Maybe you could send that jazz record seller with regrets a bottle of bourbon. He could probably use it. 😃 It's fun to see what the record store owners buy for their collections. Have a great week.

Regarding VMP releases, I LOVE the small booklets, great essays full of information, specially great when talking about semi obscure Soul/Funk records that VMP usually releases.

Me too! I love reading the little books, gets me more into the album and love finding out more info. Always read while I’m doing my first listen and occasionally go back to them. I agree it’s a shame they can cause warps but other than that it’s a nice bonus in my opinion, nicely presented too.

Please keep up this series. It’s super interesting. It would also be cool mention where all of these are sourced (if you can), ie ebay, Discogs, etc. or even to do a series where you go through best Discogs best eBay best private seller purchases you’ve made. Just a thought, but yes please keep these up!

I think that VMP Ornette Coleman is special too (I did a video on it) I read that essay/book. That record is so important it deserves it. The record changed American music so people new to it album have a well written background. THAT SAID - how they ship it with the record maybe could be improved as you said. Don’t want the warps.

Cool to hear more about what you, as a collector, get excited about. I think most subscribers to your channel share your enthusiasm for vinyl (even if, sadly, we don't all have the same resources!).

Nebraska is a great album, even if you're not a huge Springsteen fan. The 2014/15ish reissue around the time of the box sets is very good, i recall they used the plangent process to improve the speed stability, since it was recorded on a portable tape machine. Remastered by Chris Bellman.

People who keep their records sealed should be called cover or jacket collectors. Call me old fashioned, but records are for music and playing. If I ever accumulate something sealed I don’t want I sell it or trade it so someone else can enjoy it and I can find something I’ll actually listen to.

I can see holding onto a sealed record for value. But those people are in it for the money and not for the music if their sole focus is collecting sealed copies. I've seen the same where people buy a sealed video game collection. I wonder what the point is other than looking at the boxes and a speculative investment with plans to sell later.

I have some sealed lps. Many times I double dip and just open one to play. I don't sell the unopened ones. I just keep them just incase one gets damaged.

yeah it also reminds me of people collecting old toys and action figures, where they keep them in the original packaging to maintain the value. Some people collect just for the sake of collecting. I can understand it but as a music fan I do find it somewhat offensive.

I have, by and large, been quite pleased with VMP. While I have grown weary of Bruce over the years -- this is what you sometimes get when you saw someone back in the day -- Nebraska is stellar, much better than the OG, even though he seems overly self-serious at times. Can't wait for Live at the Old Quarter. VMP had a misstep with FTSOTS, an album that Townes disowned, when any other Poppy album would have been welcomed with arms opened wide.

Do you ever buy more current Jazz on vinyl. I see a lot of 60's and earlier Jazz but not a lot from the 90's to now. Like Kenny Garrett, Joshua Redman, Kenny Washington, Akira Tana, Arturo O'Farrill, The Baylor Project etc? It would be cool if ya did.

I bought up the same topic about the 80's and 90's like Garrett, Marsalis, Blakey and others during one of his unboxings and his response was like there was no good Jazz during that time. I thought it was such BS

Yes, An AAA reissue of Birth of Cool would be great to have. Hey Mike a quick question: I love Mono presses but know there is a time frame in the 60s when the Mono that was made was not true Mono and was basically they just compressed the stereo mix into Mono. Typically, what years do we need to avoid buying Mono when they doing this? likewise, what are the early yrs to avoid buying stereo as this was fake stereo? Great video, BTW- the only question that went thru my mind was the price you paid for those lps? Even if you broke it down under 100/over 100/over 250?

Nebraska is the only Bruce Springsteen record I can voluntarily listen to. :) Also, do you have a quadraphonic decoder, ran to separate amps and 3rd, 4th speakers? If there were enough Quad records out there, I'd try it.

I picked up Pat Martino's Baiyina, the OJC version, back when it could be had for $15. It's a fabulous album. Steve Hoffman insists that 99% of the 80's OJCs are all analog (he says he's seen the mastering notes and they only used a digital transfer if the analog tapes were too far gone to use. Sadly the OJC is now $75 and up for the OJC.

Did you even bother comparing the VMP Nebraska to the OG? Seems like the word “digital” turned you off. The VMP pressing uses the same “Plangent” source from the Nebraska in the Springsteen 2014 box. It SMOKES your OG “analog” 1982 pressing.
