@@3generboiler Thank you. Struggling at the moment. October, used to be my favorite month as a child, has become a series of traumatic flashbacks and trauma. Suicides, deaths, and violence. Last suicide attempt less than a yr ago. I'm 59 and understand my illness well. My Profession is in Forensic Psychiatry ironically. Plead for help at a Compass Health Network here in Columbia MO, last week. I'm physically disabled and was told I would receive a Case Manager to help me get to my Psychiatric and Psychological appointments. However, because I don't have a drug addiction I don't "qualify". Music is a universal language that transcends. Superfiicially, neither of us would think that four white boys from Georgia could elicit these feelings in us. I am 72 years old and my mother made sure I was exposed to all music and performers as a child. I grew up with 50s doo-wo-, rockabilly, ballads, and so on into the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and so on. Raising my kids, it was important to me to take them back and expose them to all that music and encourage them to stay current.in their lifetimes. Through music we can feel what the performer feels or what they want to convey. Some have more to say or say it better, but they all should get a chance to grab you. You are never too old to experience new feelings, meet new realities, expand your perceptions and understanding of your fellow man. I enjoy seeing your sincere efforts to give music a chance to expand your consciousness.

This is a prime example of the skillfull use of written lyrics to accomplish the main Important aim of producing art that of causing a reaction, touching the soul, connecting, acknowledging, commenting and voicing concern. This song has saved many, many peoples lives since its release, proven by vast amounts of letters received over the years by the group /lyric writer. This song should be listened to at least once during everyone's life. If anyone listens to this and is never effected they must seriously be dead inside. As a suffered of depression and suicidal ideation this song has saved me many, many times.

My father was super macho and a definite man’s man. However he gave me one of the greatest gifts you could give your children I caught him tearing up to a movie we were watching on TV once and then I looked away really fast and he said to me or you and I turned around he said there ain’t nothing wrong with doing what I’m doing if you need to cry in life than you let yourself cry anybody has a problem with it that’s their effing problem not yours he said don’t ever stifle your own feelings for other people. Also I know somebody that committed suicide today so this song came at an unbelievable time for me. Keep up the good work big fan of listening to what you have to say in your perspective

My first comment was right at the beginning of the video. Having heard the rest, I would like to pray for you, and your family. Whatever is going on, I can assure you, is in God's hands. Let it out, cry, scream, do what you need to do. At the end of the day, break out that good book, read your favorite passages, reflect on how it makes you feel, and what those passages and words made you feel the first time you read them. Then find something new, flip the pages, find new favorite passages, ones that will only make sense once you let them. Godspeed my friend, his word will heal you, along with prayer from yourself, family, and others. You are a great man, and a great father. I will be keeping that in my prayers for you and your family.

So, I’m bored at work and just stumbled upon this video. Your comments on the song were the exact same thing I was saying when I was 13 when the album Automatic for the People was released. I remember all the kids at school saying Everybody Hurts was the most depressing song, and I would argue back that the song is not depressing. Michael Stipe is hugging us with his lyrics, and the strain in his voice is empathy. And, I was so excited when you said in the video this song is a hug. I couldn’t believe it! I was saying to myself in my head “He gets it!” I wish I had found this video when it dropped. But, better late than never right?

If you ever do hit that wall, that time when it all comes out... remember this song and put it on replay. it saved my life, and I'm sure I'm one of many. Every one you meet, everyone you interact with, family, friends, even mere acquaintances all have a call on your life. That realization, the hurt and damage I would cause by committing suicide is what stopped me. the path back is so long and so difficult, but it is possible. And joys unknowable are there at the end. Bless you Man. whatever the world would have you believe, that you are only answerable to yourself, is bullshit.

Realization of our own faults is a very hard thing for anyone. Many go through life without ever doing so. It requires a good level of self-awareness, honesty, and high levels of courage to face yourself like that. A lot of music helps with doing so, you just have to find the right song and artist at the right time for you. I find Bill Withers 'Lean on Me,' Shinedown's acoustic cover of 'Simple Man,' Johnny Cash's cover of 'Hurt,' Rolling Stones 'Salt of the Earth,' and this song you just watched good ones to help when I'm feeling down and out. 😢This song has SAVED so many lives....including mine...in so many dark and hopeless times.💔 It has been used a lot in suicide awareness campaigns - it's heart-breaking, but somehow gives you hope? Such an important song for so many people. Like the song says Everybody Hurts & some of us almost take that final step. Michael Stipe was a good friend of Kurt Cobain, and was devastated when he committed suicide just a year after this single was released. But as we know, for some people, the PAIN is just too much 🖤 R.E.M. will always be remembered for giving people this timeless saviour.

My dad's mother died when he was 17 from a long battle with cancer. His dad came home and said - mother is dead, we don't cry and walked away. My dad didn't mourn his mother until he was 50 when his father passed. He balled his eyes out at the funeral, not over his dad but over his mother, he only had anger left for his dad….. I think me and my sister's life would have been better if my grandfather had satt with him that day and cried together. We need the release tears bring, it's immensely important for your well being. I really liked what you said in the beginning of the video. I started watching reaction videos specifically by black americans as I didn’t know how else to show my support from the other side of the world.
