First off, congrats on the 99 games finished. Gamer dad here, I've been keeping track of the games I finish since I was a kid. (Still have the original notebook where I started tracking, now that's some old paper). In the last 5 years (2019-today) I've finished 265 games. Now, that's an apples to oranges comparison to you, since my kids are teenagers. So, I looked back at when my first was born and looked at those 5 years. I finished 114 in that 5 year span. So new parents, the hobby does get better once they grow up a little.

99 games in five years; very impressive feat. I'm not a parent and I don't think I've done it. The way I play is very different from yours though; I don't play games in order to beat them, but having as much playtime (If I'm having fun of course) which is why I grind like crazy in JRPGs and get to the end of the game in crazy levels (I've beaten Xenoblade 3 at level 97 heh)

What a great idea! I became a parent almost 3 years ago. You've got me wanting to go back and count how many I've beaten since becoming a dad. I'd probably ball park it around 30 or so. Until recently I never focused on my games and I bounced hobbies a lot. When my son was born I found myself focusing solely on gaming for whatever reason.

I didn't play Rebirth, but I think Crisis Core did what it needed to do: expand Zack's story on the things we knew from PS1 FF7. In terms of gameplay I also find it amazing due to the Materia fusing and creating gear and abilities in such fun way which is what I want RPGs to do- let me form my strategies in such a wide method.

not sure about last 5 years but last two years is 36 total games finished at the very least but more are 100% completed than just finished. So far 2 games this year to make the total 38. I plan to game more this year than last year since I have the Switch OLED now and am getting the Playstation Portal next month (I preordered the midnight black one). I find gaming before bed with a handheld gets me to actually finish games which I hadn't thought of until watching your channel.

That was a fun list to watch. It reminded me that I need to stop downloading demos for Square games, absolutely adoring them, buying the games and never getting around to playing them (Harvestella, Triangle Strategy, Star Ocean 2 and Star Ocean 6 in this case) I also loved some of the some "hot takes" in there. Some standouts for me being Fire Emblem and Pokemon. It's fun to see someone else ranking Engage (my 2nd or 3rd favorite game in the series) way higher than Three Houses (the only officially translated Fire Emblem I couldn't even finish the last time I tried). Seeing Brillant Diamond this high is surprising. I do agree it's not nearly as bad as a lot of people say but I'd have a hard time putting it next to some of those games in S tier. D tier for Sword/Shield is also surprising but that might be because my last memory of that game is having a ton of fun with the Dynamax Adventures in the second DLC. edit : I completely agree for Scarlet/Violet and Arceus.

I'm at 90 games completed in the last 5 years. And some which I couldn't complete because I sucked too much. I do tend to be a bit of a completionist, so I try to do all sidequests and get as many achievements or trophies as possible, so I tend to need a lot of time per game. Plus I'm also really slow apparently. It's super impressive you managed to beat 99 of them though! I'm not a parent so I have a bit more time to play games than other people might have. Usually comes down to 2 hours per day and a bit more in weekends. Really nice to see which games you've played. And let's just say we agree to disagree on the rankings.

Around 2018ish, I came back from England and I managed to beat 3 games at my cousin's house while all the marriage stuff was going on and when I came back I started my HowlongtoBeat account and was able to beat a game every 1-3 days and since then I managed to beat around 1,277 games. I will admit, I do have a lot of free time but seeing how people spend their free time ranting on social media and making their own self indulgent wrestling promos and trying to prove their favorite games and media is the best for some vague battle for supremacy, I think the fact that I don't do those things is how I was able to beat over 1,000 games at all. I would make a tier list but it'd be way too big. Many of the games you listed I haven't even played, some of the rankings I don't agree with but its fine.

I just finished beating both DKC Returns HD & DK Tropical Freeze. In both games I unlocked the extra World. Returns is better. Simply because it has 0 water levels in it. Also in Returns HD you can skip cut scenes. In Tropical Freeze for whatever reason you can't. I suggest when you do play DKC Returns HD, just do the bare minimum, beat the levels & move on. You should play it on easy mode & get the aids needed to beat harder level & bosses. Don't even bother getting all the Kong Letters & puzzle pieces or unlocking the extra World because you'll probably be screaming & throwing your controller at the tv screen. Now if you want a good DKC game where the challenge is fair & bit hard, I suggest you play the ones on the Snes DCK 1 & 2 as they are way better games. Good Luck.

I need to play Bug Fable, Cosmic Star Heroine was a nice surprise, FFXVI is the worst FF, Grandia is definitely S tier, all Yakuza games are S tier 😁, Thousand Year Door 👌, Persona 5 10/10, Tactica is a C for me too, Sea of Stars A tier for me, and I just can't get into Xenoblade at all 🤷‍♂️ don't judge me 😂

99 games in 5 years. Yeah that's about 20 games a year. I am in your ball park. It makes sense that you are going to be playing more games now since you are at home. Any hour counts even if it's 2. They add up a lot. I am so glad you like Super Mario World over Super Mario Wonder. I've played a lot of 2D Mario games. Super Mario World is the best Mario game I have played. Just because it introduces so many new things like, Yoshi, different mini bosses, secrets, The boo Ghost houses etc. The final Bowser boss I think is one of the best bosses or main bosses in a Mario video game. The best thing about Super Mario World is that the secrets & getting more things in it to 100% the game is optional. Where as the new Mario games on Modern systems like Super Mario 3D World & Super Mario Wonder, they force you to get Star coins to unlock a level you need to beat. It's really annoying cuz I always have to look up youtube, Example Super Mario World 3D Level 3-2 Star coins cuz I am always missing a lot of them, where they are in hidden areas. Then they find it, I am like really ok. then do that for the rest. Then if that wasn't bad enough I had to find all the stamps look that up and every character had to go on that flag pole etc. I also beat the hardest secret level in that game. Took me about 500 tries lol. How do you play these 2D Modern games? Do you just get the bare minimum or do you try to get as much as you can in them?

I did not like Persona 5 for the reason you pointed out with it taking so much time “to do stuff”. I put 113 hours into beating it, and I estimated 50 of those hours were watching teenagers texting each other, repeating the SAME THING over and over, and hanging out to each sushi. It had some good points, but they were dragged down by some serious lulls. Overall, I did not like the game, and I put it at number 2 on my top ten most overrated games of all time video a few months ago. (Mario odyssey was number one…that game is AWFUL)

@ good for you on finishing so many games. I beat about 40 games per year myself (mix of long and short), and you and I both know it takes dedication and discipline. I saw your video about how to get through one’s backlog. Great points all around. I made my own video about why so many gamers never finish their games last year. It really comes down to lack of discipline and lack of commitment! People just have to suck it up and do the work!
