I bought one from Harbor Freight. Used it to diagnose a multiple misfire code on my truck. I started from the smallest cost solution and cleaned the MAF sensor first and then cleared the code. It hasn't come back, and it's running smooth. I had just installed new spark plugs and I knew that wasn't it. It has all kinds of test you can run plus look at live data. I've even used it when car shopping and it helped me avoid a money pit!

I bought the 5610 two days ago at a O’Reilly’s automotive store and I told the salesman that the box looked like someone used it as it had dirty finger prints on it I got home it had no manual or paper work I hooked it up to our 2006 Equinox and everything looked good then I found my car listed plus a 2014 Equinox and I don’t have a 2014 so I figured this tester is used so I took it back to the store and they didn’t have another so they ordered one from their bigger store who is their supplier. I actually wanted the 5610 v2 model but this used one was a 5610 so on with the story I put it back in the box and I seen a two page pamphlet crunched up at the bottom of the box. So they ordered the new scanner and I picked it up yesterday in said on the box 5610 same model I thought but when I removed it from the box it was the newer version 5610 v2 with a rubber protective case around the scanner plus this had the protective screen cover that you peel off and it had another cord that plugs in the bottom of the scanner a USB cable it also had a fairly thick manual and a case to put everything in. So far I’am happy now. I wasn’t impressed with O’Reilly’s trying to sell me a used scanner at $309.99 September 2024

Bluedriver was a good deal a few years ago, but it’s not very good value these days. I just got a touchscreen tablet Foxwell full systems bidirectional scanner for 137$ delivered. Its capabilities are well above the bluedriver for similar money, and it’s much more convenient to use. One common example - most modern cars have electronic parking brakes that need to be wound back when replacing pads. You need a bidirectional scanner like the foxwell to talk to the car and tell it to put the EPB in service modes. The bluedriver can’t do that. There are manual workarounds, but they’re a hassle and take up more time.

5:00 - "Most mechanics charge close to $200 per hour to work on your car." This is an _inaccurate_ statement! Maybe if you're in Midtown Manhattan or Hollywood, but the national average in Nov of 24 is $75 - $130. Most dealerships don't even approach $200/hr! They average $160. I like Scotty and trust his information _most of the time._ Sometimes, however, he says things that are just wrong, just like many other mechanics. His words at 5:00 are a good, but sad, example.

I know I should keep my mouth shut, but sometimes I just can't help it. This is a run of the mill scan tool. Its only as good as the person using it. The best way to build a youtube channel is by telling people what they want to hear. When you watch one of these videos, he's leaving out the entire diagnostic process. A scan tool can't fix your car, or even tell you what's wrong with it. You start by getting information from the scanner, then you put it down and start your real diag. If your scan tool says your B1S1 O2 sensor is putting out 500mv, what does that tell you?
@audiophileman70474 ай бұрын

Cars weren’t really all that good back then. I remember nailing the gas in a 70s Chevrolet ,while it was raining, the vehicle hesitated & sputtered due to the humidity. Yes, they were simpler but they were nowhere near as good.
@russell43704 ай бұрын
@rodjones812 That's called piss poor maintenance, check out the timing, wires, spark plugs, every car made needs maintenance , doesn't matter what make or model, I've seen 5 year old vehicles at the scrap metal buyers yards, . By the way the wires were probably old, cracked, and absorbed moisture on that rainy day you punched it, which isn't good to do with any vehicle, unless you're building a race car, all this computer driven everything runs the cost up , and when things start breaking, there like an old boat, Break Out Another Thousand, x 2 every month and they all break, and parts wear out, which by the way could be superior quality and should be for the telephone number prices on the sticker, should be military grade, the buyer certainly pays for it, but as you know they contract out to parts makers and always go the cheap way, especially electronic parts, point being is today's vehicles prices are way to high, my first car used I paid 25$ and some work on it , bought a new 1975 Dodge Van for 4,379 $ today there 10 x that price, if young people can't afford a car , that's a problem identified for them holding a job, or jump into the debt trap, then become a good little slave to a vehicle! Not everyone is rich like Scotty ! LoL @ Scotty ~ spend those fun coupons, pretty soon they will only be good to start a campfire with! The world is going backwards instead of forward, easy enough to see, your my age Scotty, a time when a candy bar was 10 cents, head to the casino and have a good time, because you can't take it with you, seen it to many times, a rich guy dies who was frugal and everyone else gets to blow that cash, thee old saying applies # Easy come Easier gone , including family members, presuming your last will and testament is in the place you want it, then they can give it to a new car dealer 😀, LOL , these scan tools should come on the dashboard of every new car, for that car or truck of the same quality , that would bring back shade tree mechanics, I know that is how you learned about vehicles and same goes for me, keep up the good work Scotty, I know you enjoy making videos on one of the top 10 subjects people can use ! - @ Scotty Kilmer 👍🫡

Scott, I'm using something very similar to this, and the repair solutions 2 app w it. I'm very happy with it, but I've outgrown the capability of it. Do you have a suggestion for a lower price scanner that has bidirectional controls?

Isn’t it time for OBD-3. I’m having a hell of a time getting my Cat ready for smog. There needs to be a more sensitive way to check if the Cat is ready than these useless drive cycles. Yes I’m frustrated sorry!

I have had the basic Innova scanner for two years. No problems, thankfully.
