@D Yeah it's quasi counter culture reclamation of space stuff, I get that...than they still make a business out of it which is pretty lame because that is not what counter cultural reclamation of space (generally a left libertarian, aka anarchist, concept) is. They are watering it down. But they never claimed to be "pirate radio", this dumb channel did for click bait. Pirate Radio is a real thing and people get rediculously high fines for it in the US, because it is very illegal....because it's real and not lame.

alphabet agencies dont need people to learn about real broadcast piracy because some number of transmissions could be propaganda attempts to communally organize against the federalist state

Thought it was edgy until I realized this is just another internet "radio station." Strap on a low power transmitter to your rig, and get back to us.

It's not a pirate radio station because it's not live on the air. but it is a fun thing they put together and I'm glad they're having some good times.

Where's the "RADIO" here? It's STREAMING not RADIO. It's cool, but why be deceptive?

Is not a pirate radio if its not live on FM or AM but hey i support this.
@mhzsm3 жыл бұрын
Additionally you'd have to run higher than legal (part 15) RF output power to be considered a pirate broadcaster...probably greater than 5 watts to get any local coverage that's worth a damn. Which in NYC is a bad idea primarily for 2 reasons... 1 - The FCC field office up there actually does enforcement actions 2 - The 88-108 MHz FM radio spectrum is virtually unusable in the NYC metro area
@SexyFace Жыл бұрын
in this day the fcc should just go defunct & leave the airwaves to go nuts. let advertisers wage corporate wars in the open public for who dominates the airspace. that would be loads of entertainment for a few months + you could divert all fcc grant funding towards something like a portland oregon city revamp or a nationwide state-sponsored homeless rehabilitation program
@mhzsm3 жыл бұрын
Not really radio pirating (per se) but a part 15 FM transmitter (I use a Whole House FM 3.0) would be cool for them to have a little parking lot signal...maybe cover the block and nearby neighborhood. Easier to stay 'street legal' that way. Assuming they could find an open FM channel in the NYC area.

Hate to tell you folks.... but internet radio AIN'T RADIO and it certainly is not "pirate" radio... you might as well be putting on a show in your house for your mommy and daddy... learn how to build a transmitter and get ON THE AIR... you kids are kidding right?? It's sad really... pretending to be Pirates... do you pretend to play Doctor too?

Yeah, I'm disappointed too. I have a real one. Low power, but I easily cover my town. Classic Rock, baby!

For all the cynics whining that this is not pirate radio, get over your word splitting. At least offer up a definition of pirate radio, your source, and then remove the electronic signal that sends the show to that magic transmitter tower, and check again. Get past it and enjoy the true talent of these people. Cheers!
@christianmccauley7340 Жыл бұрын
According to Wikipedia a pirate radio station is a radio station that operates without a license. Technically, a computer radio station that is hacked or something could be considered private radio, since you don’t have license to use that air space. However, that means by definition what they are doing is not private radio. It doesn’t really matter either way, but why ask someone to “source” the definition of private radio? You know as well as anyone else that this isn’t what that is. Instead, just point out that everyone in the comments were being hipster douche bags. Your comment was weird my dude

I need to tell them the bad news, but in order to be a Pirate Radio Station, it means you have to be doing something illegal and since they're just streaming on to the web. They're not breaking any Federal Communications laws. As somebody is paying for the internet connection that they're using and there are currently no laws that require licensing of webcasting stations. So really they're just trying to co-op onto the trendiness of being a pirate, not realizing that Pirate Radio has a very rich and illustrious history, where in some cases people have actually been killed. For operating a pirate station. It was always a means of communication for the ones who are oppressed by usually the government, or whoever was in political power and controlling the reins of the national broadcasting system, as a way of rebelling against them. This is nothing more than a bunch of hipsters Millennials gen Z and gen Alpha trying to be trendy in their semi-ironic funky motorhome. Underneath a bridge in New york.
