I would like to add one interesting fact, the swaddling cloths they wrapped the baby Yeshua in were typically used to wrap new born lambs in to keep them blemish free - making them acceptable lambs to be taken to the Temple to be slaughtered for the sacrifice services twice daily. Bethlehem was the main centre where these lambs were bred for this purpose.

That's why the angel told the shepherds, "...And this will be a sign into you; you will find the babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, laying in a manger." They were Temple shepherds, possibly even priestly shepherds. So cool!

“And Jesus went about doing good.” I think pretty much every member of the LDS would disagree with the non sequeter that this is all that can be said about the Nativity story. Rather it is something that the “Light the World” campaign (which the video is a part of) is asking people to do-follow the example of Jesus by doing good. The highest form of worship is imitation.

@ednazurcher and everyone, could that be because they spend more time in the Book Of Mormon which is called another testament of Christ? They should teach the Gospel only because there is no other testament from Jesus. Revelation, the last book of the Bible, is Jesus' last testament. There is no other book to be involved. Rev. 22:18-20; For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. 20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. Therefore, we should read the whole Bible and take God at his word. As a matter of fact, we should be in God's word daily to be reminded of his grace and glory because we are broken and fall short of God's glory, goodness and knowledge.

This is the problem of learning scripture through art. Long before movies, artists were creating their interpretations of The Word and therefore changing it to better fit their time and place. The Nativity has been compressed into one night instead of two stories, one detailing the birth and the other detailing the Magi visit....because you have to get the whole thing in one painting. The numbers of characters are also truncated to fit them into the picture...much like a movie tightens up a novel to have fewer characters and combines characters into one. Finally the story is fitted into the context of the artist himself. An Italian view of the past, not a Judean. The three stars of the winter cross (Orion's belt) are turned into the 3 kings/Magi. So this is one reason that Hebrews rejected graven images to represent God and the patriarchs. Early Christians scoffed at the Roman pagans parading fake images around, making them bleed or squirting milk or flying on cables through the temples. Movies are the same thing.
@petermarshall95132 күн бұрын
Every depiction of the nativity story leaves out two important parts of the story: when Mary and Joseph take Jesus to the temple on the 8th day for his circumcision. First they meet Simeon who was promised that he would not die until he sees the Messiah. Then they meet Anna who prophesies about Jesus. Why these are always left out of the Christmas story is beyond me.

The only part of this that was accurate was traveling in groups and attempting to stay with family. Maybe the help during the birth. But Jesus was born in a shepherd's tower, the tower Migdol, where the lower section would be used for the birth of lambs and the upper for shepherds to watch over the sheep. The shepherds were priests and the sheep were for temple sacrifice. They would be wrapped in swaddling clothes and put in a manger for inspection. When Gabriel told them of Christ, the pattern that was used in how their sheep were cared for would not be lost on them. They understood that the child was born to pay for the sins of the whole world just as the lambs for their sacrifices.

@@dawvidben-huir8101 they were a separate group of people. It wasn't simply the exchange of money that was happening for an unfair exchange. It was also that the people who brought their sacrifices were told that the priests would refuse it and would exchange their animal for theirs with a large fee attached to it and the Sanhedrin, which would be made of a small group of priests, allowed it because those people would pay them to allow it. Pastor Robbins, It seems to me that even if the city was swarming with there relations that they would not know all of them. The Bible says that there were inns there. They needed them for people going through who were not relatives. Rev. 2:6-8, 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. 8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. Don't you think that God would have put it in if there was a woman helping Mary give birth or if they called for a midwife? That woman would have been the first to see baby Jesus. The angels went to the shepherds in the fields and they came and saw and then went around to proclaim his birth. God saw fit to tell us about the shepherds first and not any one else. In other words if it was something God wanted us to know he would have included it in His word.

And yes, Daniel, was given the specific leadership position as "chief" among the wise counselors and Magi in Nebuchuadnezzar's court, ~ 400 years before the birth of Jesus, a position he retained for the duration of Israel's captivity in Babylon. Knowing Daniel's reputation for studying the Scriptures, his oversight and discipline may have had a lasting affect on the following generations of Magi. The book of Daniel is often referred to in the NT Scriptures. I don't think it's coincidence.

This was a good video. And I love the movie because it’s so realistic. But I want people of faith to know that our Savior was not born in a stable, a cave, or even part of a house as was depicted in the movie. Micha 4:8 declares that the future Messiah would be born in the “the tower of the flock,” another name for Migdal Eder. Migdal Eder was an old watch tower very near Bethlehem that had been turned into a nursery for newborn lambs, where they were wrapped in cloths to prevent injury while waiting in mangers to be taken to the Temple in Jerusalem (only 6 miles away) for sacrifice. The shepherds were not ordinary shepherds. They were Temple shepherds who knew the Torah and the prophets. When the angel announced that Messiah had been born and that they would find him wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger, they KNEW exactly where to look, which is why they “ran with haste.”

It is the only church that has temples, a very important part from the religion of the Bible. The only church that believes in the true nature of God and not the trinity that was devised by man. I think you misunderstood the purpose of the scripture, 'Jesus of Nazareth went about doing good" displayed at the end of the movie. It's impossible to tag the entire new testament at the end of the movie. The scripture quote is not meant to diminish the works He did but to invite us to do good as He did. After all, as you said, it's about community.

Please keep in mind too, that it was not December 25th that He was born, that day was adopted by Catholics in Rome who wanted to make the Jewish Jesus more palatable to the pagan Romans and their pantheon of gods...one of which was reported to have been born on December 25. Jeremiah 10 makes it very clear that what Catholics did in this case, adopting pagan ways to worship the one true and living God, was not God's will. He was more likely born on on the feast of Tabernacles in the fall. We know from Scripture He started His 3.5 year ministry when He turned 30 , and we know He died at Passover...so 6 months either way from Passover puts us right at the first day of the feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot in Hebrew).

I've enjoyed and shared the move, "The Christ Child" for 4 or 5 years and appreciate its spirit and its uncommon accuracy. You also laud its accuracy. Yet, you find the need to denounce the movie because it cited Acts 10:38 which addresses part of the Savior's mortal mission: "God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him." If you'd pay attention to that verse, you'd see that it actually addresses your criticisms. You see, He set the example for all of us to constantly be "doing good, and healing all that [are] oppressed..." so that we also can have God with us. It's sad that you couldn't/wouldn't see that -- perhaps because you chose to resent the source of the movie. Brandon, you are better than this.

Ofcourse when Maggie's arrived they met baby Jesus, Joseph and Mary in home. However for Jews every circumcised child is considered as child and not as infant. So considering the fact that Jesus was still infant at the arrival of Maggie's. After Inquiry to Herod they had scriptural information of birth Please as Bethlehem. The star also led them where the baby Jesus was kept. So the most delayed arrival of Maggie's was not more than 3 months Remember that Herod ordered killing of infants only after the departure of Maggie's.

I would add that the earliest time of the magi's arrival would be 40+ days after Jesus' birth. This is because of the 40 days of Mary's purification before Jesus could be presented to the Lord at the Temple.

An excellent explanation for the most part with one glaring error, Joseph was not as young as Mary. - Mary, being at one time a dedicated virgin in the great Temple at Jerusalem, would never have been placed in the care of so young a man, but rather an older and wiser guardian. This more advanced age with Joseph explains why we do not see him years later during Christ's ministry.

Have you ever thought of the gold that was given to Lord Jesus was the gold chain that Daniel had, that Belshazzar gave to him? Was it passed down and the magi’s knew exactly what to do with it? To Whom it belonged to? I wonder what ever happened to it? Does anyone know? And the star? Could it have been the Shekinah glory of God The Father, leading them to Him?

You make a lot of valid points especially the word translated inn means something different. Being unclean from giving birth is scriptural. Animals living in the house at night, also common in poor areas. Crowds of people is a given. Interesting for sure.

Mary was a virgen and remained a virgen. She is the immaculate conception. She did not give birth with pains of labor . The same holy spirit that came over was the same in birth 🙌 This is a Big important piece almost everyone misses . Mary was not random and not just a vessel . Her story starts in Genesis and continues in Revelation. Minimizing Mary diminishes GODS gift of his SON to us all for our salvation.

I understand what you mean considering the message that were doing good. However, I don't think it was intended as if He started being nice to everybody but as in The "good news" (the gospel).

The Nativity Story is also great. I wish they would show us the truth about the Wise Men or Magi. They were rich. They would be traveling with servants and guards. I have a question though. According to this depiction, when does Herod start hunting down all of the boys??

I had developed my own depiction of Jesus' birth over decades of studying the gospel. This movie made those thoughts in Technicolor. This is exactly as I had come to think it was. But when Mary sang the baby her song in Aramaic, I was surprised and struck by the humanity of that moment. And as you said, the wise men could not have been there at the time of the shepherds, and they would not be traveling as a company of three but would be a large entourage for defensive purposes. They were likely coming from Parthia, which only 30 years before had Israel under its control after defeating Mark Antony in a war north of Israel. The fact that Herod did not have them killed immediately would indicate that a state of detente existed between Rome and Parthia, restraining Herod's murderous tendencies. But the moment when these representatives from the east, most likely having heritage back to the scattered tribes of Israel who were removed 800 years previous, presented Jesus these gifts was the moment where I identified with them. To kneel at this saviour for whom you have waited and about whom prophecies were given, and from whom the world finally has hope for the future, would have been and is still an overwhelming experience. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints this film reflects all I have been able to derive from all of the scriptures I have savoured these many year since I joined in my 20s. Thanks for your commentary.

It is written that they went looking for a place to stay and found no room... Luke 2:7 NIV [7] and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

Bethlehem was the ancestral home of both Mary & Joseph as they were both descendants of David.
