As a 2100 rapid player I think the Jobava London is more aggressive. Its rarer and opponents spend more time to make moves.
@jacksarkisian
@jacksarkisian 3 ай бұрын
Jobava is certainly more aggressive and tactical - but the offset to this is that the opening is much more theoretical. a big reason that I vouch for new players to play the London is because you can learn all its theory in one sitting if you really wanted to. then they can use that time they saved studying tactics, endgames, etc.

Can you please answer my question? What openings suit which rating level? Can you make a video and give a minimum rating to play certain openings? E.g. I have heard that Sicilian Defense is a very complicated opening that you shouldn't play below the rating of 1800.
@jacksarkisian

I could make a video on this for sure, could make a Tier List style video with logistical reasoning paired to each of the top 25 most played openings 🔥
@hayhorca915
@hayhorca915 5 күн бұрын
I don't understand people who say that about the Sicilian. It's like they assume a Sicilian player below 1800 will always go against a highly prepped opponent who will bring them into complicated positions that they won't understand. Below 1800 most people play the bowler attack or something similar to it and black equalises or is better.

in terms of how quickly you can learn the opening there is simply no equivalent - you can learn the entire theory of the London in one sitting. however in terms of dynamics, solidity and aggressiveness, you're certainly right. there are hundreds of openings with equal or better characteristics than the London, they just take a LONG time to learn properly.

@jacksarkisian
@jacksarkisian 2 ай бұрын
the elephant gambit has a 57% loss rate at the master level, whereas the London has a 30% loss rate. i wouldn't really say they're comparable. the point of this video isn't that the London System is the greatest opening of all time, its just that if you want to reach high Elo milestones quickly without spending hundreds of hours on opening theory, the London is the best opening for that. it also is much more dynamic than people give it credit for. i've actually never played a single game against 2. c6 though, but if 3. c4/c3 it does just transpose into regular London/Slav lines.

stonewall is nice, super similar to the Colle System but you don't end up fianchettoing the dark squared bishop (and you advance the f pawn obviously). what move order do you play it in? might have a look at it. the Trompowsky is interesting though, i can't say i know much about it at all (similarly with the Levitsky). i see Hikaru play it all the time in blitz, is it any good?

It actually works well against the indian defences which become meta in higher ratings (Im not high rating but my dad does have good knowledge of the game so usually i learn more advanced openings that i cant use on him) C. @@jacksarkisian it's honestly fine at the end of the day, but in my opinion best for low rated players and GMs, even though openings don't matter at a low level knowing a few moves can boost a players confidence. And at GM level everything is equal, so playing the London is just another route to get a good game without any eccentric preparation. The 'danger' is for players to either mindlessly blitz out the setup and that the limited variety of structures can both stunt a player's growth and get boring over the long term. This seems to be the consensus from a lot of GMs and top trainers from what I've seen.
