Nathan MacKinnon is on top of the hockey world, but it was a long & hard climb to get there. In this video, we look at the one change MacKinnon made to his game to become the superstar he his today.
This video is also sponsored by Hockey Helps The Homeless. A not-for-profit hockey charity with over 20,000 donors, 3,000 players, and 1,000 volunteers that participates annually, and together, we “play with purpose.” Since 1996, HHTH has granted over $21 million to face-off against homelessness.

i think mackinnon seeking a sports physiologist and mental therapy sets a really positive precedent for current and future nhl players! the nhl as a whole, imo, neglects the needs of players because there is still this old-age view that players (or just young men in general) can just "power through" on their own. i think encouraging players to seek mental help can really boost positivity and overall, morale. if mackinnon, one of the greatest players right now in the league, can seek mental help, then other players can recognize that they too can get help without feeling ashamed or discouraged. great video!

The mindset thing is what MacKinnon has that I think Matthews lacks. The obsession, the urgency. It rubbed off on the rest of the team, and payed off. You look at the leafs, and they're taking it easy. They know they're one of the most talented teams, so they think they can get by coasting even though they haven't won sh!t.

Leafs problem is not Matthews. The Leafs suck because they thought they could afford to sign Tavares and now they're paying the price every year because of it. They lack the depth to go deep in the playoffs. Imagine if they kept Kadri and improved their defense instead of signing Tavares.

I hope he ends up in the Hall of Fame. He likely will. Top 3 all time in playoff points per game, and gets 90+ points per season since 2018. He just needs at least one solid award, Hart, Richard, Art Ross, or Conn Smythe. #GoAvsGo

Mackinon is a huge goat, and it feels awful to hear he hadn’t had confidence in himself. He’s a good kid, team leader, funny guy, and a goat on the ice. He’s by far up there on top 3 players of NHL!

The craziest thing about this is the fact that Mack is still probably the most underrated player in the league. The way this dude transformed the Avs cannot be understated. I mean yeah, some players put up more points, but I don't think they have have an impact on a game like Mack does.

Most of Mackinnon's shots were wrist shots. Wrist shot: The puck starts on the stick momentum comes from pushing the puck and turning the wrists. Snap shot: blade starts a small distance behind the puck on the ice and momentum is created by bending the stick on the ice. Slap shot stick starts off the ice and momentum also created by bending the stick on the ice.

As an Avs fan, I to was surprised at how poor he performed really on. I told a friend, who thought the Avs should draft Seth Jones instead, that Nate was a 40 goal scorer. If he can stay healthy for an entire season, something he hasn't had in the past few years, he'll easily get 40 and 100pts plus. His skating ability, Wicked shot and his hockey IQ just had to come together at some point. The fact he struggled and overcame is all the more inspiring.

This reminds me of Mark Scheifele, he’s no Mackinnon but he’s an elite player with a losers mentality. He could score 40+ and help the team win, but when the going gets tough he folds. So frustrating to see a team and player constantly punch below their weight.

Nate's play over the past 4 months has been unbelievable. Sure McDavid is is best player so let's get that established before people want to debate. I'll just say Nathan's play lately has been even better than what you discuss in this video. Shit look at his hattrick against Nashville in the last regular season game to win the Central. The dude is an absolute beast

The biggest reason no team with a $10M player to win the cup is as mundane as it is obvious. Or at least, it should be obvious, but apparently for most people it's not: Very few players make $10M a season, and it's been a relatively short period of time that there have been any. Currently only 10 teams have players with salaries over $10M. Right off the bat, your odds are less than 1 in 3. Most of those contracts are fairly recent as well, so going back just a few years there were much fewer teams with such players. Statistically, it is not unusual at all that no team with a $10M/yr player has won the cup. It's only a matter of time before that changes.

I think part of Barzal’s problem is lacking an elite linemate. I feel like he is constantly being forced to beat multiple defenders. And obviously he can’t shoot it like MacKinnon. As a devils fan it is incredibly important how Hughes keeps improving his goal scoring ability. Now i am confident he will be much closer to MacKinnon than Barzal in overall value. Also, the devils are surrounding him with talent so he can’t be followed by multiple defenders because he’ll pass it and Bratt will beat you if given too much time and space.

So he owes his success to the fans for paying for his chef etc.... oookay, I think that's not nearly enough. I thought you were definitely going to peg his success on his mom. It's always the mom, that's where he gets everything from, his genetics to mentality to size and weight, all of his success he owes to mom. Same thing goes for every player in the NHL, so it's no surprise, to get paid in the millions, you need to be a momma's boy. That's also why they all support gays now, and blacks. I wouldn't but when you sign a contract with those guys, you have to give up your backbone.
