I'm switching from years of Samsung note adherence to this. Reason? It's the only flagship phone today with expandable memory, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Pretty important stuff for high res music fans. It's that simple. Thanks for being the ONLY manufacturer keeping things real, Sony.
@forbes6463 жыл бұрын
I've been a note user since the note 8, I currently have the note 20 Ultra. Every since I learned Samsung has stopped including expanded storage in their current line of flagship phones, I knew they wouldn't include it for the next generation of the note (if they haven't already discontinued it that is). I love my note, but as an avid music listener who downloads his music instead of using data to stream (high-res is very data intensive), expanded storage is a deal breaker.

Check GSMArena for lab-tests with music samples, all sampled with the same set-up. Be the judge yourself ;) Samsung is a bit tiny too compared to an Xiaomi or iPhone, but it has way more low-end frequency response than the last Xperia 1 II and also a lot more soundstage. It's actually mind-blowing on just how well-documented Sony phones are. I've been looking at phones to get a new one recently, and Sony say exactly what it has or doesn't have. USB-C video output? They even specify the resolution. OTG? Damn right, says on the actual specs page. Camera sensor types and sizes, lens focal lengths and apertures? Also right there. Bluetooth audio codecs, 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G frequencies? All well documented. Complete with guides how to hook up the phone to a TV or to a camera as monitor, for example. With other phones to find out if they have USB OTG you need to see a KZbin test. It is so good not to have to rely on unreliable information on phone comparison websites, and then be profoundly disappointed after spending more than monthly salary on a phone, because there was mistake on that site.

I think the location on the top of the phone was chosen for the same reason other manufacturers are not including headphone jacks anymore. Think about it, when you're wearing headphones, you probably wanna have the chord come out the bottom for easy use when holding the phone with headphones. But nowadays most people will probably have wireless earphones anyways and use the headphone jack for a sound or speaker system, in a friend's car for example. And if you hook your phone up to a speaker or something external, non wearable, it's a lot more comfortable to have the cable come out the top and not have to bend it.

And the screen that has a pitiful peak brightness that goes back to days of the galaxy s5? And is doubled by 3K oled displays. At least its not only 400nits like the pro. Ruining the entire intended purpose of the pro. But the s21 ultra can do its full 3K and 120hrz. Plus its brightness is nearly double. Is not the only large 12mp sensor on a phone. Not even close to the first one recently or from many years ago....typical Sony fan boys again showing they have zero relevant phone knowledge. Wasting pixels? You really are a sheep. Other phones have extensive pro controls too. Yes Sony recently added a couple more over others after the years they were behind. Front facing speakers that are ok. As decent as the rest out there but not matching or beating the better ones. Plenty of power management options on other devices. And what Sony offers is not much more over others. Nor does it magically make their smaller than average batteries better. At least this one is 4.5k mah instead the 4k of the pro. Obviously removing those features is not innovation. That's a random side point used to deflect the factual point i made about how bogus it was to call this phone innovative. You're right. Did either of you guys have issues with the bluetooth? Had 3 Xperia phones in the family and the BT went tits up on all 3. Not to mention two had to be RMA'd for dead screen edges on arrival. It's a shame cause they were really well spec'd for the price and really nice to use. Just not sure I'm ready to trust again now I'm using BT so much more.

Thank you for this video Linus, I have been looking forward to this phone. Would love a full review of this and the 5 III if possible!

After having had the Xperia 1 for the last couple years I also don't think I would ever want to go back to a non 21:9 ratio phone. The tall screen makes feeds so much better because you can see so much more by default on the tall screen. Ya know like Twitter, reddit, Facebook feeds, news feeds. It's way better everyone talks about the aspect ratio being great for movies but it's great for most of the things you use a mobile device for. I love it.

Yayy!! I've been asking for a review of this phone for ages! Thank you so much, LMG 😄 It would be great to see an LTT video where the Hi-Res headphone jack, slow-mo high resolution shooting, 120hz display (and the countless other features I won't list here) are properly reviewed in depth. I'm delighted that Xperia is getting attention alongside the larger mobile phone names from LMG.

Finally Sony returning to the good stuff! I've been waiting 4 years to upgrade. It looks worth it now. But wow that price tag stings.

I agree with Linus... If I didn't use the Stylus on my Note 9 as much as I do, I'd opt for this phone...

We can only hope, Samsung realises there mistake, once they see SONY growing in markershare for having features.

Just curious, I assumed you're in a professional level career, what do you mostly use the stylus for? I often find it not useful when making notes but photo editing is a plus tho
@jacobdrj1013 жыл бұрын
@@steveteow5720 I use it to take notes... I use it to sign documents... I use it as a shutter button to take family photos... I use it to easily crop and manipulate photos (especially when taking screen shots and using Google lens to help me translate stuff)... I don't use it as much as I thought I would... I like Google recorder (transcription) more vs notes... But it is so nice to have the stylus when I need it... My Note 9 is a really nice device... It has some glaring flaws... Curved glass screen, glass back, no reverse wireless charging, no ultra wide lens, Bixby button, no shutter button, only single SIM... I want to love it, but I just like it... That said, it has a headphone jack, a really good camera, 512 GB onboard, with a 512 GB microSD card for over 1tb of storage, and a fast enough SOC (SD 845), wireless charging, and OK battery life... So I'm keeping this for now... But something like this Sony, or the professional version with rigged exterior and HDMI in, is so tempting...

Speaking of the Venice… that frickin’ sensor, man. Captures 16-bits of color information. 16-BITS! All wrapped up nicely in that X-OCN codec with a bit rate lower that ArriRaw. Like wtf, combine science and magic much? Seriously, I just worked on a show where we had three of those suckers, and being on one of the sets on the sound stage, you’d think it was twilight. Then you’d look into the monitor and see what the camera was seeing, and BAM! Day light! That thing captured so much, it was a point of frustration for some of the operators and DP. Lol love that thing.
