as a songwriter that makes sense. before songs you get poems and pieces of long and heartfelt messages and notes of ideas and stream of conciousness. so making a song iss a whole ecyosystem of various ideas and seeing what fits together. he probably had a bunch of notes of different ideas around the same time and then drew from them once he developed them into songs. he probably better remembers songs as batches as he works on various routines and cycles.

It is so beautiful yet so painful. Since losing my mom to cancer I find it very difficult to listen to it without an explosion of emotions so sadly I will skip it most days to avoid the pain it brings. Pardon the pun, Kyle & Eric. TOP REACTION! Friend Please is such a beautiful yet devastating song. Way back when my beautiful daughter was introducing me to the genius that is Tyler Joseph, this track caused me to have to literally swerve onto the hard shoulder of the motorway. Why? I honest to God thought I was going to crash my car because I couldn't see through the tears streaming down my face. It was like an honest to God kick to the gut . The pain & emotion in Tyler's voice, the raw almost desperation of those lyrics set to, as I soon found out, the typical juxtaposition of a catchy, up tempo beat. It was unlike anything I'd ever heard then or now, the best part of a decade later for us. The tears weren't for Tyler. I didn't "know" him then. The tears were for the hole in my sole caused by the pain my amazingly beautiful & amazing youngest daughter. She had some struggles in high school. We thought teenage angst, never having had any exposure to mental health struggles. We supported her, loved the hell out of her &, to be honest, assumed to a certain point that once the A Levels (I think equivalent to your SATs?) were passed, the university place confirmed & some down time enjoyed, she'd slide back into her own "normal" personality. Fuck, we're we wrong. She hid it well but, despite having an incredible friend group around her, the same friends she still has today, with several additions along the way, my baby girl had a complete breakdown. We came as close to losing her as it's possible to come while still managing to hold on to her. Now, why am I writing this in a TOP reaction video? Quite simply, that boy with all that pain & raw emotion literally saved our baby girl's life. No bullshit, no exaggerating. She had her plan in place, she'd saved money to pay for her funeral because she didn't want to hit me with financial stress!! That alone speaks to the girl she was & the woman she is now. She said once decisions were made, she felt free, even happy. To the point that she agreed to go to a festival in Belfast with some friends. They were going for the headliners, Bring Me The Horizon. My daughter checked online for info on support acts. One of them was a 20 minute set from Twenty One Pilots. No-one in the group had heard of them. It was their 1st tour outside of America. She decided to give them a listen, thinking if she knew a couple of their songs, if they were shit, it might be more bearable. Simply put, Holy Holy Fuck. Tyler's lyrics connected with her in a way that scared parents would never be able to. Don't get me wrong, there was no overnight miracle. There was, however, an overnight realisation that she wasn't the only person feeling what she was feeling. It was a long, hard slog for her but she got through it. Medication alone wasn't working. The same single pill a day combined with the music & lyrics of Tyler did work. During the toughest of times when friends, family or herself couldn't lift her, TOP did. That story probably has tens of thousands of similar ones. It's the reason The Clique are so completely devoted to both the band & their music. Scary thing is, Tyler knows this. Throughout his own struggles, he had to carry that enormous weight on his shoulders. Could you do it? I know I couldn't. He refers to it often over the years. The most obvious reference, I think, is Guns for Hands. You all know the lyrics. He lies awake at night, worrying about the army of young people he was trying to support, even on the days when he couldn't support himself. Today, things are VERY different. She made it through university with a degree so brainy it melts my mind. Today she has an established career in envirmental science. She has a strength I can only dream of having. She still has the odd wobble, but they're very few & far between. I'll finish on this. 6 years ago, on my 50th birthday, I refused to do the stuff my own amazing friend group wanted to do with me. Instead, we left home at 5am to go queue 1st of all for a meet & greet then on to queue gor my 1st TOP gig. As we got towards the end of the line, the boy's handlers were telling everyone "No this, No that", especially, no photos, no personalised messages with the autographs & no touching!! A bit of me thought, shit, these lads are going to be dicks in person. They do say "Never meet your heroes ". Turns out, folk who say that need better heroes lol. I found myself thanking them for literally saving my baby girl's life! In seconds, both boys jumped to their feet and came round the table, both shook my hand then focused on my daughter. The handlers were clearly pissed we were taking so long & came to move us on. Tyler just put both hands up in the universal stop sign. They chatted, asked her if she'd like photos, got her name and wrote a beautiful message on the standard photo everyone there had been issued with for the autographs. Best of all, Tyler gave her the biggest hug. It was unreal. Josh hugged her to but a little one. For someone who's a beast on the drums, he seems shy in person. I'm SO SO SORRY for this book pretending to be a comment but I had to tell it with "Friend Please"! I think of Tyler of a modern day Shakespeare. He'd already rescued not just our girl, but the whole family then he's a freakin sweetheart in person. I'll never be able to express my gratitude. The best I can do is buy albums, go to every gig we can. We're going to Clancy in May. Not once, not twice, but 3 times 😊, Belfast, Dublin then over to Scotland for Glasgow! Cannot wait! Thanks guys for loving their music like we do. It's been a pleasure watching you fall under the spell with us.Your vids ALWAYS do them justice. No bullshit, you can see your reactions are genuine. tyler lost a friend to suicide in high school. i’m not sure if you’ll ever listen to no phun intended, the songs he wrote as a teenager, but there’s one called taken by sleep that’s a lot more explicit about that story and explores a lot of the guilt he was left behind with. for me, the context of that really expands so many songs like neon gravestones and at the risk of feeling dumb, and adds so much to one of the band’s biggest messages- stay alive.

That first verse always gets to me when he says, "Spiders live where Lions once roamed" The idea of taking hands off of your eyes and seeing ..is like letting the lights come in to see what's inside and realize ..spiders live in the dark but lions live in the sunlight. This song really does hit you directly in the gut. It takes my breath away how Tyler was thinking so far outside of the box so early on in his career, and that these subjects were already so heavy in his mind. I really do hope he knows how many people he's saved, with the raw vulnerability of his writing. I know my life is far brighter for it! ❤ Also: Self-Titled, in general, tends to sonically lean more into the somberness of the lyrics than later albums after Josh joins. It's more melodic and thoughtful, than upbeat and dancey like Vessel is, even though the subject matter is similar. It's so interesting, to see how the band has grown and evolved as musicians and writers over time!

Tyler actually has his own album from long before he even did the self titled album and on it theres a song called the taco bell saga and i swear to god its a masterpiece. Not lyrically or musically but comically and its a side we got to see again in Lavish. I personally dont like the song but its a good album to check out as you get the younger version of tyler and a more raw and unfiltered voice and you get more of an understanding of how his thoughts were at the time too. Also pls react to poppys new album its heavy and also not its probably her best album. Jordan fish, the former drummer of BMTH, helped with the album its been on repeat for weeks and its been on every metal head that i know of tongues
