I just got a starlet!! At first i didnt really want a starlet and i intended on buying a mr2 sw20 as my first car, but i couldnt find one in good condition for a good price. So i got my grandpa's old starlet for free. After putting on new shock absorbers on it with my dad i realized how much space there is in the engine bay and after seeing videos on youtube about the starlet i have geniunly fallen in love with it. My starlet is totally stock too so it's basically a blank canvas for me to mod. Also i know for sure that i will keep it, at first my intention was to fix the stuff that needed to be fixed and then sell it and for that money buy a mr2, but now im gonna keep the starlet and buy a mr2 later. Also my starlet means a lot to me now because it used to be my grandpa's and he has been dead for a few years now.

Great to see some coverage of a Legend. There was also a GlanzaS that used the 5EFE engine (1.5L NA) you could tell them apart due to the bonnet scoop being closed. The 4EFTE (glanzaV engine) is masterpiece with the head being designed by Yamaha. Here in Malta with a 4EFTE powered GT Turbo (pre glanza model) we hold I believe the world record for quarter mile running into the 9's by Zisco Pro racing

I know it was a brief mention, but you do realize the Echo got the shit end of the stick in North America, right? Everything about this Starlet, the same is true of the Echo. This Starlet is a modified JDM that North America never saw, a car sharing its roots with the Paseo and Tercel. Meanwhile, the Echo did have its hatchback cousin over in Japan with turbo, suspension, brake, and interior improvements-- the Vitz RS Turbo (150hp 1.5L and a bit under 2,200lbs). Shitbox as the Echo was, the same potential is there for it as the Starlet you're driving. Unlike the Tercel and Paseo, the Echo does have plenty of bolt-on upgrades from Scion that Toyota held back from the Echo, such as a beefier loaded rear beam, the sport seats (seen in the Canadian Echo RS hatch, which again, didn't get anything aside from seats and visual flare), gearing, even changes in intake sizes and some added bracing. The transmissions can also be swapped out, taking the Echo from a 3.53:1 final drive to as low as a 4.31:1 (though for liveability at freeway speeds, I wouldn't recommend it). Yes it was a very awkward car and there's no fixing that, but the 1NZ-FE was running against cars a class up from it, and even after the Echo ceased production, it took a decade for any subcompact to be substantially quicker. The problem was they didn't give the chassis any attention, but the engine was strong for its light weight. I'm not even talking about the Vitz RS Turbo, just the plain old vanilla econobox. They felt tall and tippy, but they would still surprise many reviewers while sitting on horrible 175/65r14 s-rated econo trash. Given some attention, Echoes can (and do) plenty. I suggest you look up some Echoes and Vitz's to see what people have been doing. Enthusiasts exist for them indeed.
