I don't feel like explaining my enjoyment of _all_ the different plots (although I agree on the kiera knightly one, the story itself is not bad but the conclusion is insane in a way I don't like) but the martin freeman one is one of my favourites because it's so sweet and understated. They are in these fairly extreme positions where they are stand-ins for erotic movies but then they so innocently talk about their days and if _maybe_ the other would like to maybe go on a date sometime and their date concludes so sweetly. I do know a bunch is cut out of international (non-European) version because it's a bit explicit, so you might've seen a version with most of it cut. Also, it's insane but the little boy (the step son) and Kiera Knightly differ only 5 years here. Crazy.

As a Brit, we enjoy dark, dry humour (sweeping generalisation) which is the kind of comedy this goes for. It goes into different types of love, like Bill Nighy and his manager, or the woman and her brother. Everything you say is wrong with the movie is completely valid though, but we don't really care in the end because its a good time. Not ridicuoously hopeful like other Christmas films. This movie is good because it's not like "a christmas prince" 'cause even if some of those characters are annoying, they feel real. I've done this with people when we both speak/understand the languages we're using but initially neither character is meant to speak any of the other's language, the fact they're saying related things is coincidental so it isn't really the same thing at all.

In the movie they don’t understand eachother at all, they simply are so alike and made for eachother that they always talk about the same things at the same time without knowing it, that’s the point of the relationship.

Ahh Dylan it’s such a great movie.. because it doesn’t resolve everything, it doesn’t spell everything out for you, it leaves you the space to come to your own conclusion and it’s a good attempt to show real, imperfect people with issues and weird solutions and behaviors. It’s not like these generic and flat hallmark movies and I love Love actually for that! The beginning and end is beautiful, the plotlines that are all kinda connected through the people working together, being friends or family are so fun and the messy, blunt, shameless cheesy stuff in between is just brilliant and hilarious to me. There’re so many cool and fun nuances in there I’m surprised you didn’t catch! Like the p***n set workers that are actually really shy and not getting in bed right away but get engaged (I personally know people who got married after knowing each other for a week and who are happy after 15 years together.. it happens). The plot about the sister taking care of her brother where she feels so responsible and so much love for him that she puts her own happiness aside to be there for him. It’s sad but it’s also fricking beautiful and important to show these kinds of issues (mental health, schizophrenia), love and family working through that. And I bet Karl and her got a second chance later on;) sooo yeah, I just love this messy, uninhibited, sad, hopeful, quirky movie and it feels perfectly imperfect and more real than the soft washed christmas movies (which I can still enjoy). I would just criticize some aspects (from todays point of view obviously) like the fatphobia/bodyshaming and the "suck it up" comment towards Liam while grieving.

I always thought that Keira Knightly kissing Andrew was not a romantic kiss, but more a “thank you for this gesture, here’s a token of my appreciation.” Also, I think Colin Firth’s character wasn’t married, just dating/living with the cheating girl, which is why he just said, “Alone again”.
@propogandalf54 минут бұрын
I think a hug would have been more appropriate for that gesture. Because now they'll always have this boundary-crossing secret from Chiwetel's character

I love the relationship between the Portuguese girl and the man because even though they couldn't understand each other they had the same thoughts on almost everything (which is why it seemed like they did understand each other). It's the sweetest example of soulmates. And no, she did not forgive Alan Rickman in a month, she obviously has resentment and tension on her face and in her voice when he comes back. It's just so many different examples of love, like how instead of choosing Karl she chose her brother. And by the end of the movie the little boy calls him "Dad" for the first time. And also Kiera Knightly giving him one kiss, as a thank you and forgiveness and understanding, and then he consciously chooses to move on. As a Brit, dark humour is a must for survival here.

42:29 My explanation: it says love is all around, not that necessarily all of it is deep or wholesome love, just love. Obviously not all the story lines are perfect, Ive never liked the Karl one and Colin to America is a bit redundant but cute cause at least it shows anyone can have love you've just got to find it. Thomas Brodie-sangsters is one of my favourites I don't care if he's like 10 (the character that is, Thomas was 13), I had a crush when I was 6 and felt like my whole world came crashing down when his dad got posted to Canada so had to move, the fact that he is so young means that she probably really is his whole world and he works so hard to prove it to her and how can you not find the airport gesture lovely. Bill Nighy gives us a platonic storyline between him and his manager and I think part of the charm may be lost on you as it may just be the people I know but generally brits have a soft spot for Bill Nighy. You glossed way over Rowen Atkinson and his endeavour for truth to come out between Alan and Emma Thompson, helping love through aiding Thomas brodie-sangster. I also refuse to accept the hate of Colin Firths storyline, they can't understand each other, it's meant to be ironic like the bit with the eels, but the whole him walking through the town and the music swelling like it's beautiful. Hugh Grant as the prime minister will never not be funny especially the dance scene. And lastly me and my mum will never not cry at the final airport bit, my dad was army (now retired - not dead as I have accidentally made someone think before) and we've been stood there many a time waiting for him to come out of the gate after god knows how many months so that bit with all the clips of families always hits a spot. I've probably missed bits but I'd say overall that's why I love it.

I share the same sentiments with this movie. There’s too much going on and there are barely any wholesome plot lines. It gives me anxiety.

I love, love, actually because it is quintessentially british and stupid. Its not designed to take itself seriously but it has serious moments. Love

The Emma Thompson emotional damage in this one is REAL. There are storylines in here that I love and ones that I really dislike. BUT I do like that Rodrigo Santoro had more speaking lines. I remember my mom wanting to see this movie because we would see our Brazilian actor in a big foreign movie. 😊

Im five minutes in and as someone who watched this movie kinda every year and is, not from UK, but from Europa and feels maybe a bit more familiar with this kind of bluntness and watching sth that’s so uninhibited - I laughed my ass of so many times already watching you react to it😂 thank you for that, highly needed that and appreciate it.
