In my opinion as a mexican myself, I don't see how this is a fusion of both filipino and mexican traditions. I see many comments from filipino ppl saying how there was no actual filipino representation in this and as a mexican this wasn't very accurate to even a real traditional catholic mexican wedding either. As I see it, it is more of a white or americanized version of what a filipino/mexican "traditional" wedding would look like

1.) I don't understand how this is a blend of both cultures because all I saw represented from the Philippines was the male traditional clothing. 2.) This was very much a "lawyer" type of wending (I can't explain it but if you get it, you get it). 3.) The venue is absolutely beautiful and I wish them nothing but the love and happiness.

I agree. The title is misleading as the wedding influences seem more skewed towards Mexican traditions. Not an offense, but an observation. I was thinking the same thing about the barong being the only representation of Filipino culture, aside from the Filipinos at the wedding.

LagiNaLangAko23, the infinity symbol was first recorded in history by being used by Early Greeks 'the earliest attestable accounts of mathematical infinity come from Zeno of Elea (born c. 490 BCE), a pre-Socratic Greek philosopher of southern Italy'. It was then used by the Early Indians in 'The Jain mathematical text Surya Prajnapti (c. 4th-3rd century BCE) classifies all numbers into three sets: enumerable, innumerable, and infinite'. After that 'European mathematicians started using infinite numbers and expressions in a systematic fashion in the 17th century'. So the symbol itself has been used by many cultures thought the ages, but the lasso used in this video comes from Christian Catholic wedding ceremonies. It is a representation of a loop of rosary beads which is looped around the bride and groom forming the shape of the number 8. 'This cord symbolizes lifetime unity or the everlasting union of the bride and groom when they officially become husband and wife, as well as a symbol of marital protection; while the loops formed signifies their love for one another. After the wedding, this marital twine is typically kept by the bride as a wedding souvenir. Use of the traditional wedding cord for weddings is common in Hispanic countries such as Mexico, the Philippines, and Spain.' So the tradition comes from Spain and both Mexico and the Philippines are former colonies of Spain so they both practise this tradition. What I was saying is that that part of the infinity sigh while it is part of Filipino culture it is also Mexican so in itself it represents both of them and not just the groom. The wedding itself is still very much a Mexican inspired wedding (inspired because like the original commenter said its quite a 'lawyer' wedding) Most of the traditions were either Mexican or from both cultures. Since the video was marketed as a combination of two cultures it would have been nice to see more of the Pilipino side.

LagiNaLangAko23, Yes the Spanish do. I couldn't find anything on indians using it. I know they use a Mangalsutra which the groom ties around the brides neck but I could't find anything of a loop on both necks... But I did find something called a varmala after looking into Hindu weddings. Its a cord tied around both bride and groom made of large rose flowers but I don't think its tied in a infinity loop if you look up on google varmala pictures it seems more like a circle enclosing them. Its possible though they also use an infinity cord but have another name for it so I can't find it.

As a folklorico dancer let me tell you that Oaxaca has beautiful wedding traditions as well as Chiapas and states from the north of Mexico, I’ve dance a few of them you should look up some videos:)

This is a really cool combination of cultures but it’s kind of weird to have it in the title as a Catholic wedding when they didn’t even do any of the religious ceremonies or traditions that are very meaningful to practicing Catholics. They are of catholic origin but don’t seem observant so it’s not really advertised the right way. It was beautiful and a great couple though

Well there are some Mexican traditions they did that are equivalent to some Filipino traditions in different islands but sadly was not credited nor said in it's Filipino terminology. I can attest to that because the Mojigangas are called Harigangas in my region while the El Lazo is also seen in some Filipino weddings.

It’s all European-influenced from Spain just like the US is from the UK. Linlin I don’t know much about Filipinos but if your going to judge Indigenous Amerindian culture as if you know anything about it don’t. There are plenty of indigenous people in Mexico. The only place you’ll see an extraordinary amount of Spanish culture is Northern Mexico next to the big cities like Mexico City and even north than that because it is next to the Border that separates the States and Mexico. I’m not going to judge Filipino culture and say they’re all Spanish and Japanese just because that’s all I know about the country.

Segun se origino con los otomi en queretaro, hay muchas tradiciones alrededor de Mexico que desconocemos. De hecho siglos atras tuvimos una relacion estrecha con Filipianas, ya que tambien fue colonia española, principalmente entre acapulco y manila que era la ruta que seguian los barcos para transportar mercancias o personas (esclavos principalmente) de un lugar a otro.

This is an Americanized Mexican version of a wedding she’s I believe ( an interpretation im seeing I may be wrong) a third generation Mexican. I respect that she wants to continue the tradition but our Mexican culture isn’t a show. And I feel like this is what is done. As a first generation Mexican woman who’s first language is Spanish and was raised always going to Mexico and learning the culture and living in a rancho and a pueblo there is nothing Mexican about this wedding besides the colors, mariachi, tequila. There’s so much more to show and if you’re going to make a video on a wedding please show a first gen so you can see a deeper meaning of what a Mexican wedding is

Most of the Mexican traditions they did is just done in San Miguel de Allende. My parents are from Guanajuato and the only things that are similar to the more traditional weddings are the lazo and the arras. San Miguel de Allende is populated by a lot of americans and the tourist are mostly americans that is why the wedding is americanized.

Well, aside from the traditional Filipino barong, 1. Mojigangas - we have a similar festival in the Philippines (Gigantes Festival) 2. El Laso - in Filipino weddings we use a cord and veil 3. Las Arras - (Arrhae) same ritual with the coins I mean the video pretty much states that these practices stem from the Catholic faith and can’t categorize these as plainly Filipino or plainly Mexican

The title and description very misleading. Click-Bait!. This was NOT Catholic Mexican Filipino Wedding. It's not even in a Church and in a Mass. So technically, their marriage is not recognized and blessed by the Catholic Church. The most SAD part is they talked about being Catholic, and so as the Culture for both Mexican and Filipino. BUT, I can totally understand why they did it their way. I'm Filipino and married to a Chicana (Mexican Woman, born and raised from California) for 21 years now, We are both Catholic, and are now both devout Catholic. Our kids are raised devout Catholics and both of our cultures and traditions are present at home and in their up bringing. Both of us, have been to each other's countries. Funny that they talked about the clothes but for the wedding, it was abandoned, its all Americanized Also, their perception on marriage was so construed instead of coming to Sacrament of Matrimony. Obviously, both of them are not formed Catholics. Just Culturally Catholics. This is really a secular wedding, so not sure where the whole culture and religion this video is talking about. This is more of a viewpoint to challenge the perception of traditional marriage. They had prioritize their support to Same Sex Marriage, than the teaching of the Church on Marriage. I agree with the comment besides showing the Barong and the guy, where is the Pinoy Culture here? In any case, God Bless them both and their family! May God's peace be with them. Praying for them that they find in their hearts and mind, to one day get their marriage blessed or convalidated in the Catholic Church.

I know I'm late, but I think it's important to mention the 200 year connection that Mexico had with the Philippines when the Galleon trade was connecting Asia with the rest of the world (Acapulco-Manila Galleon or Nao de China). RESPONSE ON BEHALF OF TRADITIONAL CATHOLICS ONLY: We have both Mexicans and Filipinos rightfully complaining about the lack of Filipino background and the a watered down Mexican wedding in this video. But we do not have enough traditional Catholics responding to their catholic traditions claim, so to let me do the honor. As a devout Catholic, in response to the couple, you both claim to care about your catholic faith or “religion” as you call it but obviously lack knowledge of what it truly means to be a catholic. Like people are saying, there isn’t really anything truly Mexican, Filipino, or catholic about this. The Catholic Church isn’t against interracial marriages as this guy assumes but they are against same sex marriage for a reason, based on what Jesus himself taught about marriage, and because it goes against God’a natural law (will). Since you two chose not to get married within the Church, and if you truly care about the faith, you would know that your marriage is still considered invalid and therefore are living in the constant state of mortal sin if you are cohabiting and having relations. FYI: This marriage could have totally been truly catholic, Mexican, and Filipino. I’m Mexican and my girlfriend is Filipino. We are both truly catholic and already know that this ain’t it. Praying for this couple!

False Advertising tbh....the only truely filipino aspect of the wedding was the men who wore barongs. Everything else was based on the wife's mexican culture, especially because they were married mostly with her family in Mexico. That being said, beautiful wedding, wish them the best!

Beautiful ceremony. With Filipino weddings, there are three other parts of the event at church. Those are "The Veil," on which a thule cloth is placed on the shoulder of the groom and on top of the bride's actual veil. After that comes "The Cord" which will be placed on top of the veil. Both symbolizes unity. Then comes "The Arras," which in most cases are old coins that are welded into a crown or are in small cages (gold plated) to symbolize prosperity. I just can't remember if "The Unity Candle" is lighted by the couple before or after the actual wedding mass. The BARONG TAGALOG was called "The Poor Man's Tuxedo" until that time when Ramon Magsaysay decided to wear it to his Inauguration as President of the Philippines. What a wonderful blend of cultures.
