I've only tried one project with beads, which was your beanie with beads. I made bags to put Christmas gifts in this year and one of the recipients (14 year old) has been wearing the bag as a hat so I told him I would make him a hat. He wanted black with red stripes and beads. I was surprised how quickly it worked up since it was all single crochet. Looked great.

I have only used beads in crochet projects as a little accent, like on a tassel added to a zippered crochet pouch. I have a crossbody handbag pattern saved on my Pinterest board that has beads crocheted throughout the body of the bag and am dying to make it for myself - but other projects/gifts keep taking precedence. I also have a couple of beaded crochet bracelet patterns saved… hmmm, stocking stuffers??? Sara, thanks for adding more ideas to my projects/gifts list - that beaded crossbody may never get done 😂.

I don't do it often but it can be so cute. I made a convertible hat/cowl that opened at the top (with ties) to put a pony tail through. Adding the beads made the ties a little fancier. I'd be interested in seeing beaded patterns.

I do have a question about wool yarn. I have some I would like to use, but want a solid color with the variegated color. There is none available in this brand . So, if I get another wool blend, how important is it to get 1- the same percentages of the blend ?, 2- same "type" of wool in the blend, ? And 3- could an alpaca blend be substituted for the "superwash merino? I'm afraid to make a sweater or anything and have half "shrink" or distort the item after one wash. 🤷‍♀️

You can mix brands, and color but it needs to be the same percentage of wool so it washes evenly. Alpaca and wool can be mixed in the blend of yarn, but they do wash differently. Wool felts and Alpaca does not.
