This video is part of my vlog. It is not a stand alone video. It was put together by popular request in the comments by the subscribers for those interested and would like a little insight to what brought me to where I am now. Nothing more! It is not intended for ego, self praise or to brag. It is not an instruction video or a how to video. Everything I say is in answer to questions and I don’t claim to be a builder or have all or any answers. Professionals were used to do the important stuff. I’m just enjoying my journey. It’s a bit of fun looking back.

The first video I watched on your channel was the 90 min edition of the house in the Village. So, that was your fourth? Every single one was brilliant. I can’t wait to see what your home will look like when it is completed. For someone who says they didn’t know what they were doing, well, it is simply extraordinary. It must give you such personal satisfaction, and sense of accomplishment. And, all the while, you have been acclimating to a different country, language, and way of life with such a positive attitude and a smile always on your face. It takes more to fix these beautiful houses up than to knock down and start over. You're keeping a part of history and surely the character of the original even if your add your own things here and there. And then that puts in a lot of your character, too. I'm glad you didn't go into pricing and such; that's only your business, anyway. I love your work; I just love, love, love your work.

I was struggling in my housing situation at the time your back wall at the last house was needing to be reinforced and I stopped watching because I couldnt watch someone else having a hard time. Just jumped back in with your latest vid.on pouring a concrete floor--it gives me confidence that I could do work like that. Even tho my mom doesnt believe I can use tools. Thank you. What an amazing man you are. I have listened to so many people that say I want to buy a old house and fix it up. They really have no idea how much work heart and soul it takes. Plus the design mistake you can make along the way and end up with a common nice new build. It take someone like you that gives us a true treasure, that will appreciate in years to a wonderful home that is comfortable, but has the design concepts that are priceless. Bravo!

Oh wow...I loved that 2nd house, but I still have to see #3. You did a fantastic job on #1, which turned out lovely. I love open spaces outside and courtyards. Outdoor living areas are quite nice with a fireplace and seated shaded areas for those hot summers.

What a wonderful video, I moved out to Spain and rebuilt my house from the inside out, I could not alter the outside as it was protected, and I have some real challenges with that, but I got what I wanted, and because of the challenges I joined the local Political Party and withing 18 months the party got voted into the Town Hall, and now I was a Councillor, what a turn-up for the books but I enjoyed working there for the next five years. I am well and truly retired and into my late 60's and back in the UK, I miss Spain, but keeping an eye on the Portugal situation.

Hello again Andrew. 😊 I believe this is my 4th video of yours I have seen in the last 2 nights. I am wondering if you have any memories of your past life journey's being a builder of say Noah's Arch or building the Parthenon or the Coliseum or the Great Pyramid's? My absolute favorite is house number one. I LOVE the outdoor living spaces, the interesting architecture and the way these came out and everything else, makes it my favorite. i like how you modernised the first house without erasing its character! whenever i see old buildings getting demolished so a new, modern, concrete minecraft house can be built in its place i get quite sad.

Great work. Really looks nice. I did one in Canarias. Covid set us back a couple of years, but now it's "finished". Just in time too. Now labour and materials are in short supply, not to mention material costs have doubled and in some cases trippled. Even the large DIY stores are blowing their delivery dates. Buy from current stock only. We had to wait nearly a year for the roofing contractor to get on to our site. If anyone is thinking of doing this now, think it through all the way. Add 50% contingency cost and at least double your time estimate. The challenge is at level 10 these days.

All these Portuguese rural living series remind me sm of childhood in rural brasil, there’s sm old run down rural properties from colonial times everywhere. there’s sm potential on them I’ve seen over time some have actually gotten remodeled and turned out pretty good. Other not sm like at my uncles roça where the original colonial farmhouse has been turned into a stable & they build a new house in a new location instead sadly
