Fireworks are banned in Australia and can only be used by qualified licensed companies….there have been too many people injured losing hands, eyes…even killed….the only exception is one night in the Northern Territory..but then people have had severe injuries too.

Fireworks in my childhood were a street affair. We had allotments at the end of our street and the bonfire would be built there. Mothers made toffee and put jacket potatoes around the fire. Fathers were in charge of the fireworks and the children had sparklers. Each household brought buckets of water and sand … just in case! Firework night was always November 5th as decreed by the Act of 1606, regardless of which day it fell on. When formal displays were introduced, it migrated to weekends. Certainly where I live, fireworks at other times of the year really only took off after people wanted them for their millennium parties.
