My approach was different but came to the same conclusion Basic sudoku rules on one's. Then completed the outer rings( columns and rows). Found a skyscraper on 2's, eliminated a 2 in column 4. 23 pair in c1r2 together with 9's created 239 candidates in r3c8 and r3c7. Mind you 2 and 3 were given block 2. That enabled me to place a 5 in r3c5. Used the same approach to place 245 as candidates for row7 in columns 2 and 3 and that enabled me to place a 3 in r7c5, then normal sudoku rules to completion of the puzzle... 6 minutes..

Just l went for sue de coq strategy, i saw your vedio and Swamy's vedio l understand only elimination in row and box that BVC of rows eliminates rows and BVC of box eliminates in box. I searched puzzle and l got this puzzle and tried. Only 1s l got, after filled no's in all cells, l got in box 8,9 -- 4567 in four cels r7c6- 67 and r8c9- 45., only this one strategy l used total puzzle solved. After l saw your vedio you got two SDC strategy one more in box 1 and 2, that is very nice, l found in 8,9 boxes SDC is enough to solve. You showed another SDC nice to learners. Thanks for puzzle and explanation.

I am so glad to hear that SDC is not an easy or common strategy to learn, so I try to feature these whenever I can. Thank you for the comment. Great job!

Amazing technique and one that is more understandable than many of the advanced strategies you share Timberlake. Have a great weekend!

@@SmartHobbies had a very tragic week Timberlake. My commercial Director died on Monday from a cardiac arrest aged 50 so came home from my holiday and had to support my business and so many of my team members (around 100 or so). I am flying to Edinburgh tomorrow morning to see his wife and children. He was only 50 and this has shocked so many people. Sorry to share such sad news Timberlake!

This is the type of puzzle that gives absolutely no clue as to where to go after the outside edges clearly need to be filled in and Snyder is done. The only reason I'd know to go to blocks 1&9 and rows 3&7 is because the video said to. I was stubborn and tried to solve without using those giveaways using the skyscraper, and I was surprised that the video chose to ignore it because it did give a solve in block 5 and additional BVCs that helped later to solve a 7. It appears as though the skyscraper wasn't ultimately needed to get to the final solve, but with a puzzle like this, you have to grab onto any help whatsoever to try and get the puzzle done.

I agree Brad. There is also some context given within the Sudokult Gospel itself on the type of strategies you can expect from a puzzle like this. Great job finding the skyscraper.

@@SmartHobbies maybe my writing was vague: I didn't find the skyscraper on my own, although I should have. I saw it after I clicked on the video. And I did attempt this puzzle twice over 2 days. The first day I spent a total of 73 minutes on the actual puzzle, and additional time watching the video, then just quit because it was taking too long. After that I watched the outstanding Sudoku Swami tutorial on Sue De Coq. So this morning I started the puzzle again from scratch, remembering the skyscraper and the two spots where SDC happened. I solved the puzzle in 27 minutes then.

Sorry for being late! But here I am 😊 Aaaaaa... after you explain the trick (Sue de Coq ?) I thought that it was so easy, at the same it is not! Haha Today we had a very fun puzzle! Thank you for that! 🤗

You are welcome. Glad you were able to check it out. SDC takes some getting used to. I find them a little easier to spot if I focus on the bivalue cells inside and out of the block.

I found out that R2C1 communicated with block 3 and R8C9 communicated with block 7, thus empowering the 5 and the 3. In addition, I also found out that the 2s at C1 and C9 effectively communicated about block 5.

Nice job spotting that. I like how you use the term communicate to explain the relationships between the cells and digits.

Thank you for pronouncing my last name correctly! Miu as in a cat’s meow but without the long drawn w sound. Most people would pronounce it incorrectly, not that it really matters! I just thought to mention it. Btw, I bought your manual but it turns out a bit too basic for me. Do you have something more advanced as I want to learn more techniques to tackle difficult puzzles.

I am so glad to hear I got your name right. Thank you for the feedback on the guide. I do not currently have an advanced guide, but that is a great idea. All I can offer right now are the videos on advanced tutorial playlist. I have future plans to create a well produced beginner and advanced course available on Skill Share or something similar. 😎

I clicked on the link, and was prompted to resume the puzzle, so I continued with the mess I'd made of it. I bifurcated my usual way once the grid was filled, and eventually reached the end. I'll return to the video later, sorry. 2:10 A skyscraper in 2s is visible on the vertical edges. I didn't notice it until I had filled everything out. It gave me a 2 in R5C4, in block 5. 3:00 The skyscraper limits 2 in block 4 to row 6, so block 5's 2 is placed in row 5. 5:55 You're not going to use it to place the 2? Granted, it didn't do me much good. Although it did better than the finned swordfish in 3s I found later. 8:25 I never saw the pattern even though those cells were identically filled out. But I can see the logic now. Row 3 has a 124 triple or a 134 triple, depending on R2C1's digit. I don't think that I'll spot it again, later.

Felt weird not to use the skyscraper, John. I was trying to reduce this to just the featured main strategy. Glad you found it , though.
