If the same vehicle is used for multiple factions, using any distinguishing marker is fair game imo. It might be insensitive to some extent but at the same time however, look at War Thunder and the multiple Shermans that are used and are incredibly similar to each other in the same ranking as other faction variants. The way the vehicle looks in key areas would determine if it's wise to engage in combat or not. A clear Z on all sides just makes that mental calculation quicker.

Yes, I would agree with you if the war was already over and perhaps a few years had already passed since the end of the war. But in the middle of the war, while every day the symbol is used to advertise the "special operation" and thus indirectly also the war crimes in Russia, and soldiers and vehicles with this symbol commit these crimes, I find it inappropriate. That's why I find the swastika comparison from the top comment under this short unsuitable for the current situation.

The Russian Z is nothing more than an identifier, it’s used to symbolise a friendly (or enemy) vehicle. It is more prominent in the Russo-Ukrainian conflict because both sides have very similar or sometimes the same vehicles. An it looks like they put the Z on the vehicles in the game for the same reason. I agree the war needs to stop, even as a former Russian soldier, but I don’t think we should stop doing things because they are to similar to real life events.

It's considered highly offensive by Ukrainians and has been utilised as a political symbol by Russia. Z O V Meaning "Call" in Russian Z and V (forgot the names they use) is used by Both DNR and LNR (Donbass regions/former Ukrainian regions that have been fighting in the Ukrianian cival war agains Ukraine since 2014) Z and V also have Russian units attached to them to support and bolster the LNR and DNR troops They are not restricted to mobile phone use or capturing footage, hence why you see so many videos from the Russian side but the symbols are almost always Z or V At the start of the war Z was mainly used by the DNR forces while V was used by the LNR forces, but I beleive groups started to use whatever of the 2 they wanted to as time went on Group O is know as "Brave group" and consists of strictly just Russian Military forces from Russia itself, they have restrictions on phones and video capture, hence why you almost never see the O group videos from the Russian side besides news or war bloggers/journalists.

I find it quite helpful distinguishing friend from foe in the heat of battle, same for the arm/leg bands. It’s probably hits close to home to those in the middle of this active conflict, I get your sentiment completely. As a European it is simply very hard to personally see so many broken Ukrainian families that have fled the conflict and then see people play a video game depicting the literal cause of these real peoples suffering. I have met single mothers, teenagers without parents and kids. If I had been exposed to middle-eastern refugees to the same extent during those wars I think I would have had a similar opinion I have now but I simply wasn't. I don't think it means you have bad morals if you play this game but I do think it means you might not be very exposed to the gravity of the situation in Ukraine and if you were to be exposed to it personally I doubt you would think the game is very amusing.

Im fine with adding russia and ukraine. (This next paragraph might be completely wrong, I got it some from random dude on the internet a few months ago) Thing is the Z, I know it became a massive pro russian kind of symbol, but it used to mean "Zepad" (might be wrong) Meaning "west" meaning the vehicle came from the west (most likely belurus) and other vehicles would have different marking such as V for Vostok (east) So these marking would be unnecessary unless you were to add variety to said symbols

Both factions have vehicle and uniform distinction. The Ukraine have the + on their vehicles, and the Russians have the Z because they use the same equipment. On top of that, an equal sense of nationalism is present in both factions. I have complicated feelings as a Ukrainian soldier who has fought in multiple campaigns now. But really, its not any different than the slew of games that released during the GWOT using the Middle Eastern conflicts as their settings. I dont really see an issue with it. Shooters were based on real conflicts since ww2. Noone had problems with ww2 German symbolics, noone had issue with Japanese imperial army's symbolic, so why should we have problems with Russian symbolic?
