Hey everyone! :) This is an old clip from January 2018 that I had originally made unlisted, so a website promoting the Stennis flag could embed it on their website. Now, in July 2020, with the state of Mississippi finally removing the 1894 flag, I'm making this old clip public as I publish a brand new video on the topic, so you can see how this story has changed over the past few years.

The Stennis Flag is better than 85% of state flags (looking at you states that have a seal on a blue background as their flag)

As a Mississippian, I love the Stennis Flag! Sadly, I feel like our state government is going to take the lazy route and slap the state seal on a blue background :(

Thank God it's not a seal on a bedsheet. I like the Stennis flag, but I also like the 2001 redesign which has the same stripes as the "current" flag (I'm calling it that for ease of reference), but has 20 stars on a blue field in the canton: 13 in an outer circle (the colonies), 6 in an inner circle (the Indian tribes that had control over the area, plus the intermediate states), and one bigger one in the middle (Mississippi). Honestly, I'd be okay with either.

The Bonnie Blue, the flag of the West Florida Republic which contained Southern Mississippi, Southern Alabama, and part of the Florida panhandle. I think it may have contained a piece of Louisiana too.

I don't see the point in the change they are removing the Confederate Battle flag, and replacing it with a star in the center of the flag which is symbolic of a Confederate State. So the replacement of one Confederate emblem with another Confederate emblem is okay?

Probably not the way it is. The new law requires the phrase "In God We Trust" to be written on the design.

A lot of people including myself are hesitant with the flag after its name stems from senator John C Stennis: a racist segregationist back in the day. I’m aware that it’s designed by her daughter, but having her as the center of attention in the new flag design without much input from the black community seems a little tone-deaf, which is why I as a progressive don’t support it.
