Great video, man. I agree with everything you said here. Like I've heard so many producers say, "The magic is in the midrange." Also, the distortion tip is key. People would be surprised but bass is almost always distorted in professional productions. Even if you think it's completely inappropriate for the genre, it's still probably distorted. I've seen a Nashville mix engineer add distortion to the bass on the cleanest sounding pop track. You can't hear the distortion in the mix. It just adds harmonic information that allows it to cut through. It's just another way of adding midrange content.
