Me and some people on the thaumcraft server found out that they were selling some stuff straight out of thaumcraft, and the TC devs confirmed that they had no permission. So we made contact with the essential team, that's how we learned that they were completely clueless about how copyright worked and thought it was no problem to just use those assets. Either they're telling the truth, in which case they're just really unprofessional for starting a real business without knowing shit about the most basic legalities, or they lied and hoped to get away with selling stolen art.

If you manually edit a mod's files sometimes they have a line of code that basically tells the mod what version it works with but you can just change it and in a few cases it'll work with the other version without issues

This looks promising! Have to try this out, since all I wanted to do was create a basic server anyway. Completely frustrated with the constant changes they always make with the updating since it seems like it's affecting how to setup servers now. Even with a completely updated version of Java, for whatever reason I'm only able to extract the files from a a downloaded server.jar of version 1.16.5 which is a version all the way back in 2021. Every newer version I attempted to extract the files come up with the same "java exception has occurred". The last time making a server back in 2019 was definitely not this difficult compared to whatever the heck you have to do now

Really nice mod only issue I see with it is being that if you leave the game the server ends , it’s kinda nice to allow my friends to open up servers whenever they want , but the trade off is this runs way better

Better option than Realms tho. -spawn chunks irrelevant (for offline overtime farms) because 15min inactivity puts server to sleep -similar timeframe on kick for inactivity -random "kicked by operator" moments -unmoddable, have to download world and reupload to install even DATAPACKS and experimental features (namely terralith/worldgen datapacks) do not and will not work Yeaaaaaa..... if I'm gonna need to be on the world for even spawn loaded farms to work I might as well play this way while I'm waiting for Sewing Machine Utilities to update for my planned fabric server ^^

I use Essential with some friends due to the lack of a free server provider we actually enjoy, and surprisingly, there was little to no lagspikes (aside from one of them having a bad router at the time), we had quite a bit of fun for the first session tl;dr Essential is basically the perfect mod for Minecraft Multiplayer nowadays :]

Lan does work with people across the world if you know a few tricks actually. programs such as hamachi and zerotier are like pc servers that connect two computers the same way they would be if they were in the same house, and as such allow lan worlds to be played, I've done it with a friend from a different country and it works incredibly well, even compared to actually minecraft servers our connecting was incredible, often-times even better, and when you compare it to the extreme lag you can get using this mod it's almost laughable. It's kinda annoying that almost no one knows about this and, though you do have to do some things that not everyone would deem safe, such as turning off parts of the windows firewall(which im pretty sure are completely useless anyways) so that the connection will actually work(it's not like a requirement set by these programs, more just something that they unknowingly need) it is by far the best way to go about doing this. I've debated making a video about this but my yt channel is purely about building so I decided against it.

@@DanielGonzalezL Hamachi, Radmin and Zerotier don't require port forwarding like a normal server would need. Here in Brazil it's actually the most common method to play online when you don't wanna set up a server.jar. I actually thought the whole community knew about this kind of program. It's pretty easy to use, just open the chosen program, set it up quickly, open to LAN and boom, you're on a SMP. I've never used the mod in question, and I think its even easier setup is a pretty cool feature, but this seems pretty likely to get laggy. Again, I didn't test it, so take that with a grain of salt. Not a native english speaker, sorry for any possible mistakes.

1: No the “server” closes the moment the owner of the single player world leaves 2: The world does save as it is a single player world 3: I know you can add mods I’m just not sure if the other people need to have the exact same ones Side note: Using this mod can be very resource intensive for your computer especially when bigger mods are added with it because it is technically turning your PC into a server while running the game, so I would recommend having a strong PC if you want to add big mods (waypoints and simple quality of life mods should be fine)

You can add mods to the world, I've done this myself before. Just make sure that you both have the same mods/modpacks installed with Essentials included inside of the mod folder (obviously). Once you've done so, boot the game up and use essentials to join your friend with whatever wacky mods you've got.

That's not how it works. That would cost Mojang/Microsoft tons of money as they would have to pay for your multiplayer. This is why Realms exists. This mod pays for servers by selling user data. If you want to keep privacy and private chatlogs/data, don't use it.

Currently having played ~5yrs mostly on console and this was really confusing at first. I had forgotten lan is a thing😂 Almost every console multiplayer game have no problem to join directly your friends😊

few things - it is multiplayer (obviously), and it actually opens to LAN and also portfowards LAN port for you. It's done by uPnP, which usually is (but not always) enabled on your router... if it wouldn't, well, that wouldn't work. Only problem with Essentials mod - you have to be friends to invite people to your world. There are few other mods which does the same thing, hovewer they work much better by giving you IP by which anyone can join.

btw if you portforward the server runs on your own computers resources, meaning that if your playing a game at the same time the servers running you could run into performance issues on your pc.
