Ive been growing dragon fruit in greenhouses but i see one mistake you made that could help you out a lot and reduce the amount of pest that infiltrate your greenhouse, So i put double Weed Barrier where i set my greenhouses and made sure to put enough metal stakes to keep the Barrier tight and i can proudly say i never seen one slug since i set them up and where i live i get Massive Leopard Slugs that used to get my outside zinnias all the times, but i found how to keep em off any plant, just Wrap Pure copper mesh around the base Trunk on any plant and wrap a 4” inch section, doesn’t have to be too wrapped once or twice will do, just make sure its tight but not too tight where it will damage the Plant, Hope This Help and Love your Channel, Keep up the Good Work!!!

Hi Richard ! Starbucks have coffee grounds everyday..ask people that working in there and they will give you coffee grounds and put in the all your pots ..slugs will go away..they don't like the smell of coffee..and second will be a good fertilizer for your plants..

I've been sprinkling a little iron phosphate and setting it in small containers around the general area if I didn't want it to get watered or on the soil. Had a major snail and slug epidemic this past winter and this stuff worked for me

Nice!! Glad you found a solution. I’ll add iron phosphate to my list to try

we have the same problem in spain, its typical in humid places. Its really easy to destroy and control.

you can use diatomaceous earth arroun the plant to prevent. And products with ferric phosphate to destroy them

Last night i went out to check whats eating my new dragon shoots? Found slugs & snails wandering whole area, i spread slug pellets that I bought from Bunnings ( Australia), hoping to control the pest. Another friend suggested spread saw dust around the plants, slugs n snails hate saw dust. Also read somewhere to spread salt on the ground. Will try the other two remedies as well.

I have seen somewhere that they use copper fencing to deture the slugs a d snales from climbing up the trees and saplings.

Yeah, I use Sluggo Plus, which also takes care of the cutworms that damage my veggie seedlings. It works and is a lot less problematic than conventional pest control chemicals.

That’s what I use - and I am in Slugland -western Washington. They haven’t got to my dragonfruit yet, but they are a big problem on many plants here

OMG there were zero slugs or snails when I moved into the current place in 2017 and my housemate grows or edibles that no one wants to eat except for the rats and squirrels, makes his own compost but in the grossest way (better to purchase at times) and I don't know if it's the compost or the beer making in the basement or if he got them for the chickens to eat but this year we I have seen huge fat slugs in the backyard (where compost, chickens, and his ugly pants are including in the basement. I had brought it to his attention that whatever he is doing is bringing in slugs and will kill his plants (planted in ground, and pots) unless he's feeding them to the chickens (I don't think he was or chickens do not eat slugs). Then I noticed small, thinner, even baby slugs in the front porch where I keep my potted plants. OH hell no 😡 a slug invasion AND some in the house now. I was used to hunting for 🕷️🕷️ (having your face walk across unexpected webs on the daily is annoying at times scary when you see the actual creator is nearby) flies, mosquito 🦟 🦟 fruit flies, anything pest I'll kill you. So yeah I've been stomping away, when they're fat ones that I don't want their juice on my shoes I 🧂🧂. And when it's getting dark you can see our front stairs and porch, backyard wall and basement glitter from the slug trail. When he leaves items on the floor I show him all the slugs gathering on what he left (I thought it might be a slug trap but nope). He does nothing about it until I 🤬 find slugs in my potted plants and indoor plants (yes inside the house). Is he doing it on purpose? Well I know he brought them to the property somehow because I've taken pictures of various items he leaves on a plate on the floor with a gathering of slugs at night and the eventual glitter that comes about from slug mucus. 🤬.

Put a shallow bowl or pie plate flush with the ground and pour in beer. Slugs and snails are attracted to the smell of beer and then drown in it.
@GraftingDragonFruit3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the tip. Never heard of that before
@SaulSP233 ай бұрын
@@Langhorstiness Doing this is not Good Because not only are you killing the Slugs in your area but attracting the Slugs from surrounding areas making the plagues worse in the long run, I Rather Keep the Beer in my Belly because theres other methods for Control that don’t include pesticides or attractants.

Hi do you know why dragon fruits will have a spot where it split open while it is still on the plant? Could it be because it gets too ripe before I pick it?
@GraftingDragonFruit3 ай бұрын
Hi Sandy, yes it could be too ripe or the heat causing it to burst before it's ready.
