I would like to have some fidgets, so a sleeve in which you can bring some pre cut Mini Origami paper would be one of my add ons. Also, love the format of making it yourself. I have a corner rounding punch and the use of hole punches in different sizes, Liked your troubleshooting and the use of thinner elastic. What you recreated with your paper phone is very sim8lar to somethkng, wise people have done as early as the rennessance, it is called commonplace book and was around for so long, that your naming threw me off track a little. Paper phone is such a good idea to reach younger audiences, though. I have used an A5 version before, and did not know about the movement of bullet journalling or all the other forms of note taking. It only shows, that good working systems get to the right people one way or another.

@eastofawesome - I love & support your idea of PaperPhone! My PaperPhone is scrap paper held together with a binder clip 😝 I’ve always loved ‘salvaging’ scrap paper, so I keep a stack smallest to largest (usually a half sheet). I like the idea of puzzle apps. I’m partial to word finds & jumbles. Also an address book/contacts. I have formatted a shopping list that I print on both sides of a piece of paper such that I get 4 lists per sheet. The list is made of two columns separated into categories. I circle the item I need or write in the specific item. Thanks for sharing this! I’ll keep following this project 🤗

I have my bookshelves of journals from the last 20+ years. The phones I once had are long ago turned into useless junk on a scrap heap somewhere. PS, I write everything sequencially. The curating comes from the way I label each entry: a box with an icon inside. When when the book is full I make an index system by category. All the journals I stitch-bind and make hardcovers for. So it's better than what you buy. Also, I'm 'allergic' to lined pages. So I can choose the paper I want. Sketchbooks obviously different paper than the journal pages. So glad there are people like you bringing awareness to the lost habit of tactile writing .
@eastofawesome

@iune8165
@iune8165 18 күн бұрын
wow, I'd love to see how your system works too. So when the book is full do you tear the page and make a separate journal for each "icon"/category ?
@kenneth1767
@kenneth1767 17 күн бұрын
@@iune8165 I keep the books intact. Very often I write not knowing where the thoughts will lead, and after the writing I then can categorize it with an icon according to its subject matter or purpose. I later make a reference of the diverse subjects written about by the entries in the index on the last few pages of the journal with page numbers. I have learned over the years that this really helps to organize our 'random thoughts' and a structure of our thoughtscape begins to emerge. So let's say the subject is Aphorisms, in the back index I compile under the Aphorisms icon all the page numbers in the journal where I wrote an aphorism. I like to keep my writing as a sequencial record, because memories also trigger where I can later find certain thoughts. The curating of these entries will come at the end of each book when I make this index system. I've found that over the years I've developed specific categories which are represented by icons inside a square. For example Business Ideas are represented by the "💵" icon, epiphany represented by "⭐", something I heard as "💬", chapter or book ideas as "📖", questions I have "Q", etc. Keep the icons simple. I also name each journal, and give it a number equal to my age, so my present journal is Bleu55, and this helps in later cross-referencing where I can say "refer to Bleu55 pg 251" This system of journaling, developed because I used to travel alot and needed everything in one book. I hope this helps.

Welcome to life with less algorithm control. Think with your head, write with your own hand, archive manually. Forget battery life and power outages. Learn to structure information on paper. Thanks for the good tips...
@eastofawesome
@eastofawesome Ай бұрын
yes man! I think the part of archiving is the one where I lack the most. Hard to find something that you noted down in some notebook sometines a few years ago ... Do you nave any specific tips on that front?

@erkkikarvinen1783 Ай бұрын
I don't know if it's the best way, but I use the Cornel page as a base. In the larger column on the right, I write everything that comes to mind. In the left column, I put keywords that describe or summarize the idea. It is easier to browse individual keywords than to read all the articles later.
@erkkikarvinen1783
@erkkikarvinen1783 Ай бұрын
@@eastofawesome It is important and easier if you also define which category the matter belongs to. My whole philosophy is based on the same as the army's carrying system for the individual soldier. There is a big backpack with everything a man needs. It also has a patrol backpack for day patrolling and smaller pockets for various items. Notes work the other way around, they consist of a small to a larger whole. Starting with post it notes, pocket notebook 14 x 10 cm, A5 folder with annual calendar + different categories (6 tabs), year's summary in A4 folder.
@jillymonson

YOU are the app. Also, I love the tinker space you have. Appreciating that it's not a stripped down minimalist "clean" (ie empty) space; it's let's put our hands on stuff space.
@erkkikarvinen1783
@erkkikarvinen1783 Ай бұрын
It is good to remember that most of the notes belong to the lived life, which you will never need after that day, moment, month or even year. That's why I don't carry my past life with me every day, but if necessary, I search for individualized information from the basic archive according to keywords and category. It frees me to live in this day and my mind remains open to new creative thoughts... 🤔

This is a marvelous video! It's like the algorithm read my mind and plopped it in my feed! As a programmer who started her career a little over 50 years ago, returning to analogue roots is a godsend and, I believe, the future. The past couple of months I've delved into origami creating cases for my eight-sheet make-shift notebooks that have sort of been my diary the past 25 years. Your adaptable Paper Phone would make my note taking very portable. This was great! I especially like the credit card idea! That option I'm definitely going to put in my go at your Paper Phone. Thank you SO MUCH! Sure, sign me up as a PP crafter/creator! ❤

Having separate 'apps' really struck a chord with me. With bullet journals, I have a hard time navigating them and finding things I've written down previously. Also having the flexibility to restructure the order and volume of the sections works well with adjusting to the new workflow. Thank you for making this video and inspiring us to write our stuff down more often. ❤

As someone who has been stuck in the cycle of buying a new planner each year and getting the next big TN cover, it is so nice to see someone else go analogue and build their own notebook system from scratch. I think I would upgrade with a pre-printed monthly app as you call it and maybe also a shopping list/wish list section, because writing down a wish is almost as nice as actually getting something 🙃 Thank you very much for sharing this and can’t wait to see what you come up with next for your paper phone!

Whenever I look at artists and look at their content, I am always amazed and appreciate their talent, but I can honestly say that none so far own your peculiar brand of aesthetic that resonates SO closely to my own. Not that I produce this quality of aesthetics, I am just saying it resonates deeply with what I love to see and what inspires me greatly. Always tried to put a name to this genre, but never quite did. Artisan craft fusion is one I recently stumbled on and it seems to be adequate. Anyway, I will stop gushing now, but just wanted to say keep it up, I love the idea of the PaperPhone and you can be sure I will be crafting one myself! I will be looking into ordering your zines as well. Thank you for what you do!

My current Ideas ~colour swap style pen and mechanical pencil ~Settings gear made from cardboard that simply moves a hidden conveyor and pops out the hidden divider with title to grab the section you want easier. ~pop out stand on the back for hands free reading. ~ Calculator, Multiplication table and Math conversions along with a reminder for the quick Egyptian math method on how to, You could also include a cardboard abacus ~Privacy mode using invisible ink to write notes and a reveal screen ~ Zoom and light function with a flat Fresnel lens with compass with a ruler on the edge and LED light or Strontium aluminate panel (crystal that glows in the dark recharges by sunlight. Electricity free. lasts the night.) or both. ~Iris for measuring circles and holes in shop work but is also good for artists to get perfect circles when drawing in a compact way ~Copy, paste section by using press paper (when writing a note you peel it to reveal a one off second copy to share which is paper normally used for invoices. There is also a special type of paper used in old portable printing presses that needs a roller and ink to copy continuously) ~Trash-bin section for holding onto garbage papers until disposed of properly or used for something else like origami. ~Video shorts section which is just a classic sliding animation frame viewer 😆 ~Camping, Bush-craft, Hunting, Fishing, Foraging, Cordage and Knots book with flint and steel panel ~Book box case ~Ok maybe a multi pen and pencil holder for an option. ~disposable blade with compact flat handle with fold away scissors function (swaps between knife and scissors functions) ~Sewing kit page ~Analog Clock embedded into the cover which could be swapped into the current use book or just embedded into the book box case or just make a sleeve for all books with a clock I've realised I could just keep going so I will stop here. Many of these are just thinking back to my childhood and throwing a twist on some of them for modern function and some are new ideas like the light crystal which came out around 2010. One thing I used to practice as a kid was tiny writing through a magnifying glass. It was a challenge but it was fun in a way. It's a practical use of space for something like this as well. Best use mechanical pencils for this and fine point pens.

I've been devoping something like this, I really want to work with some people in developing it. I'm using blank playing cards that I can re-use. Everything is organized between the main "deck" case, a 3 ring binder with 9-slot card sleeves for a perpetual calendar, and a card box to organize project information. It's a productivity/note taking system that has inherent mutual compatability with anyone else who uses the blank card system. This may be more like a "phone", and in a sense you can create programs that run within the system (through functions) as well as add extensions (like the "perpetual calendar". Anyone want to work on this? I'm planning on someday just writing out the documentation and releasing it as something like an open source thing.....

I’m going out right now to buy some ice cream. May have to get various types to find the best. After I finish the ice cream, I’m going out for a turkey. P.S. You don’t have to rip. Just choose the direction, if there is one, that bends the easiest. That’s the grain.

This is such a fun video and project! Thank you for sharing and for including your beautiful cat :3 I wondered why you made a seperate stamp instead of directly stamping the leather? I've done some leather stamping before and it looks really sleek on a notebook project like this.

Yeah, we all know that the cats are the stars here … ✌️ As this is not real leather but a sheet of cork on top of some fabric most leather engraving/carving techniques would not have worked in this case. Or is it something different that you mean?

Hey Daniel, thank you very much for the order! From your username I can quite confidently guess the correct order and confirm that I have send out the physical copy the day following your order. Download links to the digital copy are in both the confirmation email and the „completed“ mail that where sent to the email you provided during the checkout. If you did not get them perhaps check your spam folder or send me a mail and I will send them out to you again.

I want to see this dude make a "paper TV", and then it be just a hipster paper craft box that you cram random stuff into while it has zero fundamental functions of a television set. You know just like what a phone is fundamentally about is there in the name; it does things with sound, preferably transmits sound over distances sound wouldn't otherwise travel at given that the full word is "telephone".

I think the paper tv could be books and news paper
@AnEntropyFan
@AnEntropyFan 11 күн бұрын
@@srob6168 It certainly could be, but what I was getting at is the clickbait nature of this video; where the thing isn't actually analogous to the main function at all. Writing is a decent analogy for television (not the least because television came from its lineage), someone has converted an impression of other senses to text to easily transmit them at a distance and then your mind is reconstructing some interpretation of the original, say, visual and auditory experience/story. Had the title been "This Notebook System is Better Than Your PDA" it might even be accurate, but chances are you're thinking "what's a PDA?" and 2 out of a sum total of 4 people with PDAs in 2024 would click on it.

i don’t know how to replace basically anything that i use my phone for.. i mainly use it for communication, so texts and calls. also navigation is very important because i get lost literally everywhere i go. and instagram because i need it for my job. everything else takes place on specific devices, i made an ipod out of an old iphone 5c, reading is from a tolino, all note taking, planning etc. is happening in physical notebooks, video content runs on my ipad and for general navigating the web i use my macbook, because i just can’t use my phone for extended periods of time, it’s very uncomfortable to me.

Ik reading books is technically better, but for an entertaining thing that might stick better for the fun factor I would recommend an iPod (or any mp3 player) or a DS or any retro console you like! Maybe 3DS is pushing it but anything DS era and before are dumb enough to retain only what you want, as many games as you want (that won't chuck you on a rabbit hole quite like phones do, as you will eventually get bored almost guaranteed) with no extra distractions and time sinks like ads or notifications! Heck, you can keep already completed game saves like Pokemon just to do a lil bit of grinding or shiny hunting here and there to pass 5-10 minute waits at bus stops, at a friend's work place and any other ackward bits of time that, for me, are too short to truly endulge in deep comprehension of what I read, and need to stay aware of the passing of time or awarness of my environment thus kinda ruling out sketching for me. Or if you want to go full analog, a pack of cards or mini Tarot cards, or worldbuild for a DnD campign! But entirely just a me thing, I got too many hobbies I could easily cram here haha!
