For upgrades on N54 motors I highly advise making sure that the belt and all the idler pulleys are replaced before upping the boost. I had the unfortunate experience of the tensioner spring failing and shredding the belt and my n54 motor played hungry hungry hippos with what was left. That meant dropping the sub frame and oil pan and piking out millions of black particles that used to be a belt. The infamous oil filter housing gasket a must and valve cover gasket. The N54 motor is strong and very reliable the plastic power steering pump pulley not so much, as well as all the other plastic. I would replace 100% of all the plastic. It is hard to think that the Germans would engineer such a powerful motor and wrap it in cheap plastic but it is. The last mod I would advise is a catch can set up if not you will be walnut blasting every 60k miles.

My turbos are orginal so is the intake and charge pipe they have not given me issues yet. I might try to upgrade them before they get me. Car still drives great I love it. The individual repair shop I take it to for repairs and maintenance said that the cost to replace the turbos if theybgo is 9,000 now. He did inspect my turbos and said they look fine they look healthy.
@friguy44443 жыл бұрын
@@SuperJeremi10 If you're only wanting 400 hp nd a boat ton of torque then you don't need to upgrade the turbos. You really don't need to even upgrade anything but your air cleaner (If your car came with an oil cooler from factory which most did but not all). A K&N air filter on your stock intake and if your car has the oil cooler from factory then you'll be around 390 hp and 410 torque. It's the torque that makes a huge difference in the first tune or so. It just becomes a beast right off. You can go with a FMIC (Front Mount Inter cooler) and change the charge pipe to go to a stage 2 (Depending on the tuners version of stages etc).

These cars are tuners dream. The N54 was built to handle 700-800hp. $2000-$3000 you can easily have a 400-500whp beast. Just upgrade the front brakes and better tires too. Intake > downpipe > FMIC > Chargepipe BOV > tune. Also if it’s a project fun car, just gut the interior. Lol save weight.
@shanebroom91734 жыл бұрын
Charge pipe and dual cone intakes is what you want to do first after that the boost pipe if you didnt do that along with the charge pipe then intercooler would be next and them downpipes in my opinion atleast because you can use mhd 1+ tune if your looking for an extra 60whp with the stock downpipes also cant forget about upgraded diverter valves because the plastic stock ones fail you can buy cheap ones off amazon and the work great to be honest but most people go the bov route which is fun as well i just want my car to look stock i just bought everything and im pretty much doing it all at once to just try every single tune and see which one i like for around town and for going out on the track and or to race people on the highway

ALPINA still even in 2019 makes engines for their B3/B4 models by taking N55 and basically "downgrading" to N54. They put back 2 vacuum actuated turbines from N54 and they also put a forget steel crankshaft (not from N54 but the same idea). Of course in addition to that they do some additional tunes, most of them coincide with what N54 tuners do - one step colder NGK plugs, larger intercooler, custom ECU and TCU flash etc.

Hi, I am about to buy a 2010 E90 325i. I saw your vid where you suggested the 328i as reliable but didn't mention much about 325i. This is the facelift model. I have had some BMW's before (E30,E36x2,E39). I am pretty concerned about too much electronics, turbos, screens, I-drive etc. The one I am looking at has very low mileage. I need auto transmission because we have one of the worst traffic in the world. It does have paddle shifts which I like (any concern there?). Also, I think it doesn't have the I-drive system I think nor any crazy screen. Do you think this is a good thing? I am not that into getting screens because they surely would outdate quickly like cell phones. PS: I still have my E39 528i from 1998 with revamped hella tail lights and Depo Angel eyes and works fine. Don't know how longer it is going to function before turning into a money pit. Still, very difficult to sell and comfortable car. I might be able to sell it for like 3k, and it has around 160k km. Notice here cars are for the most part 2x in USA in price so basically can't get anything decent for that money instead of well... some cash. Plus there isn't any collectionist scene, maybe just with M's. Should I sell or keep? I would really appreciate any advice. Keep up the nice vids.

When I saw the Dinan site pulled up I knew you were new to the platform lol way overpriced with little support. Same goes for COBB. MHD all day, or JB4 with an MHD backend flash. MHD also has multiple E85 maps avaliable. You will also want to upgrade your lpfp. If you intend to run full E85 you're going to want port injection as the hpfp won't keep up. PI will also eliminate the need for walnut blasting your intake valves clean. As for injectors you will want index 11 or 12. 12 being the newest. The valve cover is plastic and the pcv valve system in the cover is prone to clog and crack. I recommend a catch can with an aftermarket aluminum cover. Respect for the N54 coverage though. Thumbs up.

N54 will always be known as Europe's 2jz for its capability for innovation. You'll see guys rolling close to 800 horses on those beauties which is ludicrous fast. Same thing with Porsche's 997 GT2RS, a beast that was almost quicker than a Veyron on a straight away...

Babar iqbal catless downpipe too. N54 has huge potentials, it can handle high boost pressure.

An intercooler can give you 20+hp what do you mean no extra power involved? Especially with the dci intake and downpipes put together.

I love my 2009 e92 335i, but I wish mine wasn't a perfect example of a money pit, had mine for 5years now, and probably only got a year and a half of drive time, the rest of the time it's been at the BMW shop. It's still at the shop right now. I don't want to give up on it because I want my money's worth, especially that I bought it during the time a 335i costed around 20k. My wallet hates me for buying that car
@EscaLaid27PS35 жыл бұрын
Only good thing about my car sitting for so long though is that the car still only has 40k miles on it 👍

True they can be money pits and I find most things on it are quite difficult to change and therefore it becomes pricey due to labour.

N54 owner here. If you were going to spend so much $$$ into mods, why didn't you just get the M3 in first place? Same money, better car.
@ECPP5 жыл бұрын
True but basic tune gets you M3 land. Next level mods crush an M3 and thats where I am headed.
@kuraryuX5 жыл бұрын
Why buy a slower car, you can buy a 335 for about 5 to 6 grand, a mhd tune, full bolt ons, m3 suspension and rear end you'll destroy m3 *anywhere*

E90 m3s have a bearing eatting V8. Twins will eat it up all day. M3 does perform better handling but how many track any cars.
@luluhus15 жыл бұрын
You must not know too much about your car "n54 owner ". They are called "m3 eaters" for a reason. It doesn't take much to tear an M3 up either.

I'd say, get the E60 535i and go nuts on parts then race your M5

I hear ya if I can get a manual, for sure, it’s just really hard to find. A highly modded 535 could teach the M5 a lesson

My E60 has upgraded twins! I did a build on my channel! It should be making in the 550+ rwhp range! If you want to race we can arrange that just to see what a modded N54 can do
@aaronlaro20835 жыл бұрын
@@nateonfireball I just subbed to your channel. I also have an e60 535i and i'm slowly collecting the parts to upgrade mine. I got lucky when I bought mine, right before I bought it the injectors were replaced with the index 12 ones, the plugs and coils were replaced, the problematic hpfp was replaced with BMW's upgraded one and when I got it I replaced the lpfp and the ekpm3. So anyone else reading this that wants to upgrade an N54, the parts I just listed need to be done before you start upgrading it.
@nateonfireball5 жыл бұрын
Aaron Laro thanks for the sub man I appreciate it! I’m going to be releasing a new video next week to new N54 owners! I’ve had both sides of the coin! A beat up N54 that needed a lot of work and a mint condition one owner car that I bought from BMW! I’ll cover a lot of that! Honestly man for the E60’s FBO is really fun! The torque comes in really strong with full bolt ons and E60 fuel! Moves the big car well! I’m dialing in these upgraded monsters but you can’t shove too much boost with these turbos in at low rpm you’ll bend rods. Let me know if you have any questions about anything. You’re 100% on the right track with knocking maintenance out first. It’s not fun when you do an upgrade and can’t enjoy it because you’re misfiring or whatever.

@GODISGOOD19165 жыл бұрын
Actually Injen DCI intake is the best intake you could possibly getvon this car, just put some heat shields on each cone and you'll be good especially if you're running the intakes with dp's and a 7 stepped intercooler. Maybe you should get a walnut blast, that's whats robbing your power, or maybe your running a stock intercooler and it's hella heat soaked
