I dunno what his reasoning was, but he was right to ignore it. Stockfish evaluates the position as dead even, but if you take that pawn, it evaluates it as +1 for white, even though black has 1 extra pawn. White gets multiple free tempos attacking the queen, and depending on the order of moves, white has some tactical tricks to win material.

1:06 why can’t he take the pawn on b2 with his queen here? I am not that good at chess so I am genuinely wondering
@JackVolt
@JackVolt Ай бұрын
He definitely CAN take the pawn on b2 there, it's not defended. That's why Levy points to it and says "free". It's probably a bad move to take the pawn though. It opens up that file for white's rook to attack, and it puts the black queen in awkward spot. She can't attack or defend anything from that square, and the white pieces can easily attack her to gain tempos.
@JoshuaGutierrez-yq2bi

Yes its free, but it gives the opponent something to work with. It can be good to be up a pawn, but to risk the position, even slightly?
