It's not my favorite era of Spider-Man, but it is the one I grew up with. In fact, it's nice that I can now read some of those stories in full as I never had every issue to each multiparter. Like the Spider Slayer one. I had the concluding issue with Smythe, but never the rest of the story. I had the Electro story, the ones with Darkhawrk and the New Warriors, Carnage's first appearance, etc. It's also nice that they are finally continuing where they left off in the Larsen Omni. Hopefully Volume 2 leads into the Clone Saga omnibuses. Now what would have been cool is if it came with a recreated hologram cover (and I mean the actual hologram, not an image of what it kind of looked like).

Lobo's cool and all, and I read some of it, but I kind of feel like with that material, you're better off just reading a storyline here and there, because it does get repetitive after a while and there aren't any recurring subplots or any kind of continuity. I was actually thinking the other day that it is just like Beavis and Butthead, except that it's just one guy and he's not a complete moron. Also got the Spider-Man omnibus and also owned a lot of these issues as a kid. I'm kind of picky with my Spider-Man content. Some of the 70s stories are good, like Death of Gwen Stacy, and I'm good with everything from Kraven's Last Hunt to the end of the clone saga, and otherwise I'm probably not interested. All the stuff that came afterwards just sounds like stuff I'm not that interested in or character assassination. Superior Spider-Man was great, though. I tried reading some mid-80s spider-Man by Tom Defalco and wasn't into the stories for the most part and hated how he wrote Aunt May, though 259 with Mary Jane's origins was good. This omnibus right here is probably the best Spider-Man stuff, in my opinion.

I've collected all those Lobo issues (or most) through other newish reprints, kinda like with the Kyle Rayner compendium that came out, already collected those haha. It makes it hard to buy them when they discontinue the previous sets.

I was so excited to get the Michelinie/Bagley omnibus, and I'm still really happy with it, but I think I MIGHT have gotten the standard cover instead of the DM if I could go back in time. I mean, I like that art on the DM, but I don't like how it's "letterboxed" on the cover, I guess. I still kinda like how it sorta matches the Spider-Man vs Venom reprint DM by being similar and not the same ( _I'm aware it's the same exact image on the hardback under the dustjacket, but if my book's on the shelf, it's gonna have the DJ on it_ ). Bagley and Larsen have always been my favorite Spider-Man artists. Just never really been that big a McFarlane fan. Gotta get back to reading this book, haven't gotten to that hologram article yet. That looks super interesting to me, lol. Man! Those old posters are awesome! I especially like the Leonardi Spider-Man/S-Man2099 one.

I bought the Michelinie Bagley omnibus and it’s ok. Nothing groundbreaking. Action packed and fun. The highlights for me are the stories featuring Venom and Carnage, Round Robin and the I remember Gwen story on the 30th anniversary issue. Are those Lobo stories any good? I’ve never read anything on that character. Looks interesting.

Confession/hot take...I hate Mark Bagley's art. At the time all this stuff was being published, I thought Larsen was a poor man's Todd McFarlane, Bagley was a poor man's Larsen. I really just don't know what people like about Bagley. All of his figures look gangly. Here in the modern era where they can go over what he's done with a gigantic coat of digital coloring, some of his faults can be papered over. But for his early work (the art in this omnibus) there's nothing to focus on except his awkwardly drawn figures and lack of backgrounds.
