I discovered X Japan a few years ago…. Wish I knew of them a lot longer. Such a diverse and talented band. One of the best ever…

This is exactly the status all the new Japanese bands strive for, of course in their own way, but it is the benchmark in terms of success and recognition

Small mistake - lead singer TOSHI, and leader/drummer/pianist YOSHIKI. Thanks for the detailed reaction. I suggest you listen to their song Rose of Pain (Version with orchestra). Voluminous vocals, classical elements, very atmospheric song. Also, for a detailed analysis, somehow you can try to listen to Art of Life (full live in 1993), which runs for 30 minutes, and lyrics full in english, but this is their most important masterpiece, more precisely the masterpiece of Yoshiki, who composed this song by 90% more.

Sadistic Desire from '93, it is one of my favourite songs made by Hide for X Japan, there is a documentary about X Japan called "We Are X!" it is one of the most beautiful documentary ive seen.

There's another BABYMETAL connection with this song. Su's first solo song was 'Akatsuki'. That can be written by combining "red" (aka) and "moon" (tsuki). Which helps explain the red moon imagery BABYMETAL uses in many of their concerts. On the track listing, the character "Kurenai" (often translated as a deep red or crimson) is used instead of "Red" as a tribute to the X-Japan song.

The X Japan videos that will give you chills are the ones where the audience sings with Toshi. Watching these you must now know where Su Metal got her neck collar. X Japan was to be the first Japanese band to perform at Wembley, London, but they fell apart. The Japanese band that was the first was Babymetal!! There is a photo of Su, Yui, and Moa with Yoshiki in London prior to the performance. Both sad and happy. Gene Simmons said they would have been one of the biggest bands in the world if they were a "western band"and I agree. If you haven't already you should react to Show Ya biggest all female band in Japan from the 80/90's. Show Ya, they are still together today and just released a new album

They're so good. They have influenced/inspired about every metal band in Japan in a way and probably a bunch overseas, such legends! I recommend watching the documentary "We Are X", it's a fantastic (and emotional) odyssey through X history. There are couple of more legendary bands from Japan; Bow Wow, Lazy/Loudness and Show-Ya.

X Japan didn't break up due to Hide but Toshi the lead singer who was led into a religious cult by his then wife. The cult told Toshi that the music he was doing was evil. He was tortured and humiliated by them and told the band he was leaving. After almost 10 years he escaped the cult and Yoshiki brought him back to restart X. They've been back 2gether since 2007 but didn't perform their 1st show until 2009. They also brought in Sugizo as the guitarist 🎸 and violin 🎻 player who is with another band called Luna Sea (Lunacy was their original name) and they were given their start by Yoshiki who signed them to his label in the early 90s.

R.I.P. Hide & Taiji. X Japan's influence can be seen and heard on so many current Japanese Metal bands - Lovebites, Unlucky Morpheus, Nemophila....the list goes on. 🤘🔥WE ARE X!!! Lovebites reference them in the pre-chorus to Empty Daydream : "Empty room, endless rain..." Endless Rain is a big-ass Bastard of a power ballad by X Japan.

I don't know why but the audio seems really compressed, like it has this "tube effect". Also you should bring the volume of the video you watch way lower so we could be able to hear you talk while listening to it. Thank you for reacting to this band!

Hide was so influential to Japanese youth that when he committed suicide, he ended up becoming the trigger for a large number of youth suicides in the late 90's in Japan.
