Love that he was inspired by the local historic architecture in this region of England. Fitting also that “tile” was so celebrated in its design; seeing as carved and decorative hung tile is commonplace on buildings throughout the South-East (Kent, Sussex and Surrey).

I had never seen one as a kid, but I used to constantly draw & design round houses I wanted to live in from about age 6 or 7. I've always wanted a house with a turret/ tower room, because I figured that would be the closest I could get. I have no idea why YT just threw this at me, because I don't really want this kind of video, but this is amazing!!

My grandmother lived in a late 19th century house that had a 20 foot ceiling in her parlor and I never saw anything that needed cleaning up there. High ceilings were common in the South because the cooler air settled near the floor. The homes of that era were built on piers because the water table is too high for a basement and there is no such thing as ground frost. The underside of the house was used to store beer/root beer because it was cool. This also kept the floor cool. Bedrooms had transoms above the door and the windows were double sashed to allow warmer air to exit and cooler air to be contained in the room. More elegant homes had a cupola to allow the hot air to escape.

What's the heating system?
@danielebrparish4271
@danielebrparish4271 2 жыл бұрын
Don't know but the best would be radiant heating of the floor which is becoming popular in the Rocky Mountain Region. They run Pex tubing which is very inexpensive, then pour concrete for the floor. The water can be heated by solar panels and stored in a tank for circulation or it can be heated by a gas fired water heater. Some people use that system to keep the garage apron and sidewalk free of snow and ice in the winter. There is a valve manifold that allows the homeowner to direct the flow of water to different areas of the home including the garage.

Why? It didn't mention insulation, or building materials in this way-too-short video. There are dozens of ways to make sure that's not the case, and new housing regulations that require energy efficiency anyway. Growing up in an old Victorian house was never warm. This looked way cozier.
@danielebrparish4271

Notice the skylight on the roof that can be opened to circulate the hot air out as the cool air enters through the windows opened at the lower level. You can see how it was done in old movies that had transoms above the doors and windows that dropped close to the floor. The windows opened from the bottom and the inrushing air pushed the warm air through the transom.
