Hi Matthew, another great video from Taipei. That Sweet potato cake looked pretty amazing. I don't think I have ever had a Purple colored Sweet potato. The inside creamed potato looked so purple that it looked like they colored it with food dye. It was a nice color of purple so hopefully it was natural.

I think it was natural. But I'm always up for trying something I've not had before!

I would never have thought of Taiwan as a destination, thanks for taking us there. Loved the purple potato goop extrusion moment. Not enough cats and dogs for my liking though :)

That was my thinking, I was hoping to go somewhere that people wouldn't expect. And just wait, there are a lot of cats coming!

How are you enjoying being the tallest person in every place you go this trip? I've not seen a milk carton like that for many a year, but absolutely grew up with them being the norm back in the 80's/90's

My dad and his brother started getting abalone off the Northern California coast in the late 60's. Eventually it turned into an annual camping trip incorporating friends and family until they banned recreational ab fishing in 2017 for environmental reasons. Pretty much the only sea creature I enjoy eating.

I remember it being really really good grilled on a BBQ.

They probably don't add much sugar to the treats (compared to something like pumpkin pie, which has tons). I've had plain purple sweet potato and I think it's a little more sweet than normal sweet potato, but also drier.

They say that Purple sweet potato has a little winey taste. Did you find that true?
@ambierona Жыл бұрын
@@benburns5995 I haven't noticed any winey taste. But I also don't drink wine much so I may not know what a winey taste would be 😅

Happy watching this walkthrough. I recognize a lot of similarities with certain streets and building façades in Manila (granted many of those were actually put up by Chinese immigrants back in the day)

Well, I'm hoping to see for myself, Manila is my next stop!

I remember visiting China, ooh, a very long time ago, and seeing a pharmacists which had a back wall of wooden draws which I’m pretty sure held ‘medicinal’ and likely illegal animal parts, yes, including tiger penis. I settled for the tiger balm (my hypocrisy has limits…) in the end. Loving the videos!
@YesLandTravel Жыл бұрын
But Tiger Balm is pretty wonderful in fairness.

I'm really unsure and a bit lazy, but I think I remember my Dad bringing back an abalone shell from mobile when he was stationed there. I have believed that they do a trade there in the gulf... maybe. Sugar milk... do you know how long it has been since I have had a glass... carton... of milk? Let's say 20 years. Back in the day we always drank our milk from a carton that opened like this and ate our icecream with flat wooden spoons that tasted terrible, had splinters, and often split down the middle... give me a pushup, please! I like those tubes of orange sherbet.
@YesLandTravel Жыл бұрын
Well it's no Jennys Ice cream in Nashville that's for sure.

See if you can find a pineapple cake! My family would always request those whenever friends would go to Taiwan. They're a little dry for me but tasty.

It's nice to see the place is still thriving without all the yucky aspects. I'd take a bit touristy over the alternative any day. My heart just can't handle it.
