They might serve a purpose, but should be monitored closely. As I do with the mink on my property. They seem to not disturb the balance, but improve it. But as a principle, introducing non native species in an environment is very risky business for the local wildlife. Non fore seen impacts are common.

When I bought my property ten years ago it had a three acre pond on it that had a ton of turtles in it. The pond had been there twenty years prior with no issues at all. I killed them out in a matter of a couple of months. After that, underwater grass took over and I’ve been fighting it ever since. I firmly believe that the turtles crawling around on the bottom kept it at bay. If I had it to do over again I wouldn’t kill the first one of them.

They can make a filter with the charcoal from burnt wood in the bottom of a bucket with small holes in it and sand on top of it then some straw or dry grass on top of that. It might not look completely clean but after boling itll be safe enough for the animals and people to drink. Also if the water heater in the house is a tank they can get water from it out of the spigot on it. I hope this helps some. Sending my love! I donated on anotther video. Ill send more when i can

Painted Turtles and Red Eared Sliders in large numbers in small ponds are actually more damaging than the snapping turtles. Not only do they eat a lot more food pound for pound, but they also make their nests closer to the water, causing more erosion and in warmer areas sometimes breeding multiple times each year, increasing the damage to the surrounding areas, as well as digging multiple false nests before actually laying their eggs.
@Sodonewithchaos2 ай бұрын
They will eat all the fish eggs if buddy is trying to stock his pond
@davidharris4532 ай бұрын
Got any scientific data to back up what you are saying....of course you dont because any studies that have been done find the opposite. Turtles for the most part scavenge the dead and dying thereby improving the health of the pond by protecting it from disease. Their activities improve the fertility of the pond from pruning overflowing water plants to distributing seeds (notice how their diets revolve around plants more than meat) right through to their poop providing fertilizer. Fish eat alot more baby turtles ever year than turtles eat healthy fish. And who stocks their ponds with fish eggs anyway....most people use fingerlings or bigger. And the biggest eroder of pond banks is human activities, most turtle nests are made far from pond banks....up to a mile or more for many species...to avoid the threat of flooding, reduce predation from pond hunters and presumably prevent too much inbreeding. Finally, most people are thrilled by herons and such in their ponds and all they eat are fish of all sizes...and of course baby turtles. So maybe as has been proven a million times removing an apex species from a given habitat, be they predator, omnivore or otherwise is never a good idea.

Take a 55 gallon drum and put it in water about four inches lower than the top of the drum. Weight the bottom of the drum with enough dirt or rocks to keep it anchored. Take a 2x6 that is 4 to 5 feet long and attach it to the lip of the drum with a hinge so the board will pivot. Allow about 18 inches of the board to over hang the drum. Turtles will walk up the board to sun and then will tip over into the drum. Empty drum as needed.

He might just not have the time set to the right time on his trail cams. I don’t on a lot of mine because why would I. And also his scope cam is the right time so yeah.

Dude, that means nothing. A lot of the time when we set our trail cams we don't even change the year.

Just a thought. I once bult a fish trap along the lines of a doubled Funneled type of minnow trap. I placed it in railroad drainage ditch, for whatever i could catch. Upon my FIRST CHECK using fish-based Cat food as bait, I had 38 turtles mostly painted with several Musk.

22:00 the doors are down, Need better floats. Something pushed them down maybe the grass maybe the turtles and then the angle they were at got stuck. I know this is all pretty obvious, but the solution is better floats.
