if your canvas is loose, many times you can spray it with a fine mist of water and put out in the sunshine and it will stretch tight when it dries.

I also want to let you know that now as a sophomore in college, I've changed my major to fine arts. I've been subscribed to your channel for years, and when I was in high school I discovered that I had a knack for realism. You are a patient teacher and very good at explaining your process and your reasoning. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and techniques in your answers to these questions. It really helped me learn a *lot*. Specially with the question about paths. I TrIeD to paint a rock pathway at one time, going from the bottom left of my painting to the middle right, and, it ended up looking like a wall. I think my problem was that I didn't have the perspective correct. I did paint it narrower at the right side (end) of the pathway. But, it just didn't turn out to look like a pathway, so, I left it for a wall. I may put some running rose vines on it to decorate it, more. Regardless, my sister saw it and she loves it. I have it with the sky, a few clouds, some grass with highlighting on it, and, a couple of trees in front of the wall, at the foreground. I'm not completely through with it cause, as I said, I may put some running rose bushes on the "wall," and, a few more highlights on my grassy area with a few wildflowers, here and there. DK!!! BUT, thank you so much for this video. Love watching your channel cause I get so many ideas from your videos. TY !!!

Kevin - I don't use mineral spirits or turpentine either to clean brushes; I also don't use baby oil (other than sometimes, on my old man rough skin...). I wipe the brush off on kitchen roll (which I think you would call 'shop towel') squeezing out as much as I can. And then - just plain soap, and cool water. I've done this for half a century or more, and it does work. Oh, and why do some oil paints take so long to dry? Because some of them need more oil to mill the paint to a state fit to use - this is especially true of Titanium White, Cadmium Yellow, and (depending on what's in it) Sap Green. It's also true of Alizarin Crimson and Zinc White, neither of which I use. I don't have your particular talent, and immense enthusiasm - but I do have experience: oh, so much experience! Rather too much, to be honest....... Glad to give YOU a couple of suggestions, given your extreme generosity in sharing yours with the rest of us. All the best.

Distant leaves and trees are a cinch, if you first block in you're painting using acrylics, then come back after the acrylic is dry using oils and drop in the foliage and canopies separately.

Olá Kevin. Me chamo Wilson. Sou do Brasil. Hi Kevin, recently purchased Water soluble oils ( WSO). I have a condition called "MCS" Multiple chemical sensitivity. I cannot tolerate oils and the solvents. I've painted in acrylic but I want to take my time and also have luxury blending time. I've purchased your acrylic brush line as well as dvds and I love them. I would love it if you would try out and demonstrate (WSO) because they clean up even easier then acrylics and there is virtually no odor, if anything, it smells like French fry oil and feels so great to paint with. One more question, what did you practice on, canvas paper or water colour paper, canvas board, I'm thinking space and expense wise? Thanks for your wonderful teachings. Good bless my friend 🙏✌️❣️

Are WSO really giving the same results? I'm using traditional oil paints (and have to use them for years because I have a lot of them😂😂) but I always wondered if the paint brushes are easier to clean. I react sensitive to paint thinners so I use oils and soap and it really takes time. How do you clean them?
@tammyhong159

Kevin I need your help. I painted a beautiful sky. I wanted to do a beautiful wave ,however I screwed up, and the (dark water oil ) paint all over the canvas,but just smooth. I really want to do the big wave and the eye ,but my oil is sticky/ tacky. So now I’m wondering how I’m going to get that eye because I have only pure white 1 inch, area on horizon. Could I get away with doing a smaller wave and using that horizon line ,or go narrow / or wide wave . My canvas is 24/30 . It’s artists loft level 1 . I find them floppy. But I went from acrylics to oils ,and I am now thinking about water mixable oils . I wonder if you think they would have the same quality. It sure seems easier on lungs ,but I don’t see you using them ? Thank you so very very much. I really need some guidance,as I don’t have anyone else to ask .❤️🇨🇦

@@TruthSetsUfree100 Any heavy quality kitchen roll - not the extremely absorbent, flimsy ones, which will just disintegrate - will do the job. You can use newsprint, as suggested - though that get a bit murky - you could even use blotting paper, though I probably wouldn't (and it's no easier to get than kitchen roll/shop towel). Even an old handkerchief would work - but who's got a drawer-full of old handkerchiefs? Thick paper towel is by far the best.
