I’ve been playing for a tad over 50 years. Have several Les Pauls and 4 Strats but I bought this one because I’ve always wanted a Gretsch but didn’t want to spend a ton of money without really ever having played one. I was intrigued by the tones. Got mine last week and it is more than what I hoped for. An unbelievable guitar for the price, and it just captures tones that none of the others can. What a steal and what an amazing sounding instrument!

I got the green Chinese Gretsch with the Bigsby that always comes loose an falls apart. I took it off ,and the pick gaurd too, because I broke it, so it kind of lookes cool without the pick gaurd and I don't need the tremolo arm to play it. It sounds and plays good. Finding a case was hard and it's a super tight fit. I prefer this model that you are reviewing because of the pickup configuration, the compensated saddle, and no Bigsby. It's also half the price of the one that I bought, same nice neck and decent tuners.

LOL Exactly...It would have taken literally take less than 30 seconds to adjust a pickup he spent the entire video bashing. This is a phenomenal guitar for the money. Anyone looking for a Single Cut under 400 bucks would be nuts not to consider this one. I've got this P 90 version, but they make the same guitar in an HH configuration if you're not into it. P 90's are classic but like all of them, it will let you know its there if you push any appreciable gain to it.

Happened to catch a GC sale on these today - $289! Picked up the natural “single barrel” finish. They had two - opted to buy a new one in box. When home, did an unboxing to discover the P90 was poorly installed (slanted considerably) and no luck adjusting. Neck joint and fretboard transition to body is weird - big gap between end of fretboard and top. Plugged into my blues jr and it sounded weak - no growl, no punch. Off I go to GC to see if they can correct the pickup issue and neck.

Thanks for the great review! I've got the Sahara Metallic one - I think (as you discovered) that the middle position combines the chime of the bridge with the dirt/power of the P90 neck. The neck on it's own is great, too. The Broad'Tron pickups (bridge) isn't really a bad pickup on it's own, but when paired with the P90 beastie in the neck, it comes off as anemic. The 2 Broad'Tron pickup version of this guitar is terrific, but different from this beast. That said, I'm a P90 guy so I prefer this version. I hope they come out with a 2 x P90 version some day (Gretsch version of a Les Paul Special). They had a FSR Streamliner hollow body with 2xP90s, but I prefer this model. Great bang for the buck in any case.

Thank you very much for the review, it is very interesting. Today I bought this guitar. It's great. The nut is not very good, I would have to change it, and maybe I can improve the potentiometers, but the rest is great. There is a problem that you have already mentioned in the video: the volume of the two pickups is very different. I have raised the width of the bridge pickup to balance the volume, because it is difficult to lower the p90. Now the volume is balanced but I don't know if the bridge pickup is too close to the strings and loses clarity. What do you think? Another option is to change the bridge pickup for another one with more power, more output. Maybe a p90 in humbuker format or a seymour duncan jb, or similar ... any suggestions? What do you think of all this?

looks a great alternative to a les paul... i never enjoy the les pauls 4 switches..... the gretsch looks funkier.... better for bluesier styles or rockabilly etc.. ..
