"Prairie Fire has tons of aircraft" I don't know if you looked at the Opfor factions but they have a total of 1 Helicopter, the Mi-2, with a bunch of varients for pylon loadouts

Tbf Glob Mob has enough aircraft, it just doesn't have a pointless amount of aircraft it has a cargo plane and a helo with a ton of variants. The germans have two helos and a transport plane again all have lots of variants.

It's funny how from a semi-futuristic game set in 2035, ArmA 3 has gone to a Cold War setting, in 3 years with its CDLC's. Altrought CSLA has some concerns (i believe they will improve it), GlobMob and S.O.G are really great, with some really nice quality content, and some nice new features (last update, GlobMob added a bridgelayer and a tactical nuke, for example). Sad thing is, that a DLC can be as good as it is, most people simply refuse to buy them, because they're paid and there is free mods outhere. Even nowdays, you strugle to find a server hosted in Tanoa for example.

Operation flashpoint started in the cold war, arma 1 continued a similar setting with modern elements, arma 2 expanded that. Then arma 3 went full future due to legal concerns with the Greek government

@@williampaabreeves Honestly one of my biggest gripes with Arma 3 is, even after nearly 3k hours in Arma 3, I still don't know if I like the game setting. Arma 3 had some of the best world building, but I wish they would've just basically turned the RHS mods into a game, instead of doing the whole near-future thing they did.

@@Trve_Kvlt I think everyone prefers the settings based on real life or history. Mainly due to how much real equipment there is out there they could add, compared with the tiny amount they invented specifically for the 2035 setting. When I look at Arma 2 and the amount of stuff in the vanilla compared with the minimal amount in Arma 3. its just not enough stuff

Honestly I love tanoa. But the map has to many bridges, and holy shit when will ai be able to deal with bridges? Especially on modded maps like lingor (my favourite from the arma 2 days) have extreme issues with it. Try to get AI from the top right island to the main island I dare you

the 2035 setting would have been alright if it werent for bohemia copping out and giving the three factions almost the same retextured weapons systems, made even worse with the APEX DLC where the Chinese PLA are using retex'd Russian/iranian stuff instead of getting creative and giving them their own homegrown vehicles (the Y-32 Xian is a good example) the Qlin is just the singaporean LSV MK2, there was alot of missed oppurtunity on bohemias part

One thing people do is use RHS as an arugment in the paid mods debate as an example of a free mod having equal quality to the CDLC's, even though Red Hammer Studios won €200,000 from the make arma not war contest. I also like what GalComT said in the GM AMA: that with the level of quality players demand from mods, it takes that much time to create modded content, that they need income from the mods to make a living. I don't think people understand that the CDLC teams are actually very small, GM has only two main devs who can't spend hours everyday working on content to not earn anything from it.
@williampaabreeves
@williampaabreeves 2 жыл бұрын
On the other hand plenty of people have little money. So spending an amount equal to an entire new game (a reasonably priced one not a AAA waste of space), is not to be taken lightly. "Dont compared to free mods" is a silly argument, that is their competition, if they can't at least match it then they have failed to make a product worthy of the market its trying to compete in. Personally I don't think RHS is that great, constantly have issues with it in tthe gameplay department because they went too hard for realism so body armour is overpowered and vehicles near indestructable
@jacobtierney7449
@jacobtierney7449 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think we do need to compare free mods to the CDLCs, as some sort of basic quality control. Because yeah, no-one likes to waste money on something that is sub-par to a free alternative. I thinks that’s why CSLA has had such a massive backlash. I think another thing that muddies that waters, at least for GM and CSLA is that you can’t see a difference between what the devs were producing for free vs. what they’ve released in the dlc. SOG on the other hand showcased this perfectly as you can see a night and day difference between the quality of Unsung and the SOG assets. My god some of the unsung models look like they were made for Half Life 1 back in 1999. I think that we’ve got to a level now where mod quality has become so high, people at a bare minimum expect much higher quality than previously. While raising the bar is a great thing, it also makes hobby modding much more demanding and less accessible for people who don’t have the time. I think we’re getting to a point where certain levels of financial support may be necessary to allow mod devs to spend more time modding. I like The current system for CDLCs, where BI have some oversight as to the devs intentions, design choices and quality. I would definitely say that GM and SOG are definitely on par, quality wise, as the DLC Bohemia have released themselves. And Bohemia are both developers and publishers now. So for a small team to be able to reach that level, they definitely deserve some financial reward for that.

@@jacobtierney7449 my main problem is the opposite. The quality of things like Unsung, CUP and IFA is good enough I feel. The problem is lack of assets in the CDLCs. Incomplete factions are bad no matter how high quality the things that do exist are. Every faction must have a soldier for each role and a vehicle for each role. For vehicles that list looks something like this: unarmed light vehicle (eg quad bike), unarmed light transport (unarmed car), mg/hmg version of car (optional AT and AA versions), armoured transport (APC), armed armoured transport, truck with all varients (open, covered, medical, repair, ammo, fuel), combat APC/IFV/light tank type vehicle, MBT tank, AA vehicle, artillery vehicle. Small patrol Heli, large transport Heli, attack Heli. Fighter plane, cas/bomber plane, transport/paratrooper plane. And where applicable UAVs both small and large. Also statics, Low and High MGs to the standard size of vanilla ones, AT static, AA static, mortar, artillery

not really tho. As far as i know BI doesn't actually own anything from CDLC's. Just publishes them. Also some things in them are not on current BIS level, not to mention future BIS. Praire Fire is allright, but the Czech one is closer to Arma 2 than 3. Global Mobilisation is good but they made some bad design choices. I'm looking at you PIP periscopes. And their uniforms and infantry equipment are too...tight? its hard to put it in words. Like they're ok, but it all feels so rigid, pressed and minimalistic. They perfectly capture what a thing is supposed to be on paper, but not how it actually looked when a real human being spent a month in combat with it. it feels so...german, made with a ruller. All those perfectly square pouches.
