One of the things I realized very recently is that Anxiety is NOT a reaction. It FEELS like a reaction. But it's something in our minds that's running around in tight little circles looking for something to attach itself to.

@@joannacardoso1115 Hey thanks. Sometimes the same thing said the 37th time is the one that hits you. I tripped over that realization last year, at 51. Yeah it doesn't make it go away. But it helps me box out my anxiety and separate it from what's actually going on. Like "okay man you're a tornado of 'holy hell' right now. You're not going to be able to make a career decision. Just go eat some protein and drink some water."

Avoiding the news just gives me a different kind of anxiety, but choosing my news sources and limiting the time I spend on them has improved some things. What really helped me (your mileage may vary) was deleting all of my “social” media apps. Except IG. That one’s still kinda nice.

A tip is to practice checking in with yourself multiple times a day. Take a moment to pause and ask yourself “how am I feeling” if you try to do it when you are at the peak of your anxiety it’s not going to work without practice so that’s where the breathing and grounding exercises help.

Especially when it manifests into physical symptoms!! Like oh I feel like I’m gunna vomit or oh I can’t breathe or oh I feel like I’m having a heart attack… I have anxiety about my health even though I’m healthy so when I get those symptoms with bad anxiety attacks man it’s a spiral that feels endless. Anxiety makes you think everything is literally wrong and you’ll die… His videos have helped me so much too. And I had a bit of a panic attack at work today I felt so stupid, embarrassed and whatnot I just froze and my brain shut off I couldn’t think for the longest time I was panicking more and even though I got it under control I keep thinking and worrying about it, so this video came at a perfect time.

I've been journaling daily since 2016, and I can say that in addition to my daily thoughts, it is really great to sometimes just dump all your worries and thoughts onto paper all free form style - there's something extremely cathartic about putting pen to paper and physically writing it all out. a lot of the brain dumps I have done end up happening when I am feeling anxious and feel stuck - and what I find interesting is going back to those old journal entries and reading what I wrote and realizing I completely forgot that was a thing I was worried about, realizing it all worked out just fine, and ultimately it puts into perspective my current anxieties. If I was THIS worried 2 years ago about xyz and it worked out fine, maybe I am ALSO just spinning up about something that will be just fine now. That kinda thing. I've also utilized some of your journaling exercises from past videos and found them to be a fun break in my routine and they've given me more to think about, too! Thanks for the video, as always!!

@sparklypoof
@sparklypoof Жыл бұрын
@@lalalalalalalala8558 what's helped me is making it part of my bedtime routine - I get out everything from the day that needs to go outta my brain so I can rest easily. most days I just need to write a few paragraphs (or even less), but sometimes if I need to do a HUGE brain dump I will open up a notion blank page and just type it all out (since I can type faster than I write, it goes faster). another thing that has helped is finding the right combo of paper and pen, as silly as that may sound! there's just something really soothing about using a pen that feels good to write with, on paper you enjoy touching. I started out w/the leuchtturm 1917 A6 notebooks and used them for at least 5 years no problemo, and while I like ball point pens sometimes, for journaling I prefer felt tip and absolutely LOVE the sakura microns (in size 01 for daily journaling). years into this journey, I prefer heavier weight paper (scribbles that matter, for example, or archer and olive) but I still adore the microns. also, if I REALLY don't feel like writing anything, I will at least open up my journal, and say so, i.e. "feeling sad today." and leave it at that. that way I get the habit ticked off for the day in my brain, and can process my feels later on when I am in a mood to write more. I hope this helps! good luck on your journaling journey :)

Oh also, “Self-Help For Your Nerves” by Dr. Weekes is a chef’s kiss book for anxiety. “Face, Accept, Float, Wait for time to pass.” Pretty much what you said about observing it rather than being engulfed by it. Really like the idea of ,"adopting a mindset of hope instead of fear" since, i believe for most, anxiety stems from forced fears and thinking that things will crumble and you'll be helpless or that you have to be ready to defend for your life when all it was, was a small trigger. It actually made me tear up hearing that, since it's a truth that sounds simple but really hard to think of yourself. Great stuff as always!

My brain is very good at constantly imagining the worst case scenario: every car ride could be the last, every thunderstorm will cause a tree to fall on me in my sleep, etc. This year, I am just making my brain imagine a good scenario immediately after catastrophic thoughts appear. In therapy I did this thing where I made “movies” of the specific triggers, where we worked with boiling pans to describe the state we’re in. For example, the moment where I noticed I’m anxious I’m already quite anxious, but I get so anxious because for example I had a few awkward social interactions during the day or made mistakes or something along those lines. Once I saw how every time it plays a similar pattern I was able to notice these sub-stages and already make efforts to journal, meditate, draw, or whatever works to reduce or stabilize my anxious state. Really helps in short and long term because you get present and also learn what types of triggers you have and how effective your strategies are. That said, I did my therapy a while ago and will probably revisit. Also, as a part of therapy, we made posters about things that calm us, which I hung in my bedroom and was my designated “de-escalation room”, and just being there pavloved me into getting relaxed once I entered my bedroom. ;)

That's great content! I always say to my friends that struggle with anxiety that it's just the result of pure instincts, not many know that and consequently have worst "mind tools" that won' t allow them to cope well with their state. The root cause of that is that in the last centuries people made the mistake to detach themselves from their instincts, (like icarus flying and forgetting that his wings were made out of wax too, not just feathers) even emotions, forgetting that of course we must strive to be better but at the end of the day we're still animals, and what we developed (as animals, not just as humans) through more than 500 millions of years is something that's still with us and probably will stay with us as long as we'll continue feeling the ground beneath our feet. This led to flawed moral rules and as a consequence of that new mental illnesses which at the time of course we couldn't understand. I feel like the internet is a device that makes us face our badly engineered morals 24/7, now we don't even have a home/small community in which we can recharge, we're always exposed to everything, and that's why we as a society are constantly dealing with anxiety and depression. "Perfect" models are pushed on us constantly and while our rational part may remind us that that stuff is just not true, our brain in the meantime may be screaming "DANGER" constantly, invalidating any argument, which leads to feelings of unworthyness, of being fundamentally wrong with everything etc. Luckily the internet is also helpful in spreading awareness and i hope that in a near future we won't just be able to cope with things by ourselves through the means we have, such as meditation for instance, but that the society will make an active effort to make itself feel better. We have the option to live better now, we should decide to speak about this more and do it, to consolidate what we already have instead fo focusing solely on productivity. Nature just doesn't care about productivity, trees die, the world warms up and our brains (which are part of nature too!) feel like they are slowly poisoned by something. We need to stop and reflect about it before it's too late. We're all fellow mortals trying to enjoy it here, there's no point in limiting eachother just because "that's how the world goes". 20 years ago the world was already different, a century ago it was already completely different and nothing makes me think it's going to stay this way for long. I just hope we can take the right direction down this path, learning from what we know instead of just denying what now is just factual evidence. If you read all of this (Even if you didnt ofc) I hope you have a great day! You are not alone!

I thought this video was recommended to me because i was recently searching how to deal with anxiety, but then i realized it was actually brand new and just super relevant to what I'm dealing with right now. Another small relaxation tip that sounds super simple but helped me a ton with dealing with the physical parts of anxiety is to relax your pelvic floor muscle, the muscle you hold when you really have to pee. It sends a signal to the rest of your body to chill too. I also have a massager to rub my legs and arms with because i feel like it physically helps distribute the tenseness from anxiety.

Oh, another thing. Something that helps me a lot is to recognise at a physical level what anxiety does to me. For example, I feel a burning sensation in my chest and palms of my hands. So when the physical sensation is there, I know I need to do something. I try to accept that it’s there, and understand where it’s coming from to rationalise as much as possible. Then I’ll do something about it that makes me feel better like cooking or going for a walk 😊

1. You are truly doing your life’s work with this channel. I can’t tell you how much you’ve inspired and encouraged me, (I’m an artist and writer with a ton of anxiety and limiting beliefs I’m working through,) and you’ve also made me laugh when I didn’t think I had a laugh in me. I just want to affirm to you that you’re making a positive difference in what appears to be many many peoples lives. This is one of the channels I follow here that I actually rush to watch new uploads, and they are ALL so good, entertaining and useful. Your empathy and teaching points are so genuine. So can’t thank you enough. 2. I preordered your book! So excited to get it, so proud of you! I know it’ll be a hit. -K

I enjoy you and your videos very much. I am a Nana, but I also been "closet artist" all my life while Nursing was my main money making career. Traditional paints and canvas, pencil and paper. I have ipad and one of their drawing pens, learning curve here. I encourage art on all levels frequently, it seems to bring people up a step in daily life. Art has kept me inspired, as organized many circumstance of daily life obligations to appreciate,line,light,and color.

I LOVE your videos! I found you at a time when I desperately needed someone to help me and didn’t know where to turn, and then you were there. I’ve started journaling and sometimes it’s hard as fuck, but most of the time it’s GREAT! Writing about things that make me happy and things that have bothered me every day really puts things into perspective. I’ve preordered your book and I’m soooo excited for it to arrive!

I receive anxiety just existing, even meditating (trying to) and gardening, and especially while overthinking how to calm my anxiety. This video was actually really useful! Journaling is proving to be SO helpful. Thanks for laying it out in such a way that I feel less crazy for how anxious I get.

Really needed this video today, I've only recently just started to actively deal with my constant anxiety so stuff like this video is always super helpful. Also who knew that just drinking more water would help so much, it's also helped me cut out more caffeinated and alcoholic drinks which helps a lot too. Keep up the good work man!

A strategy I’m trying and what makes meditation more fun for me is imagining I’m a dog sitting along the highway and that all of the thoughts that come into my mind are cars I wanna chase, I’ll find myself chasing a thought and when I realize I’m thinking about that thought I try to stop chasing it and let it go. A lot of times it doesn’t work super well bc my dog brain wants to run a marathon after all of these thoughts but it’s at least a silly visual that makes it feel less intense

And like was said anxiety very much is attached to survival. A lot of the time we adopt beliefs and behaviors as young kids that we carry into adulthood for survival. I seriously recommend EMDR to anyone who can get it who has PTSD or anxiety, it’s not a cure all by no means but it helps the brain process things that are hard to do. I’ve been going to therapy for years but I recently started EMDR and it has done so much for me. I’m still anxious, I’m always going to be a more anxious person but I’m a lot more connected and grounded even from the small bits I’ve done.

Thank you so much for this video, amazing as always!! Some of the strategies I already used, but what hit me the most was the "hope instead of fear". I can't get away from some sources of my anxiety, but I for sure can change the way I manage situations and feelings to feel better.

Also, I hope this doesn't sound too weird but I am pretty sure I walked past you the other week when I was out walking with my dog, and I just wanted I say that I hope you are doing ok with the lockdown and everything going on right now

Recently my therapist described anxiety as unchanneled energy,our bodies sending signals for us to do something,which is kind of the same description as said in the video,but with a bit additional something,we can turn anxiety into work(sorta)-if you can break the cycle and e.g. sit yourself down to work,anxiety is like fuel
