A word to the wise on the linear shower drain. We installed one similar (or maybe the exact same linear drain) as the one you showed. (1) linear shower drains are originally for large format tile. Because larger tile (say 12" x 24" or larger), can not "bend" to fit slopes to a small drain, the linear drain was created. If you have large format tile, make sure to use a linear drain, and size it to fit the width of the shower - your tile guy will get a much better job that way. (2) We chose a drain "grill" or "cover" with the linear bars like the drain you show. I thought the linear bars looked beautiful, and they are. But, those bars are a "magnet" for hair. We have to clean the linear drain out every 4 to 6 weeks of daily use. Easier to keep clean would be the drain cover made up of a single sheet of perforated stainless steel.

My very first thought on that drain was how is that going to be kept clean. I wouldn’t choose it for that reason.

That boiler will be broken down in two years. The high efficiency boilers require 3x the maintenance as a standard boiler.

The only original thing left in the house was the chimney, and they just had to wreck that, too. If they had replaced the brick with some new plastic "high efficency" eco-material that will fail in 3 years, it would've been perfect.

If you follow period correct moldings and mantels? Like with Brent Hull? Then the chunk of wood as a mantel is not period correct unless your recreating the 80’s and 90’s ? Yes I am a finish carpenter and hv done them at customers request but this seems or was supposed to be more affluent designs in this house? I thought ?

2:02 Hoo man. That 6x6 #6 mesh laying flat on the ground under the poured concrete with the guys walking on it tromping it down into the closed cell foam just to make sure that it adds absolutely no strength to the slab is kind of no bueno. Kind of surprised that you’d leave that in the edit for the episode.

In the last 6 months, Ive bid 4 linear drains and every single time, people have decided NOT to go with them after some thought.....expense and cleaning issues are common reasons. Midwestern sensibilities I guess. Been awhile since I've seen a copper pan

#1- I don't wear harnesses...#2- I have been using ice & water membranes for 30 years or more, this is a tight, tight system...most guys won't use them cuz they are lazy & cheap...#3- at 65 I still like to learn...I can always glean something from these guys. Before I get put in the ground, I'd love to work w them on a project...may be my one & only bucket list

Water in water out shower floor? For years know the rest of the building industry has been pitching the subfloor towards the drain prior to pan liner installation! Copper pans do not conform to a funnel like prepitch. Company and Portland cement do not well together. Copper pans are normally installed with a cast iron shower drain body. Plastic drain body assembly are not normal installed with a metal pan! The copper should be protected from the Portland cement by Appling a protective coating directly to the copper.
