thanks for watching. There is a real Telegraph Road in Michigan. Mark was on a bus hearing about how the area developed into Detroit. Now the city is just a shell of what it was. He wrote a song about it.

One of the best bands ever. This was the first track on the album "Love Over Gold" I bought it in 1982 when it came out and when I played this track for the first time, I said to myself, holy ---- What did I just hear. I had to play it again before I could listen to the rest of the album.

Everyone in this band is a standout in their own right. Mark is the GOAT when it comes to his guitar playing. Even my Dad, who was in his 60s at the time, loved them. No egos here.❤

This was the encore at the end of the 2 hour long Alchemy concert. Still as much energy in this perfomance as the beginning of the concert. Great reaction BTW, as was your reaction to Sultans of Swing from the same concert.

Pretty much every DS song is a story. When it isn't through Mark's singing, it's the guitars and/or the keyboards. The drummer was Terry "Machine gun" Williams. He got a jail free card from the band during the concert, so he could go all out because his father was watching the show. Glad you enjoyed this, the complete concert is a must for music lovers.

The man from across the pond wrote many amazing songs about America and American history. I love that about him, along with everything else. BTW, Mark has a dinosaur and a planet named after him.

Hi Bimu, Another terrific reaction from the discerning younger generation 😂Here’s a little abbreviated information about MK and Dire Straits that you might like to know: Dire Straits, were a brilliantly gifted band of British musicians, led by Mark Knopfler (now 75), who remains one of the most celebrated British guitar heroes to emerge in the late 1970s and '80s, a phenomenal finger picking guitarist/singer/prolific songwriter/lyricist/composer/musician, who wrote & arranged every song for Dire Straits 6 albums, before leaving the band in 1995. MK has had a helluva musical career, collaborating with many other famous artists, writing music scores for 9 films, & all the wonderful songs & lyrics for the albums made during his ‘Solo’ career with another band of multitalented musicians, and their 10th album was released this April 2024. I❤MK You’re in for a great musical ride, if you delve into the legendary live performances of Mark Knopfler & Dire Straits, but here’s a couple of highly recommended links: Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms LIVE (On the Night, 1993) HD - kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2PVqWZ_dqp8iaMsi=ZL7d6NnEO0AeVpsl Dire Straits - Calling Elvis LIVE (On the Night, 1993) HD kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHvMmmZ3eNSkesUsi=84nZyf1gzMJsf_ba

I grew up in Detroit less than 1 mile from Telegraph Road. It is the point fo reference for me I also lived two block from it for 31 years. I always wondered if it referenced my Telegraph Road. Detroit has come a long way in a short period of time. It’s a great place to live, too bad the weather isn’t better.

Dire Straits broke up far too soon, but Mark then pursued a solo career which included writing music for films, and songs for other artists (eg "Private Dancer" for Tina Turner)and now into his 70s he's still writing new stuff.

So great to see young folk react to DS for the first time and watch minds blow 😂. There are so many incredible bands from this era, some of whom I prefer in the studio (Steely Dan 🤌) but for me this iteration of Dire Straits have got to be the best live band. Impeccable musicians having fun with great tunes, it just doesnt get better

Dire Straits was one of the many great British bands that graced us in the 1960's, '70's and '80's. The songs weren't just vacuous crap about love, they told stories and social commentary reflecting the human condition. Sorry if that sounds a bit pompous but the composition and technical ability of the musicians was second-to-none. Try Pink Floyd "Pulse" concert, Genesis, Jethro Tull, The Who, Led Zeppelin, so much great music to discover, so many great bands.

Masterclass in musicianship by everyone but for me it's Alan Clark on keys who is the stand out on this live version. My favourite band from my late teens & early 20's.

Hey love your reactions and channel. There are so many more incredible performances. I recommend Calling Elvis from DIRE STRAITS- Live "On The Night" 1993. There's a little surprise at the end where you just don't see anymore in bands instrumentally. It's awesome. Cheers all the best from Australia 👍🎸🎸

Other different but spectacular examples of their talent are also on display in "Once Upon a Time in the West" and Private Investigation," also from Alchemy Live. And no exploration of Dire Straits would be complete without at least checking out "Brothers in Arms" and "Money for Nothing" from On the Night Live. Mark is a great story-teller, and so many of his songs have an interesting background. In this case, the title refers to the 'Telegraph Road' just outside of Detroit, which is a major north-south thoroughfare in Michigan. Mark was inspired to write the song while riding in the front of the tour bus as they journeyed down Telegraph Road, as he was asking the driver about all of the urban blight in evidence at the time ("All these sings say 'sorry but we're closed,' all the way down the telegraph road"). Knopfler was also reading 'Growth of the Soil' by the Nobel Prize winning Norwegian author Knut Hamsun; he was ultimately inspired to combine the two narratives / histories, and the result was a song about the beginning of the development along Telegraph Road, and the consequent (and sometimes sad) changes over the ensuing decades of industrialization, urban development and post-industrial economic hardship.
