I live in Ohio and I volunteered on the campaign to get a state constitutional amendment for abortion access here. I can assure you that this is definitely happening. People will vote for the abortion measure, but they still support Donald Trump. We just have to hope that the abortion measures encourage more young people and Democrats to turn out, and more Independent voters to vote for Kamala Harris. Because Trump voters are still Trump voters, even if they support reproductive rights.

There was a Pharma company testing some oral contraceptives for men a few years ago, but they didn’t put them on the market because the men complained of side effects like headaches. They ended the whole project because of that, wheareas women put up with any number of side effects from “the pill” because the alternative would be much, much worse. We really need to find a way to make men have half the babies in the world! But, then again, there wouldn’t even BE that half of the babies, and they would be passing abortion laws “up until birth” (if any of them got that far) as trump would say. We would also get longer maternity and paternity leave as well as free childcare up to kindergarten, because those guys won’t want to be home changing diapers and cleaning up baby spit. But, they might actually learn to respect women a lot more. Wouldn’t that be great?

Going back in time to restore old laws and regulations, won’t work. They were replaced by new laws bc they didn’t work when they existed. Boys and girls had sex but the burden of pregnancy fell on the female to make decisions about keeping or adopting. If a woman who wasn’t really wealthy sought an abortion, her only option was going to a back alley person or use a hanger to abort the pregnancy. The back alley people often weren’t doctors, they didn’t use sterile equipment, and very often the women got serious infections and either died or were rendered sterile. Many women bled to death in the alleyways. We now have a much better understanding of how to safely abort a pregnancy and medicine is evolving very rapidly. Why would anyone want to destroy all of the advancements we’ve achieved over the past 50 years? I understand not wanting to use abortion in place of birth control but to stop allowing abortions to women who could lose their lives, is crazy.

This is some pretty good pragmatic analysis. It seems a bit complex for most voters, who as cognitive scientist George Lakoff points out, do not vote on issues but vote their identity. Pro-choicers have something tantamount to a mental disorder that causes them to ignore the bleeding obvious, and I know of no way to get around this. Also, pro-choicers have an allergy to understanding why anti-choicers are that way, even though anti-choicers state it clearly, and it is also why they oppose contraception and IVF and pre-natal care, and do not care about 10-year-old rape victims. All of this makes coherent sense in the minds of anti-choicers, but pro-choicers insist on believing it's because anti-choicers believe abortion is murder or want to control women. This is the Really Big Stupid, but it makes sense to the feminist sensibilities. Given that pro-choicers blithely picked their noses for a half century, I doubt there is any way to smarten them up. But when all abortion goes away, it will have as much to do with the half-disguised willfully ignorant complicity of pro-choicers as it does with anti-choicers.
