Beanie and toboggan are slang names for a knit watch cap. Beanie is used in the north and toboggan is used in the south. However, knit watch cap is a more universal name for this headwear.

A toboggan is a simple sled traditionally used by children. It is also a traditional form of transport used by the Innu and Cree of northern Canada. In modern times, it is used on snow to carry one or more people (often children) down a hill or other slope for recreation. Designs vary from simple, traditional models to modern engineered composites. A toboggan differs from most sleds or sleighs in that it has no runners or skis (or only low ones) on the underside. The bottom of a toboggan rides directly on the snow. Some parks include designated toboggan hills where ordinary sleds are not allowed and which may include toboggan runs similar to bobsleigh courses.[1] Toboggans can vary depending on the climate and geographical region. Such examples are Tangalooma (Australia) where toboggans are made from Masonite boards and used for travelling down steep sand dunes at speeds up to 40 km/h (25 mph).

Consider a dual fuel genset (gas/propane). You could tie it into your main house propane tank. You will lose 5-10% overall power from gas to propane, but you will not have to haul gas except for emergencies AND in my area in Texas, propane is cheaper. Depending on genset, consumption is about the same.

Your bees look great. I've raised bees for many years and overwintering is always a challenge. I also have never treated my bees with any antibiotics or medications. Its a hard way to go but eventually you get stronger colonies. Never had any diseases. Varrora mites and hive beetles are there but a strong hive cures a lot of problems. Love your show.

I am in Indiana and my family always called it a "toboggan", I will be 70 in the new year. But doing research, I have found that the word Toboggan has only been in use since 1929, and was a term used by those who road toboggans in the winter. Interesting it says it was a popular term in South USA. Then I did a little more research and the term "beanie" came into use in the early 1900s as a knitted cover for your "bean", slang for head.

It is a toboggan and a beanie depending on where you grew up. My dad was military and I grew up between Washington state, Oklahoma California, Florida and Louisiana. I totally understand what people are talking about no matter what they call it. I crochet. To me a toboggan is thicker and sticks up with a pompom on the stop. A beanie is more form fitting without a pompom.

It's a beanie or a tuque (pronounced "toook"). A toboggan is a long narrow sled used for the sport of coasting downhill over snow or ice. It typically is made of a lightweight board that is curved upward and backward at the front. However, strangely, often Southern U.S. folks wearing woolly hats to keep warm in the freezing but fun conditions in which toboggan riders started to call their wool hats “toboggan hats”, but since at least 1929, that second word “hats“ has lazily been dropped. In the warmer American south snow is rare.
