In the Love God episode, Alex wanted to add two ladies falling in love but it wasn't allowed, so they added Mabel using a pride sweater.

For episode 9, the creator Alex Hirsch wanted to depict two old ladies falling in love, as well as the love god's necklace to be the symbol of trans people, but disney forced him to change it, but he still managed to sneak in the pride flag in the form of Mabel's sweater.

Some trivia: Blind Ivan's tattoos are based on Phrenology maps. A (defunct) idea that different parts of the brain correspond to different skills and thus the shape of your head could determine different mental traits. Additionally, the journal page detailing the Blind Eye has an entry written in "Author's symbol" which reads "If my suspicions are correct, this is the work of Fiddleford. I am an only child actually. But I totally freaked when I saw that 1st episode due to the fact McGuttet was so smart, crazy, and kept appearing I always thought he was the author who lost his memory. Even though I was a little off I was so close that I really really loved that episode!

Codes are hidden all throughout the show (usually in the end credits, with a key somewhere in the episode) or reversed speech (end of opening credits, the Flavor Püp in Mabel's hallucination). When McGucket was babbling at Day ???, he said YROO XRKSVI GIRZMTOV. This is an encoding where, if you split the alphabet in half, each letter is replaced with the letter in the same position from the other side -- A Z, B Y, and so on. So, what he said was "BILL CIPHER TRIANGLE", which makes him framing his eye with a triangle before the memories stop make more sense.

I always saw McGucket's degradation in this episode as a form of substance abuse. His mind degraded as he sought ways to forget more and more. It's tragic, but the end of it is hopeful when he saw what he was and realized he could start repairing himself. It's never too late to pull your life together and make better choices.

There's actually a theory that Stan is secretly Soos' father and that's why he couldn't show up to the birthday parties and instantly hired him. I don't know if I would subscribe to that theory, but is an interesting idea.
