And for me as well. To anyone wanting to see a great discussion of the SIGMA fp, I would recommend the KZbin video entitled "SIGMA FP | Deep Dive with Pawel Achtel ACS". In it, Pawel Achtel, a cinematographic professional, compares this tiny sub-$2000 camera, specifically in terms of color accuracy, against industry big names like RED Monstro, Panavision DXL2, Sony Venice, and Arri Alexa LF. Pawel's favorite camera for color reproduction had been the Sony Venice, but his test results showed the SIGMA fp to be more accurate. It is surprising how little attention this little gem of a camera has received.

OLPF(Optical Low Lass Filter) is more for helping your frames not have moiré and false color, that rainbow effect you see on mostly man-made objects like clothes. It blurs the image slightly to remove some of that sharpness and in doing so stops the effect. The one in this camera works fairly well also.

I just bought a BMCC 6k FF after a lot of angst, trying to decide between GH6 (having previously made all my gear choices centred on the GH cameras), Sigma FP and this camera. I was totally sold on it for 2 simple reasons: 1) that image is just sublime, and 2) the BRaw codec with integrated proxies workflow in DaVinci is unbeatable. The GH7 just came out, and I still don't have any regret (though the camera looks awesome). The BM user interface is a joy to use, and I feel it lets you just focus on your image not the camera. The FP image is lovely too, and I'm sure I'd have been happy had I gone that route, but I suspect the user experience and workflow would have had more friction in it. And as for autofocus, I've bought the PDMovie LiveAir3 Smart - it's more compact than the superb but bulky DJI system and does what I need. I'll gradually buy more full frame glass, but my APSC Sigma Art zooms can meantime cover full frame at their longer ends of the zoom range. And I just bought my first full frame anamorphic lens...

Smallrig cage, top handle, Samsung 2TB SSD fitted into top mount, left handle attatched to cage, NPF90 Battery attatched to small rig mount on handle with small cable to port, can turn on and off with little red button. Use one lens Sigma 18-35 with Peters ND filters. All this fits nicely into Shimoda X70 bag. This bag also held my clothes for 2.5 weeks. I was able to compress and make it look small to get onto 5 flights with Ryan air in the upper storage bin. I brought 3 batteries and one day left it turned on most of the day went through 2 batteries and used the 3rd one to charge the Iphones which we used for secondary shots so the entire trip was recorded 2 times. Use a camera strap for lugging around camera and dumped the DJI RS2 as the BMPCC 6K now has gyro stabilization. Filmed the entire trip in 6K. Used same setting from Flo in Of Two Lands and everything came out great! Use Jamie Fenn for learnig Davince Resolve going on a few years now. Thanks Jaimie. I starting a new project creating content for a construction company, so imagine outdoor living spaces, which shows before, during and afters and some talking head. The camera will be constantly moving so Im a little hesitant not having the continuous AF and internal stabilization. Do you see that as an issue for this type of filmmaking?
@JamieFenn9 ай бұрын
Well, it can go both ways and it depends on a lot of factors… let me explain. Auto focus isn’t always the best for everything. It can lock on to different things if you’re walking around in the frame. For talking head if your moving back and forth and putting things up in front of you and you want it to focus on it, then yes autofocus will be your friend 90% of the time. But with fully manual focus you can always make sure you get what you want in focus every time (as long you stay in the proper depth of field). Something I didn’t mention in the video is that you can connect to the camera with three Blackmagic app and monitor things that way. For filming yourself doing daily tasks I find myself putting my Sony cams in manual focus more than not.

Took a loss but whatever no longer needed an external recorder and had all the cine love I needed. I am interested in the best image quality not autofocus or stills and fortunately the BM cameras are about it plus I don't ever just shoot a black scene as I'm a cinematographer and light my subjects even if it's just dimly lit and have no issues with noise. Just got the BMCC 6K FF and it is pretty epical and even an anamorphic 75 to go with it. Now 3 BMPCC 4K's and the 6K FF and wouldn't change a thing!

I am still hoping BM adds PDAF to a new camera. While most Hollywood productions don't use cameras with AF, as an indie/low budget filmmaker I look to AF to help speed up production and save costs. Autofocus can save a lot of time when filming, for obvious reasons. I think even Sony realized this when they released the new Burano camera. If I had $25K to play with, I'd jump on the Burano right away. But, I would love for BM to come out with a camera with AF because I love working with 12-bit BRAW. I had the BMPCC4K, and loved the imagery I captured with it. But, I switched to Sony for the AF power. That being said, I've also looked at the Panasonic S5iix and combining it with a BM Assist monitor to record BRAW to an SSD. I have a feeling that if BM does come out with a camera with AF that it may be 2-3 years before we see it given that the BMCC6K didn't come out that long ago. If BM does develop a camera with AF, I will definitely jump on it.

I had 6k pro. Due to low cost it's built quality is not that good. Plus there are limited options for repair. You can't exchange sensor for example, only buy a new camera. Space it takes...ufff. Youll easily spend that amount of money on ssds, especially if you wanna back your projects up. Customer service here in EU is very limited, people are waiting for months for warranty repairs. I think people need to talk more about that issues, which make the product very hard to consider outside of US. 🙏🏼 The image is great tho, no doubts abt it.

Great camera. Two problems: 1. No Continuous Autofocus. That is a MUST in 2014, no matter if you use it or not. It simply has to be available. 2. No stabilization. Again, it is 2024, every camera and lens simply has to have that option. You may say "I don't need it", but trust me, you do. Thx !

It really comes down to what you're filming. The major mistake one can make is wanting to have open gate to crop for social media. Although is a feature that can hep you it is not a good practice. Vertical content should be shot vertically for several reasons and reframing is a big mistake that will never cut. A least if you or the company you work for are not serious about social network. There is a learning curve when shooting vertical that people tend to avoid but will cost you the quality of your work when it is for social networks that base on vertical video since you did not frame you shot for it. You will always and up with a content that you lose important things and will always feel like that is cutted video. The focal lenght will be wrong all the time you will never be able to tell a story the way you suposed to.

I have the S5II. Color science way worse than the BM. Not only that, it's just 10 bit, you have to make sure you do your WB every time you shoot (otherwise it's much harder to fix in post). Honestly, for me the S5II is good for photos and for quick video stuff but doesn't have the same beautiful filmic look that the BM has. Also, the greens on the S5II are so weird.
@krisangelo7275 ай бұрын
@@madsonit man thank you so much for the well-written reply. i’ve been suffering from indecision.. with the amount of variety and money one can spend in the world of cameras, it’s important to make educated decisions. because of what you said here i’m definitely putting lumix on the back shelf and leaning towards black magic. i only have 2 concerns - the autofocus and the stabilization. i want the filmic quality of the blackmagic, but at the same time, when I go to the world’s end for the shot of my dreams, I want to make sure I get the shot successfully - in focus, and stable enough. its a conflicting.. I also think many of us are frustrated that the pyxis just changed the form factor but recycled the exact same sensor without addressing these same criticisms blackmagic fans have wanted to see improved. i’ve considered even using an fx3 and just putting in the extra hours with dehancer on resolve to get the look i’m going for with not risking having captured unusable footage
@madsonit5 ай бұрын
@@krisangelo727 FX3 is a better choice than the S5II. But the price is more than 2x now. Is it worth it? I think if you build a rig and you learn how to shoot steady handheld you won’t have micro stuttering. Every time I look at some of my Pocket6k footage i feel something. It feels real. Exactly like I remember it. Every time I look at S5II footage it looks like a phone video taken through a good lens. Of course, I’m exaggerating but you get the idea. For me, autofocus and ibis are not as important as beautiful colors and images. Sure, the ibis in lumix is so good. But it’s not worth the compromise. After all, we all shoot a video, and the video is the most important. If it’s a bit shakey… it’s fine.
