This one wasn't coming back!

Matt gets spooled by a big eagle ray. The yellow ones with white/blue spots are the most powerful opponent we run into off the beach - very fast as opposed to the heavier but lazy black rays we also catch at times.

There is a spot up here that has heaps, fortunately they are usually small and turnable. Makes it a dearish night out.

What he should have done was keep the rod tip down so he didn’t risk snapping it, and then lock the drag up a bit sooner once he knew he was going to run out of line. We always fish lighter traces than mainline so it should break at the trace.
