. I'm starting to think I've wasted a lot of time on my Nova. Continue to enjoy the Malibu it's a bad ass street car!

I'd say, If you really want to go race the nova. You may not realize yet you have another crew again besides your boys. Your got Kenny and (bare with me) your brother. Maybe they'd love to chip in more, spend more time at the shop helping work the nova while helping catch more content. Plus more race and test hits, we all love seeing those even if it's the 64. You know Vicky is down to take her truck more places too. The Malibu is pretty close to being a constant bracket car once the tuning is fingered out. You've got alot of people around and even love to see you back in that.

You absolutely can do it, slowly build the nova, upgrade the front brakes, and piece it all together! Got faith in you, the videos of the nova I think would fire this channel up! (Even though it’s already on fire) that malibu is too clean, absolutely love it. Miss my car like that.

I get where your coming from Bill. I use to love putting the time in snowmobile racing ,but now I could take it or leave it. Don’t get me wrong I love doing it but it takes up a lot of time , especially when working a full time job, trying to spend time with family and racing! Run the Malibu when you want have fun and keep doing what you doing ! God bless.

Good morning Bill you know it is right up my alley when I hear you leading by example when you're talking about making more time to spend with your father, I knew it would happen I just didn't know when now all we got to do is sit back and see how big a fire was lit like you said will see what happens that's why this is my favorite content it keeps people enthused 👍🏿

Your Dad's tractor reminds me of my grand dad's tractor. I'm not sure which project I like more. The Malibu or Ms Vicky's 64 both are just so sharp and cool

Bill I'm 41 and lost my dad my hero! In 2015 ever since a hole in my heart last December we lost my mother 😭😥 my point at my age losing my parents so early in life I wish I could go back and do more things 😔 with both my parents! Luckily the good lord blessed me with 2 absolutely amazing incredible parents that got me into cars! Love your channel take the time now you won't regret it!

Remember everyone has to start somewhere, you already have a good block at uncle bobs, you have turbos, you have carbs what it takes is putting it all together. I love all the channels and I love how you teach, you have videos of starting blank and just getting going but the Malibu will never be an all out race car so start building the nova to teach the people who already have went as far as they can with a street car and who are starting to go all out race car. As for age and energy if its something you love doing age don't mean a thing and the love of it will give you the energy. I'm 43 I was a drag racer all my life and at 29 I lost all vision in my right eye and part out of my left, I truly thought I would never race again but you and your family made me realize nothing can stop you but you. So here I am at 43 partially disabled building another race car. Its a 1990 Ford ranger backhalf truck with funny car cage, a home built 540ci bbc and a forced induction 120mm turbo. And that is thanks to you and your family.

I think everyone would like to see you do whatever makes you happy. I think if you decide to go head that direction with the nova you have the kids and friends that would be right there to jump in and help and support you as well as all of us watching. The reason i enjoy all of your channels so much is the fact that you and your kids seem like genuine good people. Not leaving out Kenny, Harley and big rob, Jeremy all of you just seem like a great big family. Keep up the good content. Really enjoy the videos.

Still alive and survived cancer three times. Moving forward to build my 98 Mustang GT into a big block Ford street/strip car. Spending time with your Dad on the farm, I envy you Bill, my Dad passed in 95'. He loved his old John Deere he had when I was a boy, a forties model "A".

It was nice getting to talk to ya for a few minutes down at kd Bill! I couldn't help but smile seeing you and Vicki walking down pit lane holding hands. You've done a tremendous job on both the Malibu and the truck. Hope to see more of that on the channel like we talked about!! Caleb

I completely understand Bill. I'll be 35 in June and I used to be all about the street racing in my early 20s (and younger). I've wanted to get back into it heavily but with turning wrenches full time ,side jobs, had to get somethings taken care of with my health (mainly dental wise), getting some renovations done on my house that was a big surprise, starting/trying to build a YT channel, trying to build another race car, inflation prices, and trying to do all the above by yourself is very discouraging. But all we can do is try. Keep up the good work and rember we are all only here for a little while so try to do what makes you hsppy.

The people that haven't raced don't realize just how addictive and how much money it takes to be competitive . It's great to just go have fun but as a racer you are always looking how to go faster or to have a edge . Good luck to you Watching the video it's not hard to tell that the edge and the competitive side of you is still very much there !!! Thanks for all the videos !!

Dont let it stress you out Bill, You can be thankful working your ass off doing these videos is enough to support your family, that alone is a true blessing! Like anything else if you get too deep into it it becomes work and nobody likes that shit!

Bill. I hear you man. I'm 53 and feel exactly like you just described. I'm contemplating starting my own cylinder head business and I know what kind of commitment that will be. I am shaking my head at do I really want to subject myself to the stress. But everyone tells me that I should, one more time. The struggle is real. You do whats comfortable for you. I am certain it feels good not to have to dig ditches anymore. Love watching all the channels.
