The multi-angled roof has been framed. Kevin O’Connor and Tom Silva install a new remote-controlled skylight. Richard and Charlie meet with HVAC contractor James Bouchard to talk about the mini duct system going in the house. Kevin visits homeowner Megan's mother Fran in her shop where she's making a glass mosaic outdoor dining table. Tommy and Charlie replace a portion of the wood gutters that have rotted.

Wooden gutters just sound like the most unnecessarily high maintenance thing ever

An option is to re-cast them in fiberglass and paint. Same look, little maintenance

People frequently become so obsessed with authenticity that they don’t consider the long term implications of neglected maintenance. Imagine not only cleaning your gutters but also having to oil them annually and probably paint them every 2-3 years.

That complex set of roof angles in the back is a ridiculous design. Ice dams waiting to happen in general and bonus bc that valley is over the open ceiling room which, no matter how well insulated, will warm that roof

He cut away a thickness equal to the thickness of the lead sheet. The clear silicone doesn't show up all that well on camera, but it wold be filling any other gaps so the bottom surface of the channel is smooth. What is really important for wood gutters is pitch. There will always be a little water trapped in a few places. As long as you have proper pitch and keep them reasonably clean you won't have a large amount of standing water that takes days or weeks to evaporate.
