I think you’re mistaken, this is Ohio, I know most people think it’s nothing but corn fields but this is the southern valley area. 👍

Any trouble with access?!?! Got to love the Cali transplants that move up here then deny us locals access! haha

Same with Montana but also rich Texans as well as Californians denying access. Californians brought all their real estate developer corruption with them and are quickly ruining it all with traffic, crime, and corruption.

I believe public lands to be one of if not the most valuable resources we have.

One of the first rivers I fished after moving to Idaho in 1989 was the S Fork of the Boise. Instantly fell in love with it but then as time went on it became very crowded especially on the weekends. Very surprising to me that you weren't a bit more successful with catching at least one or two big ones. The regs require release of all fish under 20 inches and usually you're gonna hook at least a couple fish in the upper teens. Another interesting thing about the S Fork is the Fish and Game doesn't stock it, all the Rainbows for the most part are wild fish except for anything that might swim upstream from Arrowrock. I'm with you in that the weather likely was a factor but hope you'll give it another try in the future. If you return and you want to have a shot at possibly hooking a monster sized fish you could consider fishing much closer to the dam. Some of the largest fish hang within a short distance from the dam and primarily feed on chunks of fish that get caught in the dams turbines and the pieces float down river. Tie on a very big streamer like a white Zonker and concentrate on areas where you can still see the dam in the background while you're fishing. Another characteristic of that river is many times the bigger fish feed in the riffles where the water is between ankle and knee deep.

Thanks for the information and the education. I appreciate you taking the time to write this. I’ll be back, I’m in the area usually 3-6 months out of the year mostly in the colder months but I won’t let that stop me. I know the area you speaking of, I’ve driven past it many times and thought it looks good and wondered if it would hold bigger fish. If I’m able to get back there before it gets too cold I’ll give it a shot and give you a shout out, maybe without saying where I am exactly, but I’m sure you’ll recognize it. Thanks again, take care.

Nymphing with no indicator? That's how I roll, all feel and watching the line. Indicators can help control the depth of the fly though.
@onebadshad
@onebadshad 11 ай бұрын
Some times I’ll use an indicator if I’m in situations where I’m casting over several runs, down stream, or a situation where I can lead my line or see it. Then I’m with you it helps control depth. Good to hear someone else is keeping the old ways alive.

@@onebadshad Yeah I like no indicator on more shallow rivers like the Madison here in Montana. Have you tried euronymphing? Like how the indicator is built into the line and how the fly and line sink faster.
@onebadshad
@onebadshad 10 ай бұрын
I've never used a line specifically designed for this method, but I always choose a bright color floating line so I can use that as an indicator. I don't have anyone in my circle that euronymphs, I would benefit from learning from someone who does. From what I do know about it, it's hard to beat it for numbers of fish. I've seen some who use this method in tournaments that post catches in the 70's for one day totals.@@kennethsilvestri5874
