The M1A1 on display there is from my Tank company Alpha Co 2nd Tank Battalion USMC while we were deployed to Iraq in 2006. Sgt G Ulloa was one of my Marines and was the Tank Commander of White 2 of 2nd Platoon. If you watch the video that plays near the Tank you will learn his story of how he was KIA Aug 3rd 2006. I was the Platoon Sergeant for 2nd Platoon during that deployment and George was one of my Marines. So that display has a very special meaning to me and remember each of the displays there have a story behind them. They are there to honor and serve as a reminder that brave men fought and lived on these vehicles, and they are not to be forgotten. Again all the thanks in the world to the Collins family for their hospitality to us on our visits there and their commitment to saving these awesome pieces of history. MSgt Michael Kadlub USMC Ret

My first visit there I was amazed to what they had on displayed. The second time was for the reenactment "Battle For The Airfield" weekend. The collection in the other buildings that are only open on special days are equally impressive. At the time I wasn't into modeling when I visited the museum. I got to ride in there B-17 two weeks before it went down.

So a buddy of mine is a volunteer at the museum, they've recently added a refurbished holocaust rail car that still has some of the original wood and frame. It's a fantastic museum and every October they hold the Battle for the Airfield reenactment that actually uses some of the vehicles that are on display such as the Hetzer tank.

Great video! I have some local favorites but the presentation of the artifacts at the one in your video is spectacular! I live in Austin and the local “Texas Military Forces Museum” is fantastic - esp their focus on the 36th Division- some great and large dioramas provide some great modeling inspiration- they put on good living history events The 45th Division museum in Oklahoma City is another favorite that I’ve seen often My all time favorite is probably the Flying Heritage and Combat Armor museum near Seattle which recently re-opened Great content as always, Hank!

Years ago when my sons were young, we took several day trips from Bucks County, PA, to Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. Truly memorable and unique events. There was a vast collection of captured, unrestored enemy armaments from WWI through Viet Nam. Probably the most complete collection in one place. They were unrestored, not protected from the weather, and suffered degradation from the elements and age(picture all the rotted and collapsed rubber tires and tracks). Imagine seeing a gigantic rail gun, V-2 rocket, and Nebelwerfer. Many of the armored vehicles showed the effects of anti-tank rounds. In addition there was a huge collection of US armor and vehicles. One cannot grasp the extent of the collection because much if not all has been dispersed to other bases. Maybe they will be restored? There was also a museum dedicated to small arms. A complete collection unseen elsewhere. Now a digression. This past winter my wife and I took a tour of SE Asia, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. The Vietnamese were uniformly respectful, friendly and showed zero animosity towards Americans. Hanoi and HoChiMinh City(Saigon) are modern urban areas, the countryside is still very rural. We visited the Hanoi Hilton and it was somber. John McCain’s story was treated extremely respectfully, though the torture and deprivation of the prisoners was underplayed or not cited. Also visited CuChi tunnels. Saw much captured and abandoned US materiel . More bomb casings and mortar rounds than one can count. Overall an awesome and somber experience. One must remember that Vietnam is an authoritarian country and always be mindful of that fact. It is also sobering that with all the turmoil around the South China Sea that Vietnam may turn out to be one of our most dependable allies. 1972-74, I was a US Army CPT, stationed at Ft Carson. I was never in Vietnam before this last trip. .
