Just started watching you guy's a few days ago and my husband is making fun of me because I can't put down my phone down. I am hooked after just one episode, so happy youtube popped up with a random notification of one of your videos, most of the time I ignore them but so happy I didn't this time! Thanks for the awesome exploring. I love that you guy's dig into the history of places and that you are so respectful of the places you explore and the scenery is always beautiful! I really like the missing person episodes you all do. Stay safe and keep exploring!

Many if the small 'windows' or passages from room to room are a firm of air conditioning. They're a type of swamp cooler. Fabric or canvas is placed over the openings and kept wet so when the wind blows, the evaporation keeps the place cool.

Sulphur is 8 miles away. The site is Mandalay Springs and an old millsite. Dry washing & wet washing was done at the site up until the 80's. There were old timers in the area. It's very sad it has been vandalized. I believe the storm you were in was the one that washed out 447 last summer, near Empire. The cabin that sits on the hill was moved from Sulphur in 1980 to save it from destruction. The outhouse was still standing not that long ago.

It's great you guys are documenting these places. I would ask that you not call them creepy. These were built by people with more gumption than I think many Americans can even comprehend today. If you get into the history of these areas, many came and got as much out if the land that they could in spite of the extreme conditions they were up against. when the mining, or another endeavor played itself out, they moved on. This is history. And not to distant history. Maybe 100 years give or take 20 years or so. Not creepy at all... I'd say fascinating. Put yourself in their moment in time and ask if you could have done what they did.

I totally agree, people just think that places that are overrun with nature or are run down are automatically ‘creepy’. But they are only as creepy as you think they are. Some people are scared of different things, so they would not find this scary
@goldking30936 жыл бұрын
RIGHT ON! AGREE 100%. In many of these I've viewed now I was amazed and awed at the work someone put into building them, especially huge hand hewn log buildings. They were the extremely small percent of Americans who knew what it was to risk everything, work your ass off like no one can do today and try to make something better for yourself with your own hands! I know building my modern mining operation took years and it's still a small work in progress and I had heavy equipment to help me. Just putting the barb wire fence around the compound almost killed my back but got high praises from the local rancher. He was shocked at what he said was such a great and professional job. And to be honest, it's the first, only and last one I've built or will build, lol. I'm happy to see there are others who look more deeply into what is being shown and see the true worth, art and inspiration that was captured here and realizes what it's worth was. I just guess that not sleeping in your modern home in the city with all the lights and city noise in the background seems creepy to some people. I bet on a clear night out there you could see the Milky Way going right across the sky just like I do at my mining operation. Many nights I just go out and lay out somewhere to look at the stars, meteorites and satellites going overhead just after sundown while they still catch the rays of the sun to reflect back down. They look like golden nuggets flying across. Of course if you know anything about satellites then you know these are the spy satellites, lol. One night while cleaning the dump trough out on the loader I'm confident I observed the brief flareup of a super nova. Contacting a friend and partner who used to work at JSC he checked out the date and time and said there was one observed and only seen by 3 or 4 reported people on the planet since these are almost always seen only by special equipment designed and used just for this type of astronomical phenomena. Now that was special. And if I had been at home in the city, I would have missed one of the greatest events anyone could ever see in a lifetime. Now the only thing that can seem a little creepy out there then is maybe if you have bats dive bombing the mosquitoes or other flying insects but they are just helping keep them away and/or off you.

Exploring little hidden roadside treasures is funny too- we were driving through near Judy Gap down in West Virginia near Spruce Knob and the Sinks of Gandy and there was an old abandoned run-down little house on the side of a road clearly abandoned. When we looked inside there was piles and piles and piles of cans of Anheuser-Busch 'drinking water' that was donated due to either contaminated wells, silted reservoirs, coal leaching. who knows but it was just neat to find the cool stuff that you would never see just driving between the lines down any boring road. so I pick me up a six pack this old drinking water that was actually full of water and in relatively decent shape considering its been kicked around and laying around. But it is history and someday I will find out what the truth is behind what happened and why so much water had to be donated to an emergency so it may have seemed. Keep on exploring.

We also drove across Bureau of Land Management public use and had a rough used map. We knew Las Vegas was several miles behind us in the valley but we came across another trail and other desert roads that was a little bit more in use and it brought us to the Pioneer Saloon once we turned onto pavement in Goodsprings Nevada so it's nice to find little surprises like that check out the Pioneer Saloon online !!!!

I think like us who are watching, he gets excited about the exploration and forgets how to be a more careful/professional camera operator. We're all guilty of that if you've used even a camcorder before and when you review it you wonder what was I thinking, lol. Also, we have peripheral vision which helps to give us an overall 180 degree field of view whereas the field of view of the camera is much more narrow especially when he has it zoomed in so far. He moves the camera as fast as he moves his head/personal vision/body and fails to take this into account while filming. I also suspect he forgot to use a gimbal mount for the camera to help eliminate some of the "jerking" motion we see from the camera's view. If this location is north of Vegas then at 5:55 into the video I would bet you caught a glimpse of the famous/infamous Area 51 employee bus as it's all white and appears to have all the windows blacked out which they are. Otherwise, what was a commercial style bus doing running down a dirt road out in the middle of nowhere? He was also hauling ass down that dirt road, not the safest driving standard, just like the Area 51 buses do to be as obscure and out of sight as quickly as possible. If this is located in that area, then I'm surprised you didn't recognize it and mention it as it would certainly give a high mark to this exploration to have caught such a sight that every year thousands of people come from all over just to try and catch a glimpse of one and here you may have done just that for your viewers! Great capture if it is one, congrats and as always thanks for the video!

I have a recurring nightmare of driving uphill on a dirt road which ends at a sort of abandoned, run-down wild west town. There is a dried-up well in the center of the town, and a creepy feeling that something terrible happened there. I wonder if that place exists somewhere.
@garybaker60677 жыл бұрын
Do you carry when you go exploring? It's inevitable that sooner or later you will encounter an unfriendly, possibly crazed squatter. I hope you at least take some pepper spray or a Taser. If it were me, I would get a German shepherd, Rottweiler or Doberman to take along. It will bark if it smells or hears anyone else and also be a deterrent. Have you ever thought about exploring Centralia, Pennsylvania or Picher, Oklahoma?
@ExploreWithUs7 жыл бұрын
I was going to make a video on what I carry, but KZbin now frowns on anything related to firearms. I would love to explore Centralia, but I have heard they are now cracking down on anyone who enters. Picher, on my list of must see places. Thank you for the comment. 🙂

@Automedon27 жыл бұрын
Why do people assume squatters are dangerous people you need to defend themselves from. If someone is living in those remote, run down places, they are sad, harmless people who have run out of all options in their lives. They are hardly lying in wait to attack someone - this isn't Hollywood it's tragic realty.

if you go to KZbin and type in "the desert dork presents" you'll see that we interviewed a guy named Mark Turner from Lorton Virginia that was hiking Across America for charity water. we were driving down to Philippi West Virginia and video recording some of those large iron historic marker signs on the side of the roads up on a pole. I saw this guy hiking up this mountain highway Rt 250 with big external frame backpack. So I said to him where you headed and he responded California and I said to my buddy Mark 'hey get your video camera we've got a story here '. We were in the Mount Potosi mine and we're exploring it it was great and we did some other explorations on videos but we just can't find those little SD cards that we saved. Those things are so small what a bitch to lose those. Dammit. I guess we'll just have to do it all over again.
