For those saying that SK is not just ready for that kind of song at that time, think again. Jiyoon was still a minor when JYP made her record Adult Ceremony. A song that's about a girl finally loosing her virginity to an older guy ( whom she is seeing around for years as a minor ) when she finally turn into an adult. Yes it's about grooming. Also this video doesn't cover enough all the harassment and indecent proposals she got as an 18 year old which is by the way not the considered legal adult age in SK.
@GrizzlyNextDoor2 жыл бұрын
Actually she was not a minor. She was 19 korean age which made her legally an idol. JYP still shouldn't have published that song. She was barely an adult and wasn't protected by JYP.

@ivy_tae2 жыл бұрын
It's not about Adult Ceremony being "raunchy" but more about it being problematic. JYP used a hardly adult Jiyoon to fetishize an unacceptable relationship. The whole song talks about a girl who has been dating a much older man for a while, but they couldn't have sex because she wasn't 18 yet. But now she's 18 and she can finally lose her virginity, aka grooming. The public wasn't wrong to feel disgusted but like always, they attacked the wrong person. Instead of throwing stones at Jiyoon who is the victim here, they should have questioned JYP and the company heads for forcing such a disgusting concept on a young girl. The performance has never been an issue for me but it's the implied message that disgusts me. And to think that poor Jiyoon had no idea what the song meant when she sang it... gross.

And despite not speaking fluent Korean, I fell in love with her singing -- and she was the reason I initially became interested in K-pop. Glad RM has her in his upcoming INDIGO 🌷 Sexual expression is not a concept. It is a part of your identity. The trouble with "kpop" is that everything is reduced to a concept. I found it very odd when I first came across kpop. As if artistic expressions is superimposed from the outside, instead of driven out from the inside.
@jaydabomb25102 жыл бұрын
I don’t know. I think it’s cool to have a concept. Then it helps with creating something instead of putting stuff together and calling it a day. Now, that being said, there is some weird concepts that k-pop has made and I raise and eyebrow. Having a certain concept for an album isn’t a bad thing. Some k-pop groups actually make it work and I’m always interested on what theme is next. For me, I like to have an idea on what I’m doing so I can go from there. If you’re the person that just wants to be random and do it that way, them that’s cool too. 😊
@HailToTheMeep2 жыл бұрын
@@jaydabomb2510 No I don’t mean unstructured and random and without direction. But the idea of concept in kpop is externally directed. The artists only performs the given direction like a good worker only doing where instructed with little input. Sexual expression is VERY PERSONAL, it should INTERNALLY DRIVEN. Making it a financial strategy like the kpop concept is reducing it to something smaller. That’s what I am saying. Nothing to do with being random and spontaneous.
@miraagenvine99142 жыл бұрын
Omg I love how you describe it as superimposed from the outside instead of driven from the inside, that perfectly puts into words something that I've always noticed too. This especially bugs me about the idea of a "dark concept" because it reduces heavy themes to just an aesthetic. As Army myself, this is why I don't like when people beg for dark concepts from bts, because for them it isn't just a concept, but a real expression of painful experiences that they've had. I feel like this particular kpop mentality just takes away so much agency from the artist.
@HailToTheMeep2 жыл бұрын
@@miraagenvine9914 The first reply to my original post makes me think that concept is focused on the consumer. Kpop has been known to focus on providing consumers and fans services. They are probably not respected as musicians or performing artists by the world at large because is this. Nothing they do is for art. Everything is a form of service disguised as art. So a lot of music lovers and performance art lovers look down on “idols”. I hope kpop will continue to be forced to change for the better. Especially in labour law and protection from abuses and being treated like workers at the bottom of the company. Instead of the talented people that they are.

I think it's extremely easy for young women in the entertainment industry to be groomed into these concepts under the context of " freedom " and " empowerment ". I'm not trying to shame wanting to express your sexuality, but the song isn't really made from the perspective of a woman who feels ready to explore this side of her now that she's able to, but from a sick male perspective who was just waiting for her to turn 18 so he can finally have his way with her. I guess it's extremely easy at that age to not pay attention to these creepy undertones and sing the song while thinking it represents something mature that should make you feel empowered and proud. Maybe she thought it's was a "spicy " love song which will present her in a more mature way than how her older concepts were.

I think the main thing that happened here was the obvious influence of black culture and entertainment on the K-pop industry now and even back then (idc what nobody has to say) bc even the album name speaks for itself. this is strikingly similar to what aaliyah went through and even jiyoon’s aesthetic that they made her switch too, also hence “age ain’t nothing but a number” is a song by Aaliyah. It makes sense that they’d give her such a concept after looking at what’s going on elsewhere, especially given that JYP is a know culture vulture. It also makes me mad that they got angry at a 18yo for singing such a song but didn’t question the writers themselves and jyp, it clearly had to have been their own personal fantasies, bc who just thinks of something like that when they wanna write a song.

this is the song that introduced me to K pop, I'm so glad she took the bull by the horns, but I think her company should have protected her more.

JYP and Jype will never change, they don't protect their artists. Not back then, not now, not ever... I understand why SM protected BoA so much... Edit: and BoA was a dance machine, this choreo isn't "tamed" for the time and S. Korea standards but seriously she is dancing like a robot. BoA would eat her up. Thank god for SM....

SM isn't any better than JYP or any other company, considering that they hired a known pedophile aka Min Heejin (the CEO and founder of ADOR under HYBE) and allowed her to oversexualize Shinee, mainly Taemin, when they were still underage as well as Yeri and NCT Dream. The company also forced Taemin to have a feminine image and profited off of it even though he was tired of everyone only seeing him that way.

SM has their handful of issues too they’re not much better 😬 they also debuted minors too. we don’t know everything BoA went through

" With chocolate chips, you know I wanna sprinkle all over And ruin your appetite Yeah I’m hiding but I really wanna see your face" this is the english translation of New Jeans Cookie along with " Take it don't break it I wanna see you taste it" now see the difference of how people act in the past where in now they defend this song as Making a CD. In which timeline and mindset if you hear. " take it don't break it I wanna see you taste" goes directly on they're singing about making a CD.

I honestly felt that the she looked soulless and the choreography felt kinda awkward. Finding out the real story behind the song made everything sense.

Its so odd though knowing just how popular this raunchy song is with a certain age-group, about late high school through late 20s, and how crazy fans go when someone is covering it. And I've seen both guys and girls cover it...I think its ok to perform if we make sure no minors are around. 17/18...technically they shouldn't be viewing such contents but let's be honest, they already see it/know about it.

Goodness I did not know how young she was when she debuted and that she was still just a minor performing such a mature adult concept. I find it concerning how mature she was made to look/appear even early on in her career as a model and how quickly she had to grow up and this is all still going on in 4th gen Kpop today and this is why I'm concerned about new jeans.... they are basically kids working around adults and being expected to live as adults too that in itself is scary because their age makes them even more vulnerable and unknowledged about the world and easy to be preyed on.Something doesn't feel right about putting kids into the the grown up world of the showbiz industry. I just don't think it's right for the parents to entrust their kids into the hands of strangers....

Very sus that everyone knew her parents and her in the church but still decided to play it in the church in front of everyone as a bad example.... Wow

JYP literally be using his artists cause of his generational trauma of being rejected by SM and taking advantage of those young kids that's disgusting

One thing that has me confused is you say she had a cute image until she went to jyp and released adult ceremony but you also said she released something called "age is nothing but a number" which is a phrase used to sexualize young people so I'm kind of confused how she could release something under that title but it's still a 180 when she goes to jyp??

3:25 Naming an album "Age is nothing but a number" always brings bad luck to female singers as it means that their sexuality is being exploited when they are too young for it
@almaofearthia6785 Жыл бұрын
There's so much pedophilia promotion coming out of the entertainment industry these days that I do think that young singers should not be singing this song.

It's seen that she an amazing singer but I haven't heard any songs of her but when she became more popular with one song but after that become an issue. Her parents become kinda embarrassed in a way when a priest of their church shoe that video and people look at them on a way and haven't talked with her even though they were supported her at first in the beginning

sexy Concept its self in Korea & Japan is kinda broken, why? The girl group member must be ready in age and mentality nature, The problem is Korea & Japan its opposite regarding Age.

I really don't understand SK concept. they getting uncomfortable with song while they having a industry of adult films and also having scenes in a movie and especially in daily soap. if they really don't want this kind of stuff in entertainment, they should critic all of this too. why only band k pop songs where they can ban movies or dramas then. when there is limitation, do limit all equally, not partially. it just entertainment and should see this all as entertainment too. if don't want then please don't blame the artist, blame the company in this case. Rational are really lack at SK. Hope justice always win there too. I'm glad Park Ji Yoon is happy with her life now. ps: it just my opinion, i really love SK, it just feel so sad and feel so so bad for the people who suffered for not so their fault. Peace.

Maybe if she knows what it meant before singing it, would've been better. I think JYP should've given it to an older idol.

Britney spears was 16 when she released hit me baby one more time and filmed that music video. Jyp has a history of being raunchy, for a time its what he was known for his shows where women were essentially doing a burlesque strip tease. While some of it might be his own fantasies I feel a lot of that was because he felt he was being edgy and wanted to be like madonna. He gave this song to her because being risqué worked for him. Those transparent pants he's known for were worn for a reason. Times change, people change, I don't feel this is something he'd give to any of the girls in jyp now.
